3 years ago my best friend and his wife died beside each other on their couch. They overdosed on heroin laced with lethal amounts of fentanyl. This was one his favorite staind songs when we were kids. Now, it has an entirely new meaning. And id be lying if I said this song didn't just kick me in the balls in a way it never did before.......Miss you brother..... RIP Brian

I’ve known several people by name that know me by name that have been addicted to heroin, brother here in Ohio, everybody knows someone who’s been on heroin before. It’s a tough ride whether an addict or if the addict is a very close friend. Sorry for the loss man.

It sounds more like someone that is mentally unstable, who over the course of the album, became more depressed and hit full rock bottom by the end of it. He turns to heroin to ease his pain (Feel the joy as the needle hits my vein
) and contain the dark thoughts inside his head (cut your silken flesh / stomp your head). The next line (Smell the stench as shit runs down my leg
), might be an indication of him nodding off and not caring enough to go to the bathroom anymore. The line (When will I be dead?
) and the gunshot at the end sum everything up.
Every time I come back to this song I'm in a different chapter in my life it seems. And yet every time I listen to it it feels like I've just discovered it. This song bores into your head unlike anything you ever listened to for some reason and with the strum of one guitar note it just sends you back into the worst days of your life. I Wish I could just show someone just anyone and have them understand how we feel. This song is extremely underrated and truly fascinating. Props to Mike and Aaron.

The song Come Again was on the singles album. There were 2 versions of the album. The Singles (which had Come Again) and The Singles 1996-2006 (which didn’t have it) and they removed the one with Come Again on it from every streaming service (CZcams, Spotify, etc) I don’t know why they did it though😂

patrick grondines Not going to lie, the audio on the gunshot is louder on purpose.
The beginning of the album starts with when he cocks the gun and then the album plays and then finally the shot at the end.
Especially when you have earbuds turned all the way up.
This gunshot leads into the hidden track, “Funeral”, which is 19 minutes long and on the CD begins after 8 minutes of silence after the gunshot that ends “4 Walls”.
I've gone to more staind concerts than any other show. Saw them 6 times the year break the cycle came out and they were playing alot of accoustic versions of thier music. I've stood in the front row at very small venues. (House of blues chicago) we screamed every time for them to play this. Every concert this song is requested by many fans. The reactions I've witnessed are: Aaron shakes his head like he doesn't know the song. Or is just outright refusing. Or they act like they are ignoring us. I've also heard that they are not allowed to play this. Like they are not allowed to acknowledge this track. Either thier label forbids them or there are other legal issues preventing them. That being said. this truly makes this song a hidden gem. I'm just thankful it got released in the first place. This song is the holy grail for me. The fact that I've been able to turn this on over the decades when life turns to shit, and I think theres nothing left for me... the bass line hits and its enough to make it a little further.

In responding to someone here, I realized that a huge bulk of songs on Tormented deal with love issues between the individual (who commits suicide) and a woman (maybe his current or ex girlfriend). In Self Destruct there is a reference to (Lost my feelings with my dealings / Thoughts of only *you* remains). That *you* might well be the woman I was speaking about and it's during Self Destruct that the invidual starts using heroin (Feel the needle burn and tingle
/ My bad habits deal with it). His heroin use feels like a last resort to help himself ease the emotional burden, which continues into Four Walls. The line (cut your silken flesh) may be another reference to this woman (well, usually women have smooth skin lol) and the mental state he is in (she definetly caused him a lot of pain). Then, if we take a look at Mudshuvel, that song is clearly about cheating, which might be one of the big reasons why he hates her and why he down spiralled into the mess he became by the end of the album. As a concept album, it feels like every song builds and builds more misery on this individual, until he commits suicide at the end.
That's why I really like to listen to this album from beginning to end. It tells a story.
Critics called the album a concept album following that story
Their best song. So early in their career and they had already hit their apex.
I think Break The Cycle is the apex album, this is second best.
This song is a glimpse into the greatness that is Staind!!!

Moved out of my parents' house for the first time into my own apartment a few months ago. Parents, sister, friend, family, doctors, therapist all said I'd feel better living on my own. But I don't feel even the smallest bit better. If anything I feel worse. The walls are different but nothing has changed. Still miserable. Still want to die every day. Still desperately want to hurt myself because of how much I can't stand myself. I want things to be different. I've tried to make things different. I've spent my entire life trying to be as happy as everybody else is but in the end all my efforts just make things worse. I grow more miserable with every passing day. If it weren't for her I would rid myself and this world of my revolting presence. I really should anyway, she can't stand even the thought of me. But neither can I.

4 Walls is one of my favourites from Staind's Tormented album.
I like to listen to this album while driving 70+ mph down back roads at night. Or when I’m alone in bed. Usually thinking some pretty fucked up thoughts before I listen to the album, and I’m usually fine afterwards. I guess it’s just so relatable.

Fun fact: Aaron Lewis did NOT write this song. If you look in the tormented album booklet, Michael Mushok is credited for the lyrics, not Aaron. Every other song credits Aaron for the lyrics.

I used to be depressed. Now I'm starting to find my way in life. I still struggle a bit but I don't think I'm depressed anymore.
Too late...
For me, listening to this while depressed was a great catharsis. Mainly because self harm and suicide were never an option for me, it worked as an outlet. It worked for me, but I understand that it might not for others

It’s like you have depression, then you get the best high to deal with that depression, then the high stops working so you do it to not get sick - essentially doubling the misery. I know that this comment is from 9 years ago but I really hope you still haven’t experienced it.

Whats so wrong about this song? The world can’t acknowledge pain and suffering from feeling alone, isolated. Try to reach out to the world for something better, something good. But in return we just get more pain.
The world… the elite of the world are the ones that build into this pain. Squeezing people into debt, unable to leave this miserable hell, and even causing it themselves. How many lifes have been taken at the hands of cops, at the hands of world leaders. Just look how wealth gets stripped out from under you as things have been recently. The elite cause it for their greed.
They make the rules, the laws, and push their agendas at any costs.
And that leaves us trapped in the same 4 walls with these thoughts.

Just like what Kevin Lundin said, NO 1 I know knows about this album even though it's one of the best period. All it takes is checking CZcams or other sites about your favorite band and it will lead you to awesome new things.
