  • On a new Check, Please! Bay Area: Tucked along San Bruno’s El Camino Real, Diamond Head General Store pays tribute to humble Hawaiian markets, bringing colorful shave ice, kalua pork and the Aloha spirit to the Bay. Then, nary a food scrap goes to waste at Shuggie’s Trash Pie + Natural Wine in San Francisco, where upcycled ingredients and sustainable proteins are in the spotlight along with seasonal pizzas and small plates at this funky, maximalist Mission spot. Finally, tucked away in downtown San Jose, the family-owned Teske’s Germania Restaurant and Beer Garden serves up hearty plates of sausage, schnitzel and spaetzle, bringing the best of Oktoberfest vibes all year long.

I disagree about the strudel at Teske's. I loved it. It was flaky golden brown and my helping had plenty of fruit in it! I go at least once a year, and it's the only time I ever drink beer, their special Oktoberfest ale. Usually I order the Sausage Combination Platte, and of course can't miss the spaetzle! But I've also tried the jaegerschnitzel and gulash, and it's all great. Honestly no other place can compare.

Teske's has been around a long time and is very popular. Glad to see them doing well.

At the German place the name of the sausage would get you a million points in Scrabble 😂

Teskes is within walking distance from my home. I need to go back. And that did not look like strudel to me.
