The more I think about Ken in the Barbie movie, the more sad his situation really is.
Officer K had his memory viped clean, not remembering anything from his past life. But then he found something.. a glimpse of his past life, a life as the Ken. At first he thought it was impossible, unreal. But the more he saw.. The more he remembered... And the more he remembered, the more he suffered...

Ken… I remember that name. They used to call me that. That was a long time ago.
Things changed a lot since then, didn’t they? I guess that’s how progress works.
I always knew I wasn’t... human. I didn’t born, I was made.
The world I lived in was different. It was brighter. And pink. Even so, I felt empty. I loved a girl. Her existence meant everything for me, but I wasn’t loved back.
For a certain amount of time, I thought that was how things were and nothing could change that. I didn’t even suffer anymore. That was my reality. But then… a journey.
A journey travelled with that same girl opened my eyes. It gave me hope. Things did not have to be this way! I just had to be able to stand on my own two feet, I had to learn not to depend on her, and maybe things would change. I didn't have to be alone maybe I would have found another girl.
Nothing has changed since then. I still believe in this principle but ... things have not turned out well. Being emotionally self-sufficient turned out to be a tougher feat than expected and also ... I never found love again.
A catastrophe then occurred. Barbieland was destroyed. I guess humans no longer have any interest in such things. I managed to get through just before the portal was destroyed. I went back to the human world. I left everything behind and rebuilt my life. I changed jobs. Evidently "Beach" was still not an acceptable proposition, even years later.
I learned that human beings now set out to create their own, artificial counterparts. I saw myself in that creation and posed as one of them. After all, that was what I was. No more, no less. They called us "replicants."
My resentment had grown over time, masked behind a solid, indifferent face. I changed my name, picking up from my former appellation, which now seemed to be too long. K was just fine. I began to hunt down my own kind. Apparently, there was a dedicated job. The Blade Runner.
Every now and then my thoughts ran to that girl. No matter how hard I tried to see her differently, I couldn't help but think that she had broken my heart and after that had abandoned me for a better life. Eventually, I stopped thinking about it. The void would not be filled. I tried many other times to approach another girl, but it didn’t work out. probably because of my lack of self-confidence, which had become stronger in recent years. Who was I, if not a plastic puppet? I didn’t want to ruin another’s life. I had resigned myself to spending my existence alone when I saw her.
Her name was Joi.
Another artificial entity. They seemed to be very popular among humans in this era. I decided to get one, at least to have some company in my apartment.
But slowly I realized that ... I was falling in love with her. Her kindness, her voice, her personality. I loved everything about her. She had become my light. Once again, the world, as dark as it had become, seemed to have a faint glow. There was still hope.
And in the end... Joi was taken away from me. And the memory of her followed her. Seeing that commercial again reminded me -- that she was nothing more than an artificial entity. Like me. Like the ones I used to hunt. Like this whole world, which now seems darker than ever.
I'll do what I have to do. That's how it's always been. I'm tired.
