    This is good info, especially about playing catch. My son is 10, plays travel ball in Southern California, and was just rated the #2 pitcher at the PG world series here. Other parents ask me all the time who his pitching coach is. I tell them the truth, he doesn't have a pitching coach and we never practice pitching. We practice throwing. We throw around the horn from each IF position to first base. We do OF throws, we work on different arm circles for each position but we never throw off a mound and he only throws fastballs with the occasional changeup. Parents are very surprised, but I tell them that at 10 years old pitching is just playing catch from 46 feet over and over again. He pitched 21 outs with no walks. He does throw hard and he's small but I think It's because of efficient arm action rather than trying to "pitch" fast.
    Keep up the good youth baseball content!

    Well said Coach. I see it on the travel scene all the time. Kids chasing velo with zero control. Dads with their pocket radars out at the game. Well my son hit 85 on the gun today. Great but he walked 5 guys in 2 innings of work smh. So glad you said to work on a change-up as well. Most kids don't want to give that pitch the time of day. It's velo and breaking pitches they want to chase before they even reach 13U.

      @coachbeede  Před 23 dny +1

      Way too many GURUS selling snake oil to parents and injuring young arms ! Fastball location forces hitters to make decisions, then change ups and finally breaking ball ! Physical maturity will bring strength /velocity.

      @@coachbeede Yes sir it's an epidemic out here in Maryland. Kids have hitting coaches, pitching coaches, fielding coaches, track coaches, and strength coaches and sadly they still can't play a lick. Most of the MD travel area is filled with affluent parents, who think they can just throw all kinds of money at these "trainers" and they will build their son into a pro. Doesn't work that way. Skipping way too many steps in the process.

      @Poppi-Poppa-Socky This is 100% accurate and sad times for the sport at youth levels !

      So true my son is a 10U pitcher and seeing 10-11 yr old kids in Perfect Game tournaments throwing curve balls is a such a disgrace on the coaches! Protect the kids so they can make it to High School and compete

    • @coachbeede
      @coachbeede  Před 22 dny +1

      @davidmadrid8637 The issue with CB is not whether or not they will injure themselves, it is more about , 1. Can they throw the pitch for a strike , 2. Why try and fool a young hitter, why not attack a hitter , learn to get hitters to make a decision in the at bat, 3. Driving pitch counts up and “ coaches “ calling pitchers for young athletes is silly!

    Cosch Beede: just had this conversation with my boy last night after he pitched well in Hoover but of course he was freaking over velo. But hey after his two innings a Recruiter followed him on Social Media so I said you must have done something well . What i also have noticed is the dudes at 13-17 that are already throwing high 80s + are already close to 200lbs. Some are just already mature and others of course work their tail off. I love how you keep speaking about natural physical maturity. Thank you as always .

    Very well said coach! Patience and repetitions is the key which is unfortunately missing in travel ball these days.

      Thank you 🙏 for taking the time to share your thoughts. I feel that the time has come for parents to understand the value of patience and self repetitions for development. Lessons and gurus are over rated at younger ages.

    Well unfortunately its the college/professional coaches and scouts placing the priority on velo. Young players and their parents are simply adjusting accordingly. When they start signing the kid topping out at 88 but hitting all his spots, maybe then people will stop chasing velocity.

    • @coachbeede
      @coachbeede  Před 22 dny +3

      Joe, I have interviewed many coaches recently that have said “ the days of spraying and praying “ simply do not work . They are seeking athletes that compete in the zone 89-93 ! Velo gurus want you to believe coaches only seek hard throwers. The point of the video is to allow growth to occur over the 14-19 yr old seasons, find a good strength program and learn to throw strikes and decelerate.

    Thoughts on younger players (8-12) using J bands?

    • @coachbeede
      @coachbeede  Před 20 dny +1

      I think younger players at those ages benefit more from playing consistent catch than using the bands or balls. They are still in growth mode and if they focus on competitive catch play, moving their feet, centering the ball to their chest , transferring out of glove and into their throwing hand , that is MUCH more beneficial than band work. Band work at 14-older 👍⚾️
