The hot hatch power war shows no signs of slowing. You can now buy a BMW 1 Series with 335bhp, a Ford Focus with 345bhp, or an Audi A3 with as much as 395bhp. So the new AMG-badged A-Class must be nudging 400bhp, right?
Wrong. This is the all-new Mercedes-AMG A 35 - designed not as a range flagship, but to plug a gap between the A 250 and the forthcoming A 45. It’s a VW Golf R rival developing 302bhp and 400Nm of torque.

0:42 How is 300hp not a lot of power? LOL man our perspectives have been SKEWWWWWWWWWWED in the last decade by the myriad of super cars pushing 1000hp. In competent hands 300hp is plenty.

Couldn't agree more. 8 years ago i was driving impreza stis with that power and they were the fastest thing around and now 300 is considered not much, but it is massive power , where do these idiots think you can deploy this power on public roads and how many times do use 0 to 60 times . But who buys this car , even with that power its huge money for a small hatch , most young guys couldn't afford it and older guys wouldn't be seen dead in it

Currently got a M140i and love it don’t get me wrong, but I’d love to try an AMG. They are killing it at the moment but I think I’ll wait out for the A45. BMW will always be in my heart 💓 but AMG is just great right now.
I'd say keep your m140i as long as its a manual. Alot more driver engagement, it's not all about how fast it can can go. As with every hot hatch seems to be going four wheel drive. Really the pleasure should be how fast you can drive it. Crunching gears surely thats more fun than flicking a paddle

@@robertvanzant2653 No. Only the 1.5 diesel is and the petrol in the A200 was co-developed with Renault like the old Mini had a 1.6 thp co-developed with Peugeot for BMW to use in the Mini. All other petrols and diesels are from Mercedes.
Performance on my 3 year old S3 is better. Why is Merc not throwing in a little more power ~ 350hp?
This is way faster than an s3
0-60 is 4.5 on the S3. 310hp and around similar weight. Not true.

Yep I’m on 16 plates and it’s almost 2019! What I was saying was that Merc should’ve beefed the car up a tad bit more

George Minnit neither is low end Mercedes. Benz Build quality is highly undesirable up until the longer wheelbase cars allow for an uprated cabin. They both make commuter cars and work vans so..

George Minnit depends which Mercedes. Both brands have been around a long time and produced a lot of different vehicles. I think in most peoples mind a luxury vehicle brand specifically produces luxury vehicles. So Porsche, Maserati, Jaguar would all fit that bracket at an entry level with exotic brands such as Ferrari higher up. VW and Mercedes both make some incredulity luxurious cars, and even lower down in their history have both made iconic small cars too. But even audi and bmw dont make vans, although bmw make bikes, so this all goes to show that its to some extent in the eye of the beholder. Personally if I was going to spend 20k and a key qualifier was luxury then from past experience I know exactly what to expect from high end VW’s whereas with Mercedes the build quality very much varies from model to model. Recent c class interiors have been awful in comparison to a Passat or the relative audi, bmw or jaguar cars. Mercedes survive on their image and that ability to lease vehicles in epic numbers. Merc are no better nor worse overall than ford nowadays. Price wise ford are much lower but the quality of the vehicles is very similar. Personally I feel audi bmw and VW are on the next step up. With jag falling a bit below VW for build quality but above ford for luxury and overall feel. Dont forget theres one thing the materials feeling luxurious but not so great when cheap parts reveal themselves and Mercedes is the number one culprit for making something look higher quality than it is; in its lower spec models that is.

There's nothing exciting about this car NOTHING WHATSOEVER! The exterior is boring, the interior looks awful, Mercedes design team just did an awful job, look at the S-class, the long screen is completely integrated into the dash, while on this A-class it looks like an after thought, yay we've got this beautiful long screen but can't be bothered to design it, so just stick the screen on half sticking out (just like the previous A45 screen). This is just a A250 with the exact same engine, but give it an tune, stick an AMG badge on it, grab a few parts from the OLD A45, put a new shell on it, and here you go Merc fans, buy the A35 AMG.
It's pure laziness from Mercedes... just stick an AMG badge on everything and hope people buy their cars... C43 "AMG" and now A35 "AMG", at least at BMW, when they stick M badges on their lower variant cars, they make it known it's M performance/M lite instead of a true ///M car, there's a differentiation, AMG is just purely diluting their AMG brand.
