  • Tabliss is a beautiful, customisable "New Tab" page for Firefox and Chrome, and the browsers that base of Firefox and Chrome (such as LibreWolf and Brave). In particular, it solves the "empty tab" problem that I was having on LibreWolf. Tabliss is free and open source software and is licensed under the GPL.

      While I think this add on is awesome, I am used to just displaying my bookmarks in firefox to the the left hand side. It allows me to navigate to each site without having to open a new tab. It saves me a click.

    If the image you want for the background is too distracting their are "display options" to add blur and change luminosity. I haven't had a new tab instead of bookmarks bar set up since I last used Opera.

    Another thing I personally recommend looking into, if you haven't already; Ungoogled Chromium.
    Basically, Taking raw open source chromium code, stripping out everything that points back to google, and releasing publicly downloadable builds of that, which are mostly up to date with mainline Chrome. Installing extensions requires a little backdoor works, because Google's addons site doesn't have the functional telemetry hooks to detect Ungoogled chromium as a supported browser, but it's a fairly simple solution using a closely related add-on that puts a button on the pages to download the raw addon files. It's been slowly growing on me, and I may switch to it in the meantime while I wait for the Librewolf team to start releasing windows builds.

    Pinned links looks nice. But in my opinion even better are keywords for bookmarks (works in firefox). So you can do more without clicking, for example:
    youtube as yt
    reddit as rd
    gitlab as gl
    paypal as pp
    And then all you have to do to open a bookmark is to write down its keyword in adress bar.

      Tabliss is nicest new tab extension I've seen, but it doesn't look exactly how I want it. Instead I use my own new tab page, which is a lot more basic due to my limited knowledge of Chrome extensions and JavaScript. Namely my quick links are hard coded and my backgrounds have to be in a specific folder on my PC and have to follow a set naming scheme. Hopefully one day I'll be able to make it so I can easily add quick links, set their icon and add backgrounds through a built-in GUI.
      Also, I don't understand why the 24-hour format clock in tabliss shows 12 AM as 24:00 instead of 00:00

    • @swirl6996
      @swirl6996 Před 3 lety

      I made a quick and simple one in like 5 minutes through userchrome.css. getting tabliss is just unnecessary bloat, especially because I don't want my system to look "cool" or "sleek". That's the exact reason why I use LXQt

    • @Regexion
      @Regexion Před 3 lety

      @@swirl6996 LXQt is pretty decent, but definitely very unpleasant to look at out of the box. Though I feel it's rather overrated given that XFCE4 uses only slightly more RAM, but looks and feels much better out of the box and it's definitely easier to customize.
      The RAM difference is less than 100MB in my case and my XFCE4 install is fully customised, whereas my LXQt install is pretty much barebones.
      XFCE4 has a perfect balance good looks, ease of use and minimalism, in my opinion.

    • @swirl6996
      @swirl6996 Před 3 lety

      @@Regexion honestly I like its look out of the box. Also, I tested and it seems the RAM difference between Xfce and LXQt is around 100-150MB (possibly 200????), so it's kind of big but yeah it's not like GNOME where it just uses up an entire gigabyte of RAM because GTK is awful

It looks like it's designed for a tablet, rather than a PC and the amount of RAM it uses is ridiculous. Then again, still better than Windows 10.
