Joyo was just blowing up when I went to University just around the time he released Hyph Mngo. Then not long after Ellipsis started floating around as an unofficial radio rip, until it was eventually released on 12" around a year later. It was a very exciting time for an impending house revival that we got to see rising back from the underground again.
A really influencial mix from arouns that time was Joyo and Boddika's TTT Hingefinger mix. If you haven't heard it, you'll like it!
Aye unreal, i've seen him 3 times including at world headquarters in newcastle, and subclub in glasgow, where I got a fistbump off the man himself.
It was an exciting time, but I think it was so good musically because it was less bound by genre. I know post-dubstep elicits shivers amongst a lot of ppl, but there was a sense of experimentation after the decline of dubstep. Think mid 2010s, a lot of artists became a bit too constrained by house and techno format... but just my opinion
