- Meet the Gorillas from the family troop at ZooParc de Beauval in France! An introduction video to the family troop. Series runs every Thursday at 2pm GMT+1 .
The silverback of the troop is magnificent Asato ( Uncle of Ozala and Asante!) . He was born on the
20th October 1991 at the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust.
His offspring are Khala, Mayombe, Mapenzi, Sawa, Mayélé, Yamba, Kiwano, M'Baku and Kovanga.

Their full brother Gorilla Yamba (M) (aka cute fluff ball , just my take of him 😂) was born on the 29th of Dec 2015.

Gorilla Kovanga the youngest of the troop was born on the 16th Mar 2019.
His mum is Kabinda. Sister Mayélé. Brothers: Mapenzi and Yamba.
I would have loved to bring you whole male troop as well of ZooParc de Beauval. The weather wasn't great and with no indoor viewing area I only saw Kumi and a quick look at Sadaki. I will include these clips in this series.

SV how big is ZooParc Beauval? They seem to have a very large gorilla troop there. As gorillas required a very large amount of land, I do hope that this is what they have so that their environment is stimulating and as natural as possible. Thank you for the extensive detailed write up. Beauval is going to keep me busy getting to know who's is who. If you pick up on any personalities or physical features to help us distinguish everyone, that would be very helpful. Thank you SV. ❤🦍♥️
At first sight, it looks quite small inside for such a large troop, but it's deceiving because it seems cramped as they got so many enrichment things in there. It's two rooms separated by a door, which is only closed when cleaning. Each area has its own little pool which will be featured soon (members video is out now😊). Lots to climb and swing. The outside island is huge with a climbing frame and the great thing about the outside is as well, there is a massive roof where they love spending time under. You know most of my editing was spent trying to figure out who's who. When I'm there I just concentrate on filming and try to figure out who is who when I'm back home. My first go-to is always the nose prints and looking for photos on the net if I can match them. Of course, that means if I get them only from behind or the side, it's a very difficult task and I don't always get it right, especially when you get the youngsters that run around or the same size. Also, I use process of elimination. Silverback easy, Kabinda very obvious who she is by her boobs, Inge the oldest, Yamba the fluff ball was easy. M'Baku and Kovanga were quite challenging at times as they are similar size and when they run around is hard to spot their difference. I had real trouble with Mapenzi and Mayélé as they are quite similar, but if you see the noses it was fine. By the end of all the editing I think I got to know them a lot better. I even went back and changed some names as it was more obvious who it was.
As always to help you along, there will be the descriptions. I just hope I did get it all correctly in the end 😊
@SloggerVlogger Thank you SV. I have learnt something new, to concentrate on identifying by the nose print. For this troop I am going to create a scrap book. Thanks also for explaining the gorillas enclosure. It's good to hear that they have a good supply of enrichment toys to keep mentally stimulated. I am so looking forward to learning more.
