Raga Jhinjhoti | Ashwini Bhide Deshpande (Album: Swar utsav)

This interpretation of Raga Jhinjhoti brings together two accomplished musicians -- Ashwini Bhide-Deshpande and Biswajeet Roy Chowdhury - in a jugalbandi from Streams of Confluence, compiled from a live performance at Swar Utsav 2001. Ashwini Bhide-Desphande started her early classical training under the guidance of Narayanrao Datar and went on to complete her Sangeet Visharad from the Gandharva Mahavidyalaya. Since then, Dr. Bhide-Deshpande has been under the tutelage of her mother Manik Bhide, getting trained in the intricacies and traditions of the Jaipur-Atrauli Gharana. Dr. Bhide-Deshpande also received guidance from Pt. Ratnakar Pai. An accomplished sarod player, Biswajeet Roy Chowdhury was initiated into music by his father Ranajit Roy Chowdhury. Later, he was spotted by Maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and accepted by him as a disciple. Pandit Mallikarjun Mansur also mentored the young Biswajeet Roy Chowdhury and the guru and student formed a lasting bond. He is perhaps the only Sarod player who plays the coveted compositions from the Jaipur-Atrauli tradition and has performed in various locations all over India and participated in prestigious concerts.
