I was born and raised in an area where black bears were very common. When you feed a black bear from a family picnic area, the bear thinks this is a food source. When other people are there and don't feed him, he becomes aggressive. Usually becomes tragic as the bear gets shot and killed as a result of people feeding them.
that isn't what (usually) happens. people love to trot this garbage out because i guess it's easier to believe that than the reality: yes, it is bad for bears to get habituated with humans, but not because the bears 'get aggressive if not fed'. i mean, what kind of sense does that even make? and do you have a source or citation to back that claim up? what actually happens, according to the evidence i am familiar with, is that habituated bears assume people will be friendly and then they try to interact with people that either aren't friendly or that do something just outrageously stupid then of course the bear reacts aggressively and everyone has a bad day just important to remember that humans are basically always the problem. we're stupid and shitty, and that means habituated animals are at risk not because they get greedy but because they will run into stupid, shitty humans that get said wildlife into trouble
Black Bears are not as bad as people think. They take what they can get and are very thankful animals, they are basically like big racoons. They are scavengers. Grizzly bears are a totally different story.
