How I Got Into Ted Greene and What I've Learned

what he helped me with in terms of understanding the neck and chords.
This is just my perspective and might not fit for everyone, but I hope that
there is something you can take from this.

I bought Teds book "Chord Chemistry" when it first came out. A deep dive into an endless stream of chord options. Ted is truly a giant in the world of guitar.

Ted is what I like to call a Whale of the guitar world: many novice players don’t know him above the surface…but when advancing players dive deeper, they can discover a massive amount of information.

I got a Telecaster because of Ted. I managed to grab one on sale at Guitar Center for $699 about 2 years ago and I love it. I have been a little lazy learning his stuff but I do have 2 of his chord workout books. So many combinations. I wish I had a copy when I was in 7th grade jazz band

I have his one and only album and his book (which I haven't really dug into yet). He was an amazing guitar player! I saw a video on YT a couple of years ago of him playing at a wedding or some event like that and nobody was paying attention to him. I hope he at least got paid well!
This is really awesome information. I'm just starting out with cords. I see a lot of folk talk about learning the bar cords, and when they're doing the other videos, they don't use them. I like how this exercise almost seems to free you up.

Great video! I must have watched that Db section of someday my prince will come about a thousand times till learned it. Great stuff! Just a question: I spent quite some time with Chord Chemistry but stopped about halfway as many sounds were repetitive… anyone else had the same experience?
Thank you for your comment. Unfortunately, I don't have "Chord Chemistry." The book I have is "Modern Chord Progressions," which covers various chord progressions with plenty of examples, lovely voice leading, and melodic lines to connect them. This is the book I like the most. There are a lot of options and chord progression examples, and sometimes they may seem repetitive. However, I believe he wanted to include as many examples as possible so that players have every possible option in most musical situations, and this might be the case with "Chord Chemistry" as well.
Hopefully, this comment offers some assistance, though I acknowledge there's a chance I may be mistaken. Please don't regard it as absolute truth 😅

Can you please explain what the rest of the numbers in your inversion grid system represent?
Yes, I didn't mention the other numbers because some are wrong. The numbers on the top and bottom left in the square represent the closest chord inversions on the low E string and the D string. However, I will make another video with the correct inversions 😊
he plays nine positions for that C inversion; you can come up to at least 11 for that inversion;

I've listened to Ted Green a lot over the past decade or so; cool how he's popping up everywhere; Jacob Collier also mentions him as a big inspiration
you talk slow and unengaging. its hard to learn when listening is worse than reading a textbook, which is a shame because these are good lessons and insights with great clips and playing. hoping future viewers have it in them to power through
Yes, I agree with you. I don't speak English very often since it isn't my first language, so I tend to focus more on speaking correctly. However, this can make me sound very robotic and unengaging. I will try to be more engaging in my upcoming videos. Thank you for the feedback. 😊
