In my opinion, that was a great show. Both of you learned soo much that day about each other and became closer since both of you had to trust each other.
Side Note: At least you didnât lose a tooth, rip your pants and completely break a jump and had to pay for it... thatâs how my first show went

Iâm so glad that you didnât yank on her mouth or whipped her after she refused, a lot of people do that but mostly at the higher levels. But you handled everything so good! Great jobđ
I completely agree! Especially since holly is so young. It makes showing a bad experience when they are punished like that!

You did an amazing job, a first show for a horse can be a bit stressful and overwhelming, also maybe the whistles were spooking her, but you handled her great! If my horse refused like that I most likely would've fallen off, great core. I am so glad you didn't give up, because Im sure a lot of us would've just called it quits, and Im so glad you didn't do that

I laughed so hard at how during your last round you just kept riding đ. You handled everything so well and I feel like being able to stay calm and pat your horse after a show like this is a lot more important than getting a few ribbons. Happy holidays everyone!
I think this was a great first jumping show with a horse that was skin and bones just about 3 years ago! Great job for handling it all very well. Great job, I just got a horse yesterday and I think that trying your best to work with a very skinny horse and only 3 years later is doing a show! Amazing job!

19:41, its ok my trainer always tells me even if u think you got disqualified or know your disqualified. Keep going until they blow you out in the power and speeds, because sometimes they don't see it, and if they do see it, sometimes they let you continue just so you have the chance to have fun jumping around.
Oh my goodness I did a show there too! I absolutely love that facility! Btw the name of the barn is Haras Hacienda in case you ever decide to do a show there...
A couple months ago i went to a show and did not even get to compete bc the pony i was riding was stressed so much he bucked me off five times and i knew he was. I have been riding him since I was six and we both love each other. I was so upset i did not compete. But the truth is the more oddball we are and the more we fall off the more we get back on and do it again. For any new riders if you ever fall off get back on and breathe, stay calm and try again learn from your mistakes and laugh. Love on your horse bulid a bond together a horse and rider can make a great team.

Aww it happens! I did my first beginner novice trial this year with my mare and we got disqualified on the 5th stadium fence.đ Weâre always learning and all that matters is that you love your horse and never give upđ„°

I started my fifth year of showing back in September and also competed in ranch riding for the first time. Before that, I only showed in western horsemanship, but now I also do ranch.
And one of the things I learned is that staying positive and learning from your mistakes in the show pen is what makes riders successful. I've had plenty of bad rides, and looking back at what I did wrong allows me to correct those mistakes in practice.
Another thing about showing is that we all have "off days," where things just aren't going how we want them to. One thing that's helped me is remembering that we're not always perfect, and neither are our horses. There's this reiner I ride. His name is Playboy. He gets antsy in patterns and anticipates maneuvers. Some days he's really good and I can run through a pattern on a loose rein, and sometimes he's really antsy and tries to rush through the pattern and won't listen to me. And although it can be frustrating when Playboy does that, I never get too upset over it because I know that's just how he is. It also gives me the opportunity to learn how to handle a horse that gets antsy in patterns.
And I've had off days too. At my first show of the season, I completely messed my ranch riding and horsemanship patterns. I'd drawn horses that could do the patterns easily, but I wasn't in the right mindset. I wasn't prepared when I went into the ring to do my patterns.
That brings me to another note. Mentally preparing yourself is one of the best things you can do before showing. Walk through how you're going to lay out you pattern with your coach, think about what you'll do when the judge tells to lope off, etc. This is SO important and has helped me sooooo much!
But I think you handled what happened really well! You didn't blame your horse, and I know a lot of people would have. You stayed positive and learned from what happened. I can't wait to see what you and Holly accomplish in the future!

I am proud of you for telling her good job after she didnât jump it the way you wanted. Thatâs a good rider. I think thatâs what gave her more confidence to go over the other ones even though she wasnât perfect. Good job. Youâll have ups and youâll have downs but you got through it with a positive attitude and being there for her the whole way without losing patience. Good job Justine.

Aw, I'm sorry Justine! I'm sure Holly picked up on any of your stress or nervousness combined with the new environment and was just like, "I have forgotten everything." And if your heart rate was higher than it usually is while your schooling, horses can feel your heart rate, and if it is beating faster than usual they feel nervous. Overall, you did AWESOMELY and I think you handled her refusals, clips, and the pressure REALLY well! Great job, and a great learning experience for both you and Holly!

Justine, you really shouldnât worry about your first show not being perfect; at my first show with my pony, (weâre eventers by the way) my pony jumped out of the dressage arena and we got eliminated đ” And that was at the lowest level. But now weâre doing Beginner Novice which is 2 foot 6 inches... you and Holly will definitely get there đ Also, youâre my biggest inspiration I love your channel so much (by the way, I hate to be that person, but would you mind checking out my CZcams channel? It would mean the world to me)!
