  • Pre-pointe assessments are an important part of a ballet dancers journey towards the big milestone of beginning pointe work.
As physios we love to have young dancers through the clinic to assess their movement and help them work towards their goals.
We wanted to make a video to explain what happens in a pre-pointe assessment to give you an idea of the process (and to help with any nerves your dancers might have).
The lovely Petia from Generation Dance is already dancing en pointe but she came in to model some of the tests we look at during a pre-pointe assessment.
If you have a dancer looking at starting pointe work remember that the sooner they have their pre-pointe assessment the better. This gives us time to work on strength, balance or range of motion as needed to support a safe and secure transition to dancing en pointe.

This is amazing! Thank you! I’m (hopefully if I pass the test) getting my first pair of Pointes soon, and I’m heading off to a pre pointe assessment tomorrow! It’s good to know what will be in store for me! ❤
