The Genius Of: The Weeknd

- EVERY RAPPERS FAVORITE SINGER, The Weeknd, changes how R&B is approached, vocally, lyrically, and visually. The dark and grimy tone of his early R&B Music to his recent ElectroPop hits, created memorable experiences from 2012’s Trilogy to 2020’s After Hours.
In a descriptive video essay I review The Weeknd’s discography in areas I find important, such as: marketing strategies, double song meanings, personality and much more. In this biography I compose my opinions from facts along with elements of humor and satisfaction, justifying the reasons I find him a genius.

That fan at the beginning was giving ME anxiety. It’s crazy how composed you have to be in front of screaming/demanding/rude fans or else you’re labeled as ungrateful. They are people too and they DONT owe you ANYTHING. Should they be kind and gracious, yes. But we shouldn’t badger them like that. Jeez.
Completely agree ,props to him for keeping his composure
The weeknd is such a nice humble person. I don’t really see him as a person since he’s out the spotlight but he seems like a nice guy
@@tomohawkcloud you don't really see him as a person....? And you think that's a good thing? People are so weird.
That was ridiculous like he posed for the picture a little behind her obviously because she was crazy and she was like “wtf” like girl relax
They owe something considering their support equals his success. Those entrusted, more is demanded.
Micheal Jackson said it best. _“Might be a random day for you but a once in a lifetime for the fan”_

Your take would get the celeb apologising the next day in TV for being rude.
That man gives me life. I can’t even explain the feeling I experienced when I first heard House of Balloons.
There's something about his voice. Even when he's off pitch it still sounds correct. I don't know another singer who can pull off what he can. Not even Michael.
@@daniel-eason bro he sounds great even if he's not used any autotune or even if he'd be singing it live in front of our eyes, like.... Is he an alien species? He's so talented.

The Weeknd is one of the greatest artists to emerge in the 2000's. Like.. this guy could be the next Michael Jackson. While I feel like he's not underrated, he's definitely overlooked in terms of his artistic genius.
The next MJ really?
The weeknd make some damn good music but he ain't no mj not even close look at mj his catalog that's a carreer from 40years with hits no other artist has nr 1 hits in 4 decades the guy was a child when he started

That girl who wants a picture with Abel in the beginning makes me mad because she was demanding Abel to take a picture and she was being rude. Like the crowd won't leave Abel alone and it makes me feel bad for Abel ☹

U right, she was pressing him so much :'(

@@nakeemparsons2527 he did sail past him, popularity wise and musically
@@killar1one Regardless of what you think about him and his music, Drake is a phenomenon. Drake has been consistently top charts. The weeknd has just truly reach on that level with "After hours". Not saying that he didn't have hit before but wasn't to the consistency of drake until now.

AND NOW DAWN FM WEEKND IS JUST MINDBLOWING
The Weeknd is one of the few artists today who still release theme-based albums.
Most artists today just compile songs into an album and call it a project.
Every track in a The Weeknd's project follows a theme and has an underlying link with other tracks.
His storytelling ability is absolutely astute
Twenty One Pilots been following the same theme based concept, but Abel is just different gravy and I’m glad.

What I love about The Weeknd is that he is so brutally honest about his dark side. Whereas others may continue to hide theirs. It's like he turned darkness into light through art.
This artist has to be one of the most mysteriously captivating and undeniably talented musician of this era. This whole video felt like a dead legend was being spoken about
Fr
I remember finding The Weekend a week after i graduated high school in 2011. That summer I met this girl i had no idea would ruin me. We were in "love" but it was so toxic. I never drank or did drugs in my life and she got me hooked on both. It didn't help that she was bipolar and unmedicated. The highest of highs and lowest of lows. Gaslighting me and making me feel like the shittiest person ever at times, but i still wanted to help her.
We were already in too deep and the only thing that kept me sane was getting fkd up, "partying" and listening to The Weeknd. 3 years in i come to find out she wasn't being faithful. I realized i couldn't just be a crutch for her to lean on while she battled her own demons. Took me long enough.
I spent years being reckless, emotionless and detached from forming true relationships. It took awhile for me to trust people and be one with my emotions again but his music honestly saved me. Every project he dropped helped me reflect on how much I've been through and made it out of. I've been sober for 5 years now and am with someone i can say i truly love. Thank you Abel Tesfaye
Damn, thanks for sharing, brother.
The Weeknd is an artist whose career excites me so much. Even though he's obviously already had an extremely successful last decade, something tells me that things are still just ramping up. I couldn't be happier to be on the sidelines watching him tell his story
I hate that I discovered him a bit late. But once I did I'm always keeping an eye on his next project. The man is a marketing powerhouse. He knows how to generate interest, tell a compelling story, and keep people invested in various aspects of this character he's created.
me too, but to be fair i was too young for his music when he started lol
That woman in pink is insufferable, can’t believe how Abel managed to stay so calm with her demanding a picture like that
Was just thinking that
That lady in the beginning asking for a picture was rude and annoying af
he may of admitted to be a piece of shit through his music but he's definitely made up for it. he donates to charities, he gives money away to help others, he spreads awareness for world problems and he's cut off all drugs except for weed. you were so right about character development and abel is a perfect example for that.
Shut up he isn’t a piece of shit 😂 you don’t understand his music he plays a character and sings from different perspectives

Abel is going down as a legend in music, he’s that guy.
Abel is the embodiment of a true artist, he is multi-dimensional and has the ability to touch upon every genre, he introduced alternate rnb with his dark musical touch, more than that he is reviving and modernizing 80's and 90's music! On a personal level, Abel is unlike any artist in the industry, he doesn't seek the spotlight, the spotlight seeks him as he lets his powerful music speak for itself! The most brilliant thing about him is how diverse and unpredictable his art is, you never foresee his next move, he keeps on improving with every project, he carries on in pushing the boundaries of categorization! Abel is a true artistic phenomenon

Such a sick documentary...you get goosebumps when you think about how big and connected this whole construct is
The first time I heard of The Weeknd was back in high school, 2011. I was going through a pretty rough patch, dealing with a break up... I didn't take it very well, heartbroken mainly from the realisation that people will cheat, lie and deceive you no matter how good you are and it changed me. I lost faith, fell into the night life where drugs were plentiful and fucks were not given... One night a few friends and I, parked up in an empty lot smoking weed, one of the boys asked for the aux, he said, ''Kaya, you know what song reminds me of you..." *Plays, Rolling Stone*. The chills, the smile on my face, the energy in that moment was something special. I was hooked ever since that night and I am so grateful for The Weeknd and his work. His music is not only something I could relate to but grow with. Every track was like, bro I fkn feel you, I know!!!
I feel this so much!
I’m sorry but I love how he tries to walk away from the lady in the beginning when she starts to cop an attitude🤣 0:30

Blinding lights is actually about drunk driving. He said in an interview that it's about when you are drunk but need to get to a girl to have sex and your driving at night and the city lights are blinding you. He also said he doesn't advocate doing it but that's what the songs about.
"My Dear Melancholy" I swear DONT skip tracks

“Every rap fans favourite rnb singer” damn that’s accurate
That guys so right that it's the energy of his earlier music that was so ethereal. His music really helped me during those dark days when I was really suicidal. Idk just listening to it and letting go was so nice
As a Toronto native who saw The Weeknd at the Docks back in 2012, it's still crazy to see how far he's gotten. I thought he would remain a niche player after Kiss Land came out but he really expanded into so many genres which expanded his audience and turned him into one of the world's greatest ever.
So did we all just get this recommended 3months later ?
It all makes sense now. Ambulance sound referred in blinding lights led to DAWN FM album which is story of journey to purgatory after death. Damn this is pure art.
And supposedly after hours is supposed to be a new trilogy, consisting of after hours, dawn fm, and a new project that fans think will be called “afterlife”
@@dennydarkko I hope u are right bcz I can't wait to listen .
yeah!!!..And recently he mentioned about 'us going to experience new trilogy'. This artist is indeed legend ..the amount of conceptual art and thinking he puts in his work, and the how farsighted he is about his music like creating a Trilogy in parts and still making it hit (after hours) is just amazing! It really hurts to see how humble he is about his ideas in his projects and people just practically listen to his music not idea, thoughts behind the making of his. Cause he is not one of the Artists who never exaggerates about his art concept to public and hence the behind scenes just get left until such ytbers come up.
