- čas přidán 15. 08. 2024
- Andy Boyd, 3M U.S. Markets Manager of Paint Booth Solutions, and Steve Tarnowski from 3M Technical Services, give tips for using 3M PPS 2.0. These are features that professional painters have encouraged us to share with the market.
Tip 1: How to use the new locking system (00:37)
Steve shows how to use the new quarter-turn locking system.
Tip 2: Two lids for all five cups (01:37)
Find out how two lids work for all five cup sizes. One lid size fits on midi, midi and micro cups, and the other fits on standard and large.
Tip 3: Benefits of domed geometry (02:35)
This is one painter’s favorite feature of PPS 2.0. With 3 ounces of paint coming out of the gun at all times, you get better spray performance and fewer interruptions. Draining can be tricky with more paint above the filter - here’s how to do it.
Tip 4: How to remove lid and liner (04:18)
Here are easy ways to remove the lid and liner from the hard cup if you need to.
Tip 5: Features of universal shaker core (05:26)
It’s two-sided, so it can be used with all five cup sizes. It’s keyed, so it securely locks in. Since it’s keyed, it can act as a wrench to remove a stuck locking collar. Finally, it creates a secure base for storing the cup upside down.
Important note:
There are of course many factors and variables that can affect an individual repair, so the technician and repair facility need to evaluate each specific application and repair process, including relevant vehicle, part and OEM guidelines, and determine what is appropriate for that repair.

Great explanation video, all made perfect sense to me and was easy to follow. I'm british, so fast speaking and getting point across quick is normal.
If you can't keep up just adjust your video speed and turn on subtitles👍
I have a pps 2.0 h/o cup (26124) I use with a standard sized cup (26173) and the liquid leaks from the cup even when tight
Good stuff. Best in the market 👍
I would like to give this system a try, but just to try it out is SOOOOO EXPENSIVE!!!
Can i use 1.0 hard cup for 2.0 liner ?
Nice video steve
I have a PPS 2.0 starter kit coming. Does it have the shaker ring? Or do I have to source that separately?
This system does not work well with conversion varnish. I initially thought my needle and air cap was clogging up on my gun but i actually think it’s the screen on the lid or it’s a feeding issue. The top coat seems to spit and sputter out the gun with this pps system, but when i change to my normal bottom feed container or my normal gravity feed container… my flow problems are eliminated. I’m using fuji q4 system
With one hard cup per kit, like at starter kit, are the mix ratios on the inside or outside?
I ask because as painters like things clean, a lint-Free rag, will a lacquer, acetone of brake cleaner (Bubba Proof) but will this ratio chart dissolve and wipe off? Just doing my research before making a kit purchase. Thanks. ASE Master Tech in 1978.
Can it be used on a apollo atomizer 7700 gun
I'm having an issue with my cup. The liner ballooning and then leaks all over. This just started today. I have sprayed several times with no issues until today. Plz help
check your spray gun, your gun back pressuring the cup by itself. air cap, baffles, tight up everything that supposed to be tight.
Old system liners works on a new system pps 2.0.?.. im ask for the liner only
How easy is it to change colors for murals/ Thank you
I can't get my cups to pull out all of the air when turning upside-down
Probably should have watched the entire video before asking last question. When you pull the liner out with the lid, is the lid a snap fit on the liner? How secure is that attachment outside the hard cup? Thanks again!
The lid and liner should come out of the hard cup as a single unit. The lid should stay connected to the liner. That said, the lid does not really “snap” into the liner. The lid has an interference fit into the liner, which seals it from leaking. Sometimes that interference fit is tight (giving that snap) and sometimes that interference fit is not as tight (no snap). When the interference fit is looser the lid and liner can become separated upon removal from the hard cup. If this is not desirable, you can push the liner and lid out of the hard cup from the bottom (there is a hole in the bottom of the cup). This will prevent the lid from coming off the liner.
Can you tell me what I need for a fugi T70 spray gun bottom can type,,
I may be quite a bit late to be of help to you, but perhaps someone reading this in the future can benefit from it, and save themselves some grief as the learning process with these tools is convoluted and no one makes it simple. Unfortunately, one cannot simply purchase the 3M PPS 2.0 system packs of liners & lids (which will usually come with one non-H/O cup inside each pack) and slap it directly on to a Fuji spray gun (or most any turbine HVLP spray gun system). It requires the use of the "H/O" style hard cups, which are pressurized by the gun via an external hose (same as the OEM cups). The 3M PPS 2.0 liners and lids are then used with the H/O cup and its provided screw-on top ring instead of the non-H/O cup and retaining ring that will come with most liner/lid refill kits. To use the refill liner & lid kit lids with the H/O cups, one must first remove the black top ring from the provided refill kit lids. They just snap off.
For the Fuji Spray T70 (bottom feed, 1-qt aluminum cup comes with it stock), which I also started with, you will need to start with the 3M PPS 2.0 "adapter", part S18 (aka 3M part # 26054) to interface with / connect the gun to the 3M PPS system. The OEM bottom cup holder (cup clamp) retaining nut is the MIDDLE nut of the three nuts visible in between the gun body & the cup (the largest one). It is removed by turning CLOCKWISE (looking from the top of the gun DOWN) to remove, using the flat multi-wrench tool provided by Fuji. It will be on tight (tighter than you'd expect), as it is a pressure / compression fitting. The part is currently running around $26 (from $25-27+) on AMZ.
Then you will need to choose either the 13.5 oz H/O hard cup ("midi" size, 400ml, part # 26121; currently around $57 on AMZ) *OR* the 28 oz H/O hard cup ("large" size, 650ml, part # 26124; currently around $80 on AMZ). The size H/O cup you choose will depend on your projected needs.
The 13.5 oz "midi" sized H/O hard cup will allow you to use the 3 oz "micro", 6 oz "mini" or 13.5 oz "midi" liners and lids in one size H/O outer cup. All three of the smaller sizes of liners are the same diameter at the top and fit inside the top lip of the 13.5 oz H/O cup. The provided lids (which are all the same size, regardless of which liner/lid refill kit you buy, 3 oz - 6 oz- 13.5 oz) will cover & seal all three liner sizes & will be held down with the H/O cup top ring (once the original non-H/O black retaining ring has been snapped off). As they are used all three sizes of liners will compress within the 13.5 oz H/O cup as pressure is applied by the gun via the included tubing, which runs from the gun to the tube fitting at the bottom of the H/O cup, similar to the original OEM cups).
The 28 oz "large" H/O hard cup will allow you to use either the 22 oz "standard" size liners & lids, or the 28 oz "large" liners & lids. The 22 oz liners & lids work similarly within the 28 oz H/O cup as the smaller version.
Within all 5 sizes of liners you also have the choice of purchasing a liner/lid kit with either a 125um / micron filter lid or 200um / micron filter lid, depending primarily if you are planning on using water or solvent based products (respectively). If you do not want to use the filtering aspect of the lids (perhaps you prefer to only filter through a filter cone while mixing, prior to pouring into the 3m PPS cups), the filter screens are fiberglass and can be removed. Once you have completed your current spraying session, you can 1/4 turn to remove the 3M PPS 2.0 H/O cup from your gun, put one of the rubber plug stoppers (provided in almost every liner/lid refill kit) on to the top of the cup lid to seal it, and turn it over on to the plug (which is just wide enough to balance the filled cup on) to rest on your bench. This will help prevent the finish from drying. Ideally, you also want to have enough material left inside the cup to cover the filter screen built into the lids, or else the material on the screen will dry out and it may not allow material to pass once dried, or worse it may cause dried bits to mix in with your material once you re-attach the cup to your gun and start to spray again.
Liner/lid kits come in 6 pair & 12 pair "refill" kits, and normally come in 50 pair kits, along with a number of rubber stopper plugs. A few local automotive paint supply shops have actually broken down their big 50-packs and will sell individually.
Almost any reputable automotive paint supply will carry many of the 3M adapters and liner/lid supplies in stock. Most may have never heard of the Fuji guns or HVLP system, but the adapters and liner/lid kits are universal to other brands. I've actually found my local auto paint suppliers to have slightly better pricing than online, and if I become a semi-regular customer they often will start giving small "customer loyalty" discounts (5-10%, etc). As with anything, the more you buy the more you will be appreciated in return.
On a footnote, you may want to get a second H/O cup in the same size. Besides being a "spare", you may find that you have to spray two or more different materials around the same time, perhaps for two different projects. In order to re-use the H/O cup for the second project you may find yourself having to remove the previously used (but not completely used up, say between coats) liner and lid from one material so you can put a new, clean liner and lid in the H/O cup to shoot a different material. In an attempt to save the unused portion of the material from the first project you may find that removing the liners & lids intact from the H/O cups messy, as you cannot push up through a hole in the bottom of the cup to assist in removing liners as with the standard, non-H/O cups. Sometimes the liners & lids stay stuck together, sometimes not, which can make a mess if you have some material in the cup you are trying to save.
If you do become adept at cleanly removing the previously used liner and lid (with the material you are trying to save) from the H/O hard cup, then one may move them into a standard non-H/O cup, pop on the original style retaining ring, and screw the ring down to the non-H/O cup in order to “store” the material for another time. In this way you could manage with just one H/O hard cup (no spare or additional H/O hard cup purchases needed). The other benefit of moving the liner and lid (containing the material to be saved) to the non-H/O cup with non-H/O lid ring is that one could then use the 3M PPS 2.0 “shaker core” (# 26458) to attach to the non-H/O setup to provide a wider base to “stand up” the filled cup upside down, instead of just trying to balance the whole arrangement on just the rubber stopper plug (as shown near the end of the video).
@@ronc4146 extremely detailed and informative reply! I spray with a Fuji system and initially had the Series 1.0 system. When it became harder to find replacement components for this I upgraded to the Series 2. 0. After buying the adapter for the lids I was able to marry parts from both to make it work. Again, your information confirms that I did everything correctly.
Kudos to you!
Which price
Will these cups work with both the 2.0 and the new performance paint guns?
These cups work with all spray guns, just need an adapter
I am proud to work at a plant that packages them.
Why didn’t you guys make the ratio starting from 1:1 like every other mixing cup? Rather then starting from 2:1?
The 1 to 1 on most paint cups is done by using the ml not the ratios.
I.e 100ml to 100ml lol pretty simple
The Legacy system (1.0) uses diverted gun air to pressurize the hard cup thus giving a squeezing affect on the liner.
Which forces the paint from the liner, through the on cap filter and into the gun. With this "bottomless" hard cup how does the system pressurize to push paint through the filter and into the gun chamber for dispersing? I don't see tubing laying on the table nor discussion. Gravity alone is not going to pull most finishes through.
I don't know if this answers your question. If you turn the gun upside-down pull the trigger it pulls the air out of the liner, then your ready to spray. It burps the system and compresses the bag. You can spray at any angle, even upside-down
the pps 2.0 H/O would be what you're looking for.
"slow down - you guys talk too fast- great video just a little difficult to follow; "I GOT IT"
@Patrick Peterman > I have had both, real fast or just slow. Once the video has loaded, click the gear in the upper right corner of the screen. You will see options & 1 is “Play Back Speed”. Click on it & drop-down box that allows you to slow down one speed or more if needed. Click the “OK” button in lower right corner of drop box, then done. Watch as is or enlarge it to full screen.
These guys are salesman. They get help to change a license plate, so don’t expect them to answer any comments as management most likely made that a rule! Hope this helps, from a retired auto tech. Better late than never & May help someone else. Take care!
Like Patric said, slow down! Maybe we can take notes. You have a stack of boxes behind you, but didn’t take the time to show “This cup size system is XX ml or XX oz, p/n XX... This lid fits these 3 cup and is p/n XX and so forth. Put it on the screen, pause long enough to lets us write it down, etc. I other words, your promoting product(s), but no p/n’s. Make it user friendly.
Also, here or somewhere else, the topic came up about a kit that contains 4 large, 3 medium and 2 small and the stuff that goes with it other than the gun’s adaptor (Sold to fit a particular thread, internal-external) Maybe I am being picky but after 6+ years of holding technical seminars (4 hrs Long) for GM, I had to learn quickly what works and what does not. A crowd of 100+ techs will let you know and I warned them in advance, that information was going to be covered that was not in the power point. Just asking to think about the guy who wants to know.
