    I started my professional activity as a neurologist trying to bring relief to my neurotic patients. Under the influence of an older friend and by my own efforts I discovered some important new facts about the unconscious in psychic life the role of instinctual urges, and so on. Out of these findings grow a new science, Psychoanalysis, a part of Psychology, and a new method of treatment of the neuroses, I had to pay heavily for this bit of good luck people did not believe in my facts and thought my theories unsavory. Resistance was strong and unrelenting. In the end I succeeded in acquiring pupils and building up an international Psychoanalytic Association. But the struggle is not yet over. My name is Sigmund Freud.

      No thanks. I'll stick with real sciences like biology, chemistry, physics, and astronomy. You see...these real sciences are based on laws, principles, ethics, and factual evidence derived from research that is not biased and can be reproduced. Psychology fails to meet any of that criteria...and that includes your hero Siggy Freud. Psychology is no better than Scientology. If only you were wise enough to understand that. How unfortunate for you. Now go push some Ritalin down the throat of some defenseless boy....you psychology flake.

      Brett Toombs Most fields of psychology work like any other science you create a hypothesis you test it and you recreate the outcome over and over. And yes while it's harder to test the field of psychotherapy ,only a small portion of psychology, due to everyone being a unique person and naturally responding to therapy in their own unique way, it doesn't change the fact that people that seek out therapy to help them over come mental disorder or even to just deal with the stresses of life, report a better outlook and mental state than before they sought help. Only a fool who doesn't really know much about science or an internet troll would completely deny all legitimacy to psychology

I would rather prefer Freud as he was more practical and factual, while Jung was more of a story-teller, myths, legends and so on. He got way too far in that fantasy world, just as Freud did with sexuality. So yes, they are both the same, extremists who promoted their own truth as universal truth.

      @Sotherys662 Před 5 lety +1

      @@pippipster6767 It's the truth of the duality (negative/positive, introversion/extroversion etc). There is duality in everything but one individual cannot achieve it during his lifetime, as one would have to be perfect.
      And as Jung said, "life calls for completeness, not perfection".
      Jung and others cannot say that Freud was wrong, as they didn't live under his skin during his whole lifetime, just as Freud cannot say that Jung was wrong. There are too many variables involved. They both lived their own truth, both truths being part of the universal truth.
      The fact that they disagreed with each other was great, as they pushed each other to discover more of their own truth and shove it on people's throats, this way helping humanity (people like me) to discover more about themselves. But in the end, they were both right.
      Even psychopaths live their own truth. And if they weren't a danger to society, we would accept them, as the universe accepts all its malformations.
      We as a people need to see things mechanically to avoid chaos. Everyone's truth is part of the universal truth.

    The animation is a travesty, but it was remarkable to hear Freud's voice. His English here is better than that of many native speakers, just as his writing is superior to most-maybe all-writing about psychoanalytic matters: clearer, better organized, instinctively more dramatic, perhaps because it mirrors his own experience.

And thats fundamentally flawed litery science.

    • @TheBlackYoshi100
      @TheBlackYoshi100 Před 5 lety +2

      Empirical data doesn't deliver proven facts either, for the statistical binary decision always retains a (somewhat, but actually pretty randomly controlled) uncertainty and scientist usually are aware of the non verifiability of scientific theories. That is not to say, that empirical data would be without any use, of course. But, e.g, you might have heard of the replication crisis of modern day psychology. Also, after decades of Freud-bashing in academic psychology, today, many of his ideas are finding their way back into science and the field of neuro-psychoanalysis has given at least some evidence for his theories. We are in no position to prove him wrong. There is still much to be learned from this genius mind and his theories are as fascinating (and inconvenient even) for modern people as they were 100 years before. Yet, people have more prejudice against them than actual knowledge. The unconscious, however, is still a wondrous force of nature and one should face it with a certain humility

      @@Johnny12575 No, what I query about is that empirical science is not proof for a to confirm a theory. A fact is sth that is true and because the data from emperics can be interpreted in various ways so it can't be fact.
      Like you said there is mathematical proof that can't be interpreted in various ways because it is a closed system so it can be a fact. Physics and psychology for example are open system so you can't "proof" a theory but only give indication.Therefore it can't be absolute truth thus not a fact.
