Technical details:
The light-up MIDI controller is called LUMI and was sent to me by Roli (2 units for 4 octaves). Other controllers I use in this video are the Sequential Prophet XL, Yamaha CP88, Nord Stage 2EX and Korg microKEY-61.
My DAW is Cubase. I use a variety of plugins for the sounds - Spectrasonics Keyscape, Steinberg Retrologue, Plogue Chipsounds (to name a few).
All the MIDI art is recorded live, and I don't edit the MIDI in any way (no quantization, no velocity editing, nothing). Sometimes I add a backing track to give the art some groove and context when I feel it needs it.

This deserves way more than 10k views .. it's a multidimensional and multisensorial experience when you see the sounds you're hearing being "translated" into a picture while your brain is somehow making a logical link between visual and sound.

This is insane and so genius. Is there a way to reverse engineer, to draw a midi file and then play it? have an artistic project I am really excited to translate into sound..
Thanks Helena! You can definitely draw in a piano roll and then play it back, just keep in mind that it takes a lot of work to get results that sound musical :)

Can you freestyle draw? Think of images and just get it on there. That'd be really impressive. Already extremely impressive
Can’t “freestyle” these, they take way too much planning and practice. Simple shapes and letters maybe, but not detailed drawings :)
@@GLASYS I'm sure if you practiced long enough starting off with simple shapes and letters and whatever and spending some years building up slowly until your muscle memory can do whatever you want. It'd take years
@@antisolcial who knows - maybe some kid one day will practice MIDI drawing from the age of 3 and be able to create them on the fly. I can tell you from my experience though that given the amount of planning/revising/practicing I have to do in order to pull off something like the Dragon Quest logo, there's no way I'd be able to "freestyle" something like that in my lifetime. :)
@@GLASYS You can learn the alphabet and then get a booth at Disneyland or somewhere wherein customers tell you their names and you create the MIDI art before their eyes. Then you make a printout, frame it, and sell it to them.
