    I loved the way the jockey was trying his hardest to get king john's castle to move but the horse just would not budge.Just the way he stood there with his head and ears up and just watched the others run off.

    A combination of the two toughest equestrian sports. Steeple Chasing isnt any more cruel than the super bowl would be if you had to both deal with the football AND a soccer ball! You MUST give these jockeys and horses props. Anyone who things this isnt sport doesnt even deserve to be left in the presence of any living creature.

  • @alipitogen
    @alipitogen Před 12 lety

    Good comparison.The Taxis was nuts before they changed it.It was the chasing equivalent of Russian Roulette.The size of the huge soft hedge made it almost impossible to jump out over the huge ditch on the landing side.The bank of the ditch met the landing horses at an angle of nearly 45 degrees and many horses just went "thud" into it.It was the kind of fence where not just paramedics should have attended, but a couple of priests and undertakers too.

    OMG - first time I've ever seen a steeplechase. Those are superhero horses - how the heck do you condition a horse to run that far and jump so many fences? And how the heck do those jockeys stay on in that position?? Makes me feel like quite the prat for falling off my horse in way tamer situations. How thrilling!

    I am not an amimal rights activist, and I do actually work for a bookie. The grand national is great race and it still would be a great race with slightly smaller fences. Although there were no casualties this year (if you dont include the two from the Topham chase the previous day), there have been casualties previously and unnecessasirily so. Slightly smaller fences and perhaps fewer runners.

    The horses run because the love it. This is there life. They would not be race horses if this was not the case. A human could walk in front of a car and die is that not the same thing though. we should feel privileged that these horses are doing what they are meant to be do. You haters should get a life

  • @tigerarmyrule
    @tigerarmyrule Před 11 lety +1

    The haters have won anyway Wayne as today's race shows. Though there were a few unseateds there was not a real faller in the entire first circuit. The modified fences are just kicked out of the way by the horses - how they have the ckeek to call the thing jumped at 6th Becher's Brook I do not know. It is a plain fance of easily dealt with spruce - and its actually now just another staying handicap.

  • @vixitrixalina
    @vixitrixalina Před 12 lety

    @SCOTTinHd1 sorry i'm just sick of people saying this race should be banned. it's been going for over 150 years, its a tradition almost. the course has been modified so much its barely a race anymore - the jumps used to be bigger, the ditches wider, the drops lower and the fences were stiffer. not only are the jumps now so much safer but they're less wide, to allow loose horses to run out so they don't cause pile ups.

    I think the post changes Taxis is an almost perfect test......massively challenging but not capriciously difficult. It is what the pre changes Bechers was. As you know the majority of Aintree fences are in truth no more a challenge than a stiff parks course with the 1st, 3rd, and Bechers and the Canal Turn being exceptions. The changes to the 1st and Bechers may be a step too far. Unpredictable difficulty is part of the essence of the National

    @krizzel36 Yeah, I meant that these horses in particular are bred and trained just for running fast. How could thay understand the risks involved. These horses will run no matter what. People are responsible for the circumstances they put their horses in.
    My comment was a response to people saying horses can't be forced to run, and also that even in this race one horse decided against running, and didn't leave the starting line. That's true, but is not enough to justify this race.

    @Mr75littlebay Still unique but over the course a competent jumper should have no undue trouble . Still a great race but no longer the remarkable test it was when I was a kid in the 1970s. The Taxis is a far more difficult test even with modification then Bechers now is.

    i hope these people who made alterations to the fences are pleased with themselves, 5 horses have been killed in the last three nationals and about 20 since they made changes in 90, in the 60s only 4 horses were killed when the fences were bigger and so were the fields, even then one was a loose horse that injured itself and another got brought down at the water, they just cant understand that making the fences smaller is more dangerous, bigger fences would lead to a more sensible gallop

  • @koala1234ish
    @koala1234ish Před 13 lety

    @comeonshaymen I don't hate GN. About cruelty, try googling "slaughtering race horses". You'll find that in Australia alone "Of the 17,000 thoroughbreds born last year, only about two-thirds will ever make it to the racetrack. Of those, most suffer injuries or do not run fast enough and only about 1 to 3 per cent make it to top events." Worldwide there are ten times more bred every year. It's a huge industry and it is about money. What do you think happens to 190 000 thoroughbreds every year?

  • @koala1234ish
    @koala1234ish Před 13 lety

    @jss1886 Why is dog fighting so different? It's an ancient sport, isn't it, and I'm sure there are dogs who are just superb and survive. It's the same here, there are winners, but there are even more those who fall. The falls are no accidents, they are prone to happen in this setting, and they have to happen for the thrills. That's what I'm against, I don't think horses are made to run or mistreated otherwise. Lower fences would not help that much safetywise, the track is just way too crowded.

  • @imnothereactually
    @imnothereactually Před 13 lety

    @frconvey I backed it and was gonna rip it up, hes in a class of his own

  • @koala1234ish
    @koala1234ish Před 13 lety

    And also, I know horses are not "forced" to run this course. However, in comparison to humans, horses have tiny brains ;). They don't have any concept about safety other than it is safe to keep running with the pack and clearing those fences. Also, they are "thoroughly" bred, fed and trained for "full blast", that's their life. Saying that a horse like that could decide for himself if it is safe to run/jump the course, is like saying... I don't even know what would compare.

    • @awuma
      @awuma Před 6 lety

      Actually, horses in their way are intelligent, and much more of their psyche is now widely understood than was previously. After their racing days are over, many thoroughbreds make excellent riding horses which don't go "full blast".

    Okay, horses and humans come far from being similar.
    Humans evolved to have brains that thrive on competition, we can't mentally bear it to just sit around all day. Horses, on the other hand, have nothing in their mind but mating and eating. They eat to live. They mate for life. As you can see, in the wild, horses need no such mental stimulation as running around, risking their lives and gene pool just to be a superstar winner racehorse...
    They are simplistic creatures, really.

    The point of animal rights groups is to stand up for animals who cannot speak out for their own rights. Do you really think that every single horse out on that field wants to be there instead of grazing on a nice, grassy field? Would they really risk their lives on a racecourse only to bring their owners pride?
    It's not about what YOU want. The horses are the ones running.
    I'm not against racing entirely, only many aspects of it.
