If you take a $11,000 car and add tax ( I don’t know your country’s sales tax, but let’s say 6%, that would be 660.00 plus any license and registration fees plus add you insurance, you will need full coverage if you are financing the car so the bank or lender will be guaranteed payment if you wreck the car and say you don’t want to pay for it ). For 3 years financing without interest your note would be $323.88 a month. This amount does not include any cash down payment you have to put down on the car, or the cost of insurance and registration fees. I hope this helps.

I think it it because most people in the United States are comfortable living in debt. Most people here will get the most expensive car that the bank will finance for them. And since almost everyone here would qualify for a $11,000 car, they say it is very cheap.

I know Bogota really well. My opinion. Don't put yourself in financial stress. You can take a taxi everyday and it would still be way cheaper than the car. If you feel you won't be stressed then do it. Otherwise a car in a city like Bogota is not necessary. Especially with Pico y placa.my humble opinión. AND the traffic!

Owning a vehicle in US represents freedom to us. Being able to go where we want and do what we want. That being said, the price of that freedom is debt and as some have stated, we're (some of us) are comfortable living in debt. As for you and what you're looking to do, I suggest getting an 2 to 4 years old in good shape that will be able to handle all the road condition you will face in your travels as you explore and share Latin America with us. Don't buy a brand new car, instead go for a second hand car. Car is a depriciating asset. Rather use your valuable money earnestly and intelligently. Save money and use the left over money in some sort of investments like stocks, bonds, mutual funds. Money drags money and car drinks money in the form of fuel and maintenance... I hope you get my point.

Ask yourself, can you live without a car ? Can you afford insurance ? Without insurance if you wreck the car you still have to pay the bank or you will ruin your credit for up to ten years (American Law). Without insurance if you accidentally crash into anything and it is your fault, you can and most probably will be sued for damages plus pain and suffering compensation. Can you afford the monthly payments ? Do you have job security to provide monthly payments up to three years to pay the car off ? It is more cost efficient to save up your money and pay cash so you do not have to pay interest to the bank. You have a case of what is called. “ Car Fever,” forget about the car for a couple of weeks and see how you feel about it. I promise you, the new feeling wears off in a hurry and you are stuck with monthly notes for the car for three years, sometimes you will think about you could use the money for something else that you enjoy but you can’t now because you have a car note to pay for. Main thing is, think long and hard about it, take your time and consider all of your options. Good luck.

This is how it is with many things. It’s best to Save $1000 to $2000 for that car and nothing else. If you are a kid trying to build credit Suzuki is the good option. Reduce & discount the price to $9000 an finance the rest. Even there paying Suzuki price is pointless. The Citron is nice in many countries.✌️😷

This is why people often retire, move to Colombia and live off their US retirement which allows them to live very comfortably. Many people in the US can buy an $11,000 car out of pocket. Do be very careful when working with banks and car dealers. Their main focus is keeping in you debt. Make sure you do your homework as they will take advantage of you. Don't buy a car when high on emotions and do a lot of research on the car you want to buy.

Oh. You wouldn't want to drive from bogota to la guajira even if you had a car. Very long drive but a quick flight.

@@dinodinosaur2930 yes. In big cities but I think it would be hard to get to remote areas. Guajira is very dry and roads can be sketch.

Get a car that allows you to drive everyday. See new things.

That small car doesn't have the power to go up in the mountains. I would get a mid-sized car with a larger engine. How is your credit with the bank? Put a down payment on one then make payments. Buy a good car that is reliable.

You don't even have a license, but in Colombia who cares hey! Too expensive it is not, you don't earn enough at the moment so just get a used shitbox and your good.

You are too cute. So in my opinion, a car is a luxury regardless of cost because you don't have to rely on public transportation or walk. So your ballin...even if your "whip is roasted"..lol...

    Hi Maya
Ford Bronco is low quality vehicle, doesn’t lost. Best choice for you in Colombia is to drive Toyota hybrid. Best is Toyota Prius Prime if you can afford it.
You will save on gas and last long time.
