  • In this video, I take the top off a CLARK 285V Transmission. It has been sitting outside for years! I plan to diasassemble it in a future video and take you along.
    These were used in Ford F-600 and F-750 trucks in the 1960s and '70s (and also used in other trucks). Many mechanics like these strong, reliable manual transmissions for their modern-day projects. They came bolted up to 361 and 391 V-8 engines but can be adapted to fit many others, including diesels. They are 5-speed with two power take offs possible. Let's have a quick look inside...

    Drove a 53 Euclid belly dump that had the Clark 5. I was so used to my dad's 66 Chevy pickup. I would try to put it in first gear and it was the 5th gear. Took a minute.lol😅. Tough transmission. It held up to that old 6-92 Detroit.

    I'm trying to get the gears out of the same transmission, not sure how, I have it stripped, as far as I can, now what?

    • @EverydayProjects
      @EverydayProjects  Před 7 měsíci

      I don't have this transmission anymore, but I did look up the specs online. I don't have them at hand, but I did find an old online manual that showed how to remove the gears. Just dig using the make and model number and Google may reveal the same information. This was done a couple of years ago and I moved, leaving this behind.

    I have one of these in a '74 F600. Do you by chance know what auxiliary transmission would mount behind this to make some extra speed?

    • @EverydayProjects
      @EverydayProjects  Před rokem

      No Idea what you could use. These transmissions are still used in a lot of upgrades so there should be some online forums that may help your decision. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

    • @EverydayProjects
      @EverydayProjects  Před 3 lety

      Not sure exactly what it weighs, but I think it's more than 220. I'd guess 280+ lbs. I've seen these advertised on several websites either in pieces or complete. Good luck in your search.

    Last summer a friend of mines gave me his old retired farm truck 1980 ford ln7000 with a cat 3208 and looking at the transmission i was shocked that it has a clark 5 speed because i thought clark only made forklifts

    • @EverydayProjects
      @EverydayProjects  Před 2 lety +1

      These Clark transmissions were popular--and were in more equipment than forklifts (I thought that CLARK was a name exclusive to forklifts too). These are still sought after because they are a strong, reliable transmission for many custom applications. Glad you enjoyed the video.

      @@EverydayProjects i believe it those are very good transmissions this ford i have has over 553,000 miles on it and the one thing that got me there's been zero maintenance on that truck in 30+ years i pulled the engine because it's blown but also pulled the clark transmission to inspect it yea when i drain it a very over loaded magnet and when i pulled the top of i was expecting chewed up gears no everything looks great still just got the truck up in going couple months back and that transmission works great wines a lil but it's all good

    Would it be worth matching that transmission to a cummins 8.3?

    • @EverydayProjects
      @EverydayProjects  Před 2 lety +1

      These transmissions still see a variety of applications in medium to heavy trucks. You would be best to research how to adapt the bell housing to your engine. I see no reason why it wouldn't work if you find a way to bolt it up.

    Is the output bearing retainer for sale

    • @EverydayProjects
      @EverydayProjects  Před 2 lety

      Yes it is. I was doing this video just for fun and the gears look like they are beyond repair. Email me and I can sell you the output bearing retainer. I'll have to ship it at your expense. I live in Western Canada. (Look in the ABOUT tab to retreive the email address).

      You may even find it cheaper online. I just did a google search and came up with this page: www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=285v+transmission+output+shaft+bearing+retainer

    Is that for that big Ford boom truck that you had in a video a while back? I'd like to get a PTO for my pickup. Not sure what I'd do with it but I like extra levers!

    • @EverydayProjects

      Yes, this is the spare transmission for the crane truck in one of my videos. The original drivetrain (361 cubic inch engine and the model 285V manual transmission) are still in the truck. This identical one was kicking around so I got curious about what's inside. I'm going to disassemble it, clean up everything and make a decision what to do. Not sure if it was defective or why it is here on the property (no history??). Here is the video you mentioned (in case someone wants to see it) :
