Good video. I picked up one of your psalteries from a friend who bought it in '05 .. it's a 22 pin Cherry and Maple..looks nice. Just started fiddling with it. Your videos are very informative and you have such a calming way. Thanks for doing them.

great video Rick. i have an external tuner i use for my hammered dulcimer which i think will be ok to use for the psaltery as well. i did try the Pano Tuner for my iphone 11 pro, both the free one and the 1.99 one and both will let me open the appt but it freezes my phone and i have to completely shut down my phone to close the app. after looking at the reviews for the Pano app, multiple people with iphones complain of the same thing, just wanted to let you know. hopefully they can fix the bug somehow.

That's odd, my nephew uses it on his iphone. I'll be sure to ask if it gives him any problems.

You read my mind. I was just wondering this. Coming from an organ, woodwinds, and organ background tuning strings takes a new fortitude. So how many strings and how long does it take to tune it?

It's like any other instrument in tuning. You just have to learn the process, which I show in this video. My 30 string psaltery takes roughly five minutes to tune.

Kind of hard to find psaltery cases, but a Google search might turn some up. I have found that a ukulele case is a good fit for psalteries. You just need to match the length to the case you buy.

Thank you so much. I've broken a string on my psaltry. The book says string size 0, but I can't find that size. Any suggestions? Thanks again, this has been the best video I've watched on tuning.

Hi Ed, Thanks for the nice comment.
Number sizes are a common way of identifying gauges of music wire, which is what the strings are made from. Size 0 is a .009" size string. Here's a link to where you can get some, but just buying a few the shipping is expensive.

If you have a music store nearby they should have some single strings.

@@Psalteryman Thanks! I'll check the music store in Rolla.
