Karla Camila Cabello Estrabao (/kəˈbeɪoʊ/; born March 3, 1997),[1][2] better known as Camila Cabello, is a Cuban-born American singer and songwriter. As part of the girl group Fifth Harmony, Cabello and her bandmates released one EP and two studio albums. Her departure from the group was announced in December 2016. As a lead artist, Cabello has released two singles which reached the top 20 on the US Billboard Hot 100: "I Know What You Did Last Summer" with Shawn Mendes and "Bad Things" with Machine Gun Kelly.
2012-2016: The X Factor and Fifth Harmony
Camila Cabello auditioned for The X Factor in Greensboro, North Carolina.[5] After elimination during the "bootcamp" portion of the process, Cabello was called back to the stage along with four other female contestants to form the girl group that would later become known as Fifth Harmony. They signed a joint deal with Syco Music, owned by Simon Cowell, and Epic Records, L.A. Reid's record label, after finishing in third place on the show.[6][7]
The group released the EP Better Together (2013) along with the albums Reflection (2015) and 7/27 (2016).[8] From 2013 through the end of 2016, Cabello performed in various Fifth Harmony tours.
On December 18, 2016, the group announced Cabello's departure.[9][10][11] She appeared in a previously taped performance with the group on Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve.[12]
2016-present: Solo career
In November 2015, Cabello released a duet with Canadian singer Shawn Mendes titled "I Know What You Did Last Summer",[13] a song they wrote together.[14] The song charted at number 20 in the US and 18 in Canada.[15] It was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).[16] On October 14, 2016, Cabello released a joint single with American rapper Machine Gun Kelly called "Bad Things",[17] which has reached a peak of number four on the US Billboard Hot 100.[18] Cabello was included on Time's "The 25 Most Influential Teens of 2016" list.[19]
On January 25, 2017, "Love Incredible", a collaboration with Norwegian DJ Cashmere Cat leaked online.[20] The official version of the song was released on 16 February 2017.[21] It is set to be released on Cashmere Cat's upcoming album, Wild Love.
Cabello is featured in "Hey Ma", a collaboration with Pitbull and J Balvin for The Fate of the Furious: The Album. The "Hey Ma" (Spanish Version) single and music video were released on March 10, 2017.[22]
