I love how it has a sight glass for the oil, all other brands need to take notes on this
Super easy! Very good video again guys. 👍👍😎
Really enjoy how engaged you guys are in other channels. Very detailed on the process.
We like to keep up with everything and everyone we can! Thanks for watching
-Garrett
Thx man just reached my 200mi and I feel like I have already changed the fluids because of the style of filming!!! You guys rock 👍🤙
This video saved me a bunch of money. Thanks
In addition to what Mark A Johnson said....puncture the oil filter at the bottom with a large nail to drain the oil before removing the filter from the engine and use the aluminum foil as a funnel.....this works great !! Awesome videos !!! I just ordered the dash plates for mine.....nice touch, gonna paint them silver as you did to match the white machines seats.
Awesome. Those will be shipping today.
I just punch a hole in the bottom corner of the oil filter with a long funnel under it, and let it drain for a while before I screw off the filter, it save alot of oil from spilling. But thats just how I do it.
Nice job gents!
Looks pretty simple and straight forward!
Yep very easy overall. -Garrett
Thank you for the info, I utilized your video for reference. This was my 1st time doing an oil change on my KRX. I too did my service at 170 miles (1st oil change).
Awesome, glad it helped out! 👍 -Garrett
Thank you all! Very informative and helpful as I’m nearing my first service on my machine. My dealer quoted $375 for my first maintenance. I’m like... that seems a little high to me. So I’ll do it myself lol
Sounds good, thanks for watching! -Garrett
Might void warranty though.
I've got major garage envy! My next house has to have a 4-car garage.
Shhhh. Don’t say that. Garrett’s head is already big enough. It’s definitely nice to have a space to do this stuff.
-Dave
Thanks for the links to the tools you used, I just ordered the oil filter wrench. Did my first service today and I cannot get that oil filter off. So I'll change that when the wrench comes in in a couple days.
Next time - make a funnel from aluminum foil (raid the wife's kitchen) for under the oil filter. You can form it to drain right into your drain pan! Great video!
Great point! -Garrett
Sweet KRX. Love the way they look. Also gotta show some love for the 6.0 too. I own one nothing sounds like it. Mines bullet proofed so no issues with mine.🤟
The 6.0 does sound nice especially with a 5” pipe. It’s been bulletproofed as well but I did have an injector go down a few weeks ago. That’s the only issue I’ve had with the truck since I bought it.
-Dave
Deranged Off-Road I’ve got a mint 7.3...but your 6.0 sounds sweet!
I had a really nice 97 crew cab 4x4 7.3 for quite a while. It was a sweet truck. I did an inter cooler on it. Sold it with 257,000 miles on it. Not one spec of rust.
-Dave
Deranged Off-Road Mine is a 1999 F350 Crew Cab 4x4 6 speed ZF6
Well mine did not go as smooth. It turns out that the 13 foot lbs of torque from the factory on the oil filter was applied by big foot. After fighting to get it off and using 5 different pullers I was finally able to make a tool that worked by fashioning my own tool out of the two new ones I purchased and the old ones I had. 7 hours later I was able to change the oil on two machines. Do yourself a favor and buy a filter with a bolt pre attached to put it on and take it off. I used the K&N after this experience.
I just purchased the oil filter socket that he used in the video. I cannot get my oil filter off either. Whoever put that on really tightened it down.
Thanks for this video man you saved me a fortune..... place I called told me 400 dollars for a fluid change
Dealers are crazy
Take screw drive and punch a hole in the oil filter it will allow the oil suction to be released and it will drain out more and you wont have to worry about it dripping when you remove the oil filter! Great video!
Thanks for the input. 👍 -Garrett
This will be invaluable IF the purchase happens
Say what?
Got the windshield coming. Should be here tomorrow.
Sounds good, let us know after you get it put on. -Garrett
@@DerangedOffRoad Does the front window with vents open keep the dust from swirling around in cab? or do you need to have the back window also?
I have a back window as well, but the vents are big and let in a good amount of air. So it should push it right out the back if you didn’t have a rear window. -Garrett
@@aldendonston4334 I have no back window, and it does a great job of keeping the dust from sucking into the cab. The vent doesn't even have to be fully open for it to be effective. It is well worth the money.
Nice machine, by the way, did you guys try it in a deep mud/dirt with mud tires on? Are suspension points and U joints all greasable or non greasable ?
You sir need a decent magnetic work light!! Check out the Saber LED work lights, I use my Saber stick light ALL the time!
The ones I have are magnetic but don’t go on much. You have a link for those you’re talking about? -Garrett
Deranged Off-Road yup, here ya go. www.toolpan.com/ATD-Tools-80304--3W-Saber-Strip-Light-with-Top-Light_p_3254.html
Rechargeable and it lasts for quite a while, I beat the shit outta mine, it’s a very good product 👌🏻
Thanks for all the great videos. I am learning a lot from you guys. Can you tell me anything about stopping all the dust coming in from the doors and such? When I am riding my left leg is completely covered in dust. What have you done about this?
I’m working on a solution to help cut it down and when I get it done, I’ll do a vid on it. 👍
@@DerangedOffRoad Awesome and thanks for the reply. I see that Kawasaki sells one for $99 but it is out of stock.
Nice unit, and it looks pretty easy to service. Did you start it after changing the engine oil so the filter would "Fill up", and then check the level again?
Yes we ran it for a few minutes then checked the oil level. -Garrett
Thanks much on this video now i know what tools i need and were the drains are! WHAT COOLANT DO YOU GUYS RUN FOR THE RADIATOR?
I use that blue ice stuff. 👍
Deranged Off-Road thanks guys
Drain case first
Hey man quick question..im ready to do my first service and I was wondering about crush rings/o-rings needed? Do you know if they use the same drain plugs/crush rings etc as the Teryx4? This is got me held up🤦♂️ Thanks man
If you order the oil change kit, it should come with o-rings and crush washers. Mine did but the crush washers were the wrong size. Couldn’t find the right size at the major auto part stores nearby so I reused the old ones. No leaks and torqued to spec. -Joe
@@DerangedOffRoad hmm ok well I might just do the same for now. I found that the gear oil plug and the rear diff both use crush rings 12x22 and the front is a O-ring not sure the size but for what its worth thats what i found. Thanks again brotha and if you figure it out please share🤙
What's your opinion on using full synthetic or petroleum-based engine oil?
Honestly to me I’m not to picky because they all work. I run Kawasaki brand what it calls for in the manual and that’s it. I’ll probably go to full synthetic with higher miles. People really get into brands of oils and stuff but Kawasaki brand oil is cheap and works great. -Garrett
Great video thanks for sharing, My only question is is why did you drive around the block to warm the oil up? why you did you warm the oil up to a 40 weight ? when a cold 10 weight drains much easier... no hate I truly need to know...Thanks
Oil drains much easier when warm, but it was mainly for the gear oil. I have never heard any oil draining easier cold? Please explain.
@@DerangedOffRoad well you're using a multi viscosity oil 10w40... 10 being what it is at being cold 40 as 40 weight being when the engine is at the operation temp. A 10 would flow better then a 40w ?
@@DerangedOffRoad and then let me ask you this let's say you don't start it up and you let that oil drain out your not circulating everything that has settled in the bottom of that pan..... and I'm not trying to cause an argument or anything I'm truly trying to understand this
Even in the Kawasaki KRX manual, it says to warm the engine throughly.
I just ordered a first time service kit for my new KRX and they sent me one bottle of gear oil and one bottle of Wet brake oil. Should I use it?
Yeah gear oil up front and back, don’t use the wet in the back.
1 and 1/16 for the front diff filler? What’s that in metric? 17?
I believe about a 28mm
I cant find the link for the tube adapter to make filling easy?
Hopkins 10106B/6 FloTool Spill Saver Trans Fluid and Gear Oil On-Off Filler Refill amzn.to/2Ez7B4l
👍
I'm just a little curious why you left the oil fill cap off why you were removing the oil filter? I just think that's asking for something to fall in. Just my $0.02's...
Makes it drain out faster
Did you guys replace the o rings on the front or rear diff bolts? I'm doing my change tonight, not sure if I need to worry about this or not...
No, if your careful when removing they should be good. I hardly ever change them out. -Garrett
@@DerangedOffRoad awesome and thanks for the quick response. My hunch was just to check them and make sure they weren't nicked or anything. Sounds like I'll be good to go!
Yep you should be all good.
What kit comes with the new o rings?
I just buy them, but honestly you don’t need to change them out every time.
What type of filter socket is that? Can you link it?
Here you go 👍
www.amazon.com/BikeMaster-Oil-Filter-Wrench-65mm/dp/B0041CA48G
Does the 800’s have an oil filter
Yeah the Teryx4 has an oil filter same size.
-Garrett
I can't figure find out where you order oil from
We order almost all of our stuff from here.
www.rockymountainatvmc.com/
Where can we buy the oil spouts?
Link in the video description. Amazon. -Joe
Great video, thanks for sharing. How many quartz of Gear oil will I need for front and back?
Get 3 but you will use barely two, but I like to have one extra.
Appreciate the video, well done....but seriously, how do you get it so clean? No matter what I try there is always dirt somewhere
Well Dave and Joe know that answer. I spend time pressure washing everything really well. I know I’m picky for sure. 👍-Garrett
Great info! It just needs better lighting.
Thanks, Yeah lighting can be better for sure. It’s tough in the garage at night
@@DerangedOffRoad cool! Keep it up.
Are there torque specs for the drain plugs?
I believe the oil drain is right around 15 ft lbs. I would say all of them are about that.
Why would you take off oil filter, with the oil filler hole open
I have always felt making sure the cap is off helps drain everything better and gets more oil out.
🇺🇸
Why would you have the giant crankcase filler plug out when you're taking off the oil filter? All you're doing is inviting crap to fall into that yawning opening to your crankcase! Leave that plug in until you're ready to add oil.
Also, how about how much lube went into the differentials and crankcase?
Oil drains faster. We keep our rugs clean so there's no crap to fall in.
Fluid capacities are all listed in the manual.
can you guys do a brake pad change video?
I actually might be getting close to that. 👍 -Garrett
@@DerangedOffRoad I just did the rear pads at 800 miles. Enjoy your videos, keep up the good work. Thanks
What brand is the windshield, back window? And do they have side windows? I like the style. But do they have an automatic wiper with different intervals you can switch to in light to heavy rain? Haven't gotten my krx yet but were getting one do I'm trying to get a parts list together.
Those are the Dirt Warriors windows. We have been running them for a long time and they’re great. They do offer a electronic wiper setup now as well and a full cab. You can find all the information on our website.

@@DerangedOffRoad awesome right on. Do they have a supplier in Canada? I'm on the east coast of Canada just above New York in a province called Nova Scotia. Looking to get the absolute best deal. Because the conversion rate between United States money and Canadian money is absolutely ridiculous. What cost you guys $400 cost us$680. Then you got international shipping to bring it across into the different country. What do you recommend
We can do shipping to Canada but we just have to quote it first. If you want something let me know and we can see if we can make it happen.
@@DerangedOffRoad right on go you own the dirt warrior company?
No, but we live just down the street from them and have worked with them for three years or so now.
what about the valves- on most rides gotta check valves first service!?
Garrett can correct me if I’m wrong but when I was looking through the book it had the valve check at 100 hrs I believe. Machines these days are definitely not like those from the 80s and 90s. They’re getting to be more like a car engine. When was the last time we had to worry about checking valves on a car?
-Dave
If I remember correct that’s not on the first service. I need to check though to make sure.
Follow up, valve service is actually not until 2,500 miles. -Garrett
thats awesome- thats a lot ridin befor takin that sh.t apard...another big + for that machine ;-))
I have the service sheet in front of me. The 1st valve clearance inspection is at 1,200 miles; thereafter every 2,400 miles.
U guys didn't do the transmission?
It’s all part of the engine oil. 👍
How in the hell do you keep that krx so clean?!
My buddy’s say I need to start a detailing business. My Teryx4 was the same way and I sold it in 20 minutes. -Garrett
A little trick for the oil filter, steal some tin foil from the wife, and make a dam out of it straight into the oil catch pan.
Did you guys end up us in 2 quarts of gear oil and a part of a 3rd ?
For the front and back?
Yes I’m changing all my fluids for the 1st time, Just making sure I order enough
Yeah order 3 and you will have more then enough. It’s really close to two bottles though, but I like extra on hand. 👍
Thanks Love your channel You guys are the reason I got a KRX
Thanks for watching 👍-Garrett
What about the trans oil ?
It runs off the engine oil. 👍
Deranged Off-Road so I don’t have to change it all I have to do is do the engine oil and that does the engine oil and the trans right ?
Correct, change engine oil and the two diffs.
Your video should be more specific like the tools needed, and the proper torque specifications.
You will however, need a 6 and 8 mm Allen wrench along with a 27 and a 17 mm. six point socket and a 65 mm oil filter wrench . this will be necessary to change the oil and front and 12:20 rear diffs. Refer to owner manuals for proper torque specifications.
Don’t forget your pre air filter up top.
Thank You for the video
What about the spark plugs?
Not changing those until 2,000 miles.
Engine oil keeps on increasing. How is this possible? Oil line showed pass half mark then after a couple rides the oil is passed the top line.
Does your oil smell like gas? -Joe
Is your coolant level staying the same?
@@DerangedOffRoad it’s close to full 🤷🏽♂️. Is it something I could fix or should I just call the dealer ? Just hit 100 miles
First just smell it and if it smells like gas then you have an issue or if you have coolant disappearing I would see the dealer.
This really no netter than the Kawasaki videos where they forget to mention details like the front diff drain bolt is a different size than the rear.
Actually, they listed 1 1/6" for the fill plugs and 6mm and 8mm respectively for the drains and 17mm for the oil drain. But hey, you could read the manual too lol.
Great learning video for me. Could do without the music though.
Yeah this is from a bit back and we have learned more and more. So most of our how to vids don’t have music anymore.
