In the universe of Impulse Responses, this thing can sound as good as any other undersaddle piezo pickup.
That's very true. The audio here has no IR or amp, just the raw sound direct to the DAW.

It is! I can't put it down. Sounds good amped too. Since I'm working in a home studio, having a good acoustic sound is something I've been struggling with as the mic becomes an issue in a noisy space. This is a really good workaround.

cool travel guitar to take with my spark GO! on my motorcycle camping trips in the UK..I just bought a Schecter C-6 plus last week, and should have bought one of these first! as I need a bike travel guitar, but a few beers and guitar porn got in the way🤔🤣

Yeah even at half the price of the Yamaha it's still an investment. Keep an eye on their website for special offers...they come up often!

Hi thank you for review. I just got this but i don’t know where to put the tuner. Where should i put the tuner?
Even though it's "headless," there is a metal loop above the nut (handy for hanging and display!). While much smaller than a traditional headstock, there's plenty of room to clip a tuner.
I also recommend you get a tuning fork to A440, and get into the practice of tuning your guitar using either the 5th fret method or harmonics. It's more accurate than doing each string with a tuner, which we've come to rely on but really should only be used to get close to pitch for restringing. Tuning the guitar to itself will always be more accurate (and reveal any problems with intonation if it's not).
@@woodsnstrings Thank you for the advice! Yes, I know there is a way to tune by ear, which I should learn to adopt. But I am still not good enough for accurate tuning. I will try to tune by ear first and see if I can tune well. I tried tuning by putting the tuner on the metal loop and it works! thanks.
@@user-qp6zg4pg1x my pleasure. Yes, I use a floor tuner and a clip tuner as a short cut. I'm not suggesting there's anything wrong with doing that at all; only that as you practice, you'll get better with your ear the more you do it, and it's more accurate to the instrument itself. As long as you're playing, I'm happy :)
Thanks for sharing. Is this full size (scale length) guitar, right? Can I turn the tuning key (at the bottom) by hand for fine tuning/ adjustments? (or always need the allen key) How's the action? Also they should have a built-in guitar tuner. They might add in the Hush-1.1 maybe :)
It is a full scale guitar.
You can turn the tuners by hand but they're tight. The key isn't inconvenient at all.
The action is great. Like a good acoustic.

@@christopherluise4581 couple of things to unpack there. First, it's a different guitar, so of course it's going to be different. It's not harder or easier than most acoustics I've played. But if your gig acoustic is challenging to play, you might need a setup too...a properly built instrument should actually be intuitive and comfortable to play on.
This one isn't difficult to play, but it's not super light either. It feels like a decent acoustic.

You mean the gauge of the strings. It ships with acoustic light strings (11's), but you can put any strings on it you like as long as they have a ball end.
Would you recommend this to a complete beginner? I live with my family who get easily irritated by sounds
I think you could do well learning on this one.
The tricky part must be to keep it in tune, you can't just tweak it quickly in the middle of a song!...also, playing open tunings becomes pretty complicated!...
@@mainsblanches8793 it's actually not that bad to make minor adjustments on the fly. Retunings would be more effort for sure

It can be, although using the key makes tuning fairly quick work. I tend to set my acoustics up for one tuning and leave it there.

You can use either but it's meant to be an acoustic guitar, so I would stick with those.
so... one gripe i have, and maybe it was with other talk of this guitar is that it was SILENT. like... you could use in an airport. to me it just sounds like an unplugged electric and that isn't silent enough not to bug people.
sure, maybe you can get away with it if you are practicing a lot and there is other noise, or if you are in another room, but.......... yeah.

Yeah, so that's super splitting hairs, as in the world of guitar parlance, a "silent acoustic" sounds like this. If you want an ACTUAL silent guitar that's completely silent, you could print out a picture I suppose.
When you silence an acoustic guitar, you eliminate its resonating chamber. It's "silent" in the way a violin mute doesn't actually mute it completely, but reduces the vibration to make it much quieter.
Yes, it sounds similar to an unplugged electric. With an electric, if you want to practice quietly enough not to disturb someone's Netflix or wake the kids up, you need headphones...and that will only work if you have an outboard preamp or some kind of FX unit that will let you process your effects to sound sort of like your speaker rig. People outside the headphones will still hear "plink plink plink." With this one, it's built to be an acoustic, which means instead of removing the signal chain they've removed the resonating chamber. It has an onboard preamp that gives you acoustic tone through a Piezo pickup, with the headphone jack right on the instrument itself. Anyone not on the headphones will still hear SOMETHING from the strings.
You can't get 100% silent as long as there are physical strings to play on.

It's not really a song. Just a simple chord progression (C G Am F -- or I V vi IV). Probably one of the most commonly used sets of chords in the history of Western music. And slightly out of tune at that.

I live out of my van and I like to take my laptop into the library to work. I recently bought an Artiphon Instrument 1 and I took that to the library and was able to use it without bothering anyone. But a real guitar would be even better.
The Artiphon is double the price but doesn't play or feel anything remotely like an acoustic guitar. You're going to have a hard time finding something that's completely silent and also resembles an acoustic in any way.
This one is "silent" compared to an acoustic. It's also no louder than an unplugged electric, which you could also use.
@@woodsnstrings Oh, for sure. But part of my concern is even bringing something that looks like a guitar into a library. I’m only speculating but I feel like people would see any musical instrument and immediately assume I’m going to be making inappropriate noise for the particular environment before even hearing it.

@@woodsnstrings Comfortable chair, air conditioning, unlimited electricity, no distractions or outside noises. Missing the things I need for music production is really the only major downside of living in a minivan.
@@stormbound_guitars many libraries actually have sound recording facilities in isolated booths. You might look into that. Or try a Starbucks :)

Probably the same as any other guitar. It's just an acoustic configuration without a resonating chamber. Did fine in standard tuning with a slide for my Eagles set.
Can it be used with nylon strings ?!
No, this model needs steel strings. Unless you can find a reliable way to make them knotted at the top of the nut, you're going to have trouble keeping nylon strings stable in there.

Looks great except for the 9V battery. WHY?! AAs are cheap and available everywhere, as are AA rechargeables.

9 volts are also cheap and available everywhere, as are 9 volt rechargeables. But here's the thing: why would you re-circuit a preamp when 9V is the industry standard?
Every active pickup system runs on 9 volts (as does every pedal, for what it's worth). So, redesigning a pickup system to run on AA batteries doesn't make sense. Plus, you'd need 6 AAs to get the 9 volts you need to run a standard preamp. Two AA batteries won't get you enough power output for preamp purposes, and looks bloody cheap when you drop it into an instrument.
Are the string too tight to play like many of these “baby” acoustic guitars?
The scale is pretty standard. I haven't had any issues.

I know YOU'RE joking, but a shocking number of people seem to think this is a headless electric. It's not. It's a piezo acoustic practice guitar. It'll chug about as well as an Ovation (but with less feedback).
Give one to Zakk Wylde and then will see if it's only an acoustic practice guitar
@@matforsbon oh I'm sure I could get it there too. But why waste the effort dialling it in when there are instruments built for that? You can get a TS808 to sound like an HM2 if you just open it up and modify the circuit board...but there's already an HM2.
By the way, Donner introduced the HUSH-X at Namm, and it is a pickup-loaded headless electric that chugs like a bastard, no shred god harrassment required.
I returned mine, the action was extremely high, very difficult to play if your use to playing a good guitar.
I don't imagine you tried adjusting the action as you would with any new guitar 🤔
Piezo is way quacky, I couldn't listen to that for long. You could probably get a good used Line 6 Variax for that price, at least you'd have some tones to choose from
The point of the demo was to go in raw with no IR. This is literally just the piezo with no treatment whatsoever.

It’s out of tune. As far as a cheap acoustic to play with headphones it’s okay. It sounds thin and artificial but for practice purposes (which is what this marketed for) it’s okay.
There's no IR on the output. There is on the headphone preamp, along with the 2 band EQ.
I've tried it using the Acus amp, although I don't know which model, the Hush-I sounds so good. You might think it's an artificial sound, but it's technically acoustic. The pickup is a piezoelectric pickup, which uses a change in pressure from the vibration of the strings to get the sound. It's the same pickup in every electric acoustic guitar.
If you tuned it, it intonates like a pig. If you didn't... wtf were you thinking?

Look, its primary function is as a silent travel acoustic. Its secondary function is to practice with the headphones. If you're practicing on a full-body acoustic, you don't get reverb either. Its tertiary purpose is to line out to an amp or DI; there you can put on as much reverb as you like.
You can add any effect you want to it. It has to be amplified to be heard, so plug in a reverb pedal.

Well, seeing as it's a practice guitar with a piezo (and the EQ set at noon with no IR on the DAW) I'd say your assessment of it as a practice guitar with a piezo is accurate.

The Yamaha is WAY better than the Donner. It's pro level where the Donner is pretty junky. No comparison.
