      Josh Denham got a 98 at a lot where I am that I’m buying. Only has 60k Miles. I’ve been debating keeping my 06 maxima which just has solenoid issues but will get many more miles (160,000 currently). What are the odds I’ll need to do a ton of maintenance on this bimmer bc of sitting so long?

    I own a 1996 740il. The US version. Amazing car. I've been rebuilding it from the ground up. It was an abandon car that I picked up for $700. It sat for 4 years untouched and I was able to get it running with just some good TLC. It had some cosmetic body damage and I'm still trying to fix the electrical system after the car had filled with water (leaky sun roof). But outside of that, with a tune up, she running and sounds amazing! You can never go wrong with the rumble of a v8.

    I had a 1989 735Li with i6 engine, it was a low maintenance, reliable and well built machine!...Then I got an E38 2001 740iL, everything on that thing broke, electronics, plastics, exterior trim, engine was hell to keep up with issue wise. If the E38 was reliable and low maintenance like Lexus LS, I would have loved to keep the E38.

    • @blaxbently
      @blaxbently Před 4 lety

      INTERNATIONALvids my 6th gen maxima is reliable and low maintenance sitting at 160k Miles currently. I just need to clean up solenoids. Would u take a chance on trading a maxima like mine for a 60k mile 98 740il?

  • @onemanarmyEST
    @onemanarmyEST Před 7 lety +4

    I have a year 2000 E38 730d, it's a great car, it has over 377 thousand kilometers on the odometer. The fuel economy is great for a car that size, averaging about 6,9-7,4 l/100 km for me and the maintenance costs are low if you don't skip oil changes. It's best to replace the swirl flaps with blanking plates, because when the swirl flaps wear out, they will fall into the engine. Finding a well kept E38 isn't easy, because the cars are at least 15 years old. Buying a "cheap" E38 with several problems becomes much more expensive than buying a decent E38 for a high end price range.
    By the way 1:28-1:30 before and after facelift footages are switched.

    I am looking to buy a 1999 740ia with 114001km on the clock imported from japan to norway, it has part leather and alcantara interior sport seats, warmed rear and front seats, pdc, warm weather package, original alpina styling and rims, eisenmann exhaust, xenon lights, fully painted bumpers, shadowline trim, m-sport everything, av jacks for the back seats and a tv button, rear sun blinds on the rear doors and back window, original music player with navigation and it is painted in arctic silver. It also has a full service history and is 100% original exept the alpina bits and eisenmann exhaust. The seller wants somewhere between 19000€ and 21000€, is it a good purchase if i go for it?

    • @differentcarreview-dcr
      @differentcarreview-dcr  Před 7 lety +2

      yes exactly, the older one without the vanos system has the mechanic accelerator

    • @danthedobermann
      @danthedobermann Před 7 lety

      The older one being the 4.0 litre?? It has the Nicosil bore wear issue, which is why, in March 1996, BMW changed the displacement to 4.4, discontinued using the Nicosil bore coating, and changed to Alusil bore coating. Buy the 4.0 version at your peril.

  • @kristjano123

    • @differentcarreview-dcr
      @differentcarreview-dcr  Před 7 lety

      It has a very good performance, however, it also has 2 turbos and 8 injectors, so the maintance can be more expensive-mainly if the car is not in perfect condition. The 730d is more reliable.

    Why do you recommend only 730d and not 740d?

    • @differentcarreview-dcr
      @differentcarreview-dcr  Před 6 lety +4

      because the 740d has 2 turbochargers and 8 injectors, so it's more complicated then the 730d and it's more expensive to repair if these things fail

    @mariusremz1500 Před 7 lety

    Any advice on someone who wants to pick up a 728i to daily? I had an E36 before as my daily but did have some oil leaks and emissions problems at the time of the inspection so had to sell it (think had only 90k miles on and had mostly BMW service history). My only worry is... is it reliable? and if anything ever goes wrong can I fix it myself? Thanks

    • @differentcarreview-dcr
      @differentcarreview-dcr  Před 7 lety +1

      Actually choosing a 728i as a daily is a good idea, because it has good fuel consumption and it's also reliable enough. However the car itself is not very powerful with this engine, but if you don't need more power, then it's definitely a good choice. You can find plenty of manuals and information about this engine-its common in the 5 series E39 too, so you should be able to fix things on it with no problem.

      first of all it's not very powerful compared to the other engines which were availabe in this car, but if you don't need extra power then it's ok
      the next issue is, that it can have more often problem with cracked cylinder head-mainly if the previous owner treated the car like shit
      all in all, if you can find a well maintaned example from a normal owner, and if you don't need more power then you can choose this engine
