I just want to thank you for showing me how this works. I had one in the garage and after two days of trying snaking, plunging, baking soda-vinegar treatments in every opening I could find, I tried looking on CZcams for a new idea. And there you were. Thank you!!
Saw this video yesterday. Today sewer drain is clear. Literally less than 10 minutes and the blockage was gone. Water rushed thru the pipe as soon as I turned the water off and the bladder was deflated. Got the bladder from Harbor Freight for $8. Thank you for this video. Saved me time and money.
Praise Jesus. It worked 💪. I bought a drain bladder from a local hardware store. Returned home to insert the bladder into sewer pipe. It worked. The most difficult part was ensuring the bladder is routed toward the sewer instead of back into the house
Thank you. This was one of videos I looked at. Worked like a charm. Some company came in and tried to convince me to spend 4700K to fix the problem that they thought it might be. I went to home depot and bought a better hose, a bladder and a high pressure nozzle. Problem solved for under 50 bucks.
Works so good! 5 minutes and my line was clear! Great video brother, saved me a lot of time and money. I made sure my hose connection was bomb proof (wouldn't rip off when I pulled the deflated bladder out) and used a high quality hose (the only kind I buy). Don't listen to the nay sayers, use common sense and make sure your connection to the bladder is secure. This is a damn good solution.
I appreciate it so much that you still showed respect to plumbers all service people careers are very difficult, I read some comments when people call them rip-off Very disrespectful. Remember you pay for the knowledge ,tools, and business expenses . Good work sir sharing good tip
I certainly agree, and should have made that clearer. The plumbers, electricians roofers, mechanics yardmen A/C repair people etc are "salt of the earth" people who have skill sets, integrity and professionalism 2nd to none as a group.
Belated January 2018., I tried some of the standard cleaning procedure but I found that the water bladder drain device so far does the job. Thank you for providing you demonstration video. I was a property manager in SD CA and I was not aware of this device nor were the owners of several properties. The things we could/can learn from Utube., Bruce.
Thank you this is exactly what I was looking for. The other great thing about this is if there is a major blockage you can see that the water will not pass through which would show if you have a bigger issue.
Of course it happened just before a party. We had a dozen family members staying at our home for Christmas holidays... what a pain in the... Thanks for the video.
This definitely works! My wife's grandfather gave me one to add to my toolset and I"m glad he did. I didn't have time to get a snake so this worked well!
When it didn’t work the first time, I used the same trick I use on my clogged toilets of pouring dishwasher soap in large amounts along with the bladder. It worked. I used the bladder for only seconds on both tries. Has been clear and unclogged for days. No need to wait 5 to 15 minutes. After it’s clear, it’s clear.
Where did you pour the soap in? If the system was completely clogged Im wondering how the soap made it from the toilet to the part of the drain pipe beyond the bladder?? One could use an attachment to the hose like you would do with a house washer and that would flush the soap into the blocked pipe through the bladder. You would need to have another segment of hose that would incorporate the container designed for this purpose.
Thank you so much Mark. Me and my husband have the exact same problem except our pipe obstruction is due to a tree. LOL Fina go buy the drain pipe cleaner right now.
I had to use this same product today to unclog my sewer line. If fought it for a couple of hours thinking the heavy duty garden hose was good enough. I keep getting to the point In the line were the hose wasn't strong enough to keep going so I had to borrow a farm grade red hose like the one in this video. I was able to get it way further, and I let it run 20 minutes, relieved the pressure and it cleared it. I am definitely going to invest in a farm grade hose, and a back up bladder.
Just tried this device on a chronic problem, a kitchen sink drain that takes right angle bends as it enters a slab. No cleanouts, impossible to snake. Worked very well, plan to use it every few months.
I have the rubber bladder and have been successful in clearing blockages in the 4 in sewer line every single time. Saves me $425.00 each time that I don't have to resort to calling my friend whose a plumber.
After using chemicals and renting a 50' drain cleaner which did not work, I bought 4" bladder from hd. Hooked it up, let it work for 20 minutes, shut off water, pulled bladder up, drain cleared! Thanks so much!
Looks like a good tool. I have an old house and the pipe to the septic from the house needs to be snaked every other year. Plumber thinks there is a bend similar to yours. I'm thinking of using the bladder in the tub drain - where I suspect the issue is. Do you know if using it in a tub drain is complicated?
Wow, 1st of ALL THANK YOU FOR YOUR VIDEO, man I I had worst time with my toilet, bath tub and sinks, if I flushed my toilet it came up in my bath tub. I rent a house in knox, tenn. I rent from a slum lord, but thats ok, I like to fix things, so any ways, I got a 25' snake, didn't work, I got(purchased) a 50' snake, that didn't fix the problem, so I purchased a brand new toilet, all the purchases was with my own money,( thats why you were God sent to me) the toilet was not new but still didn't flush, I didn't have $500 for a plumber, but something had to give, I, my mother(75yr old) and my niece live in the house I rent, I was going to sell my 26 yr old Ford ranger that gets me to work to hire a plumber we been living with this for over a year now, we used bottles and a 5 gallon bucket for our duties. Our waste had to go somewhere, so. Thank you. Tracy, I have read your response many times and it has inspired me to share as much practical knowledge as possible with people and I plan on a series of videos to help patients avoid being ripped off by the health care system As A Physician I have seen the special interest groups and politicians abuse their positions of power too long at the expense especially of patients but also of front line Doctors and Nurses who suffer in silence with all their unnecessary burdens . I have benefitted in untold ways from other CZcams posters. And as a person with deep Faith, The Lord and the Holy Spirit and so man
That would be a different scenario but you can still save yourself some money. One time I had a cast iron pipe, had to pull out the toilet tried the drain bladder but it didn't work at the beginning but I ran an auger and then I used the drain bladder until it worked got the line clear. This bladder drain it is made for minor blockages if it is a manor clogged one can get it clear in a matter of minutes, otherwise one needs to run a sewer drain cleaning machine which can be rent from Home Depot and still save oneself some money at least half of what a plumbing company would it charge you
cool demonstration, but i have a question, why not use an inline style nozzel set on the narrow stream and feed that down and turn it on? has anyone tried that?
Got the same problem, every month almost like clock work I get the clog. Except mine clogs between the clean out stack and the house so using this I would need to be very careful and watch it so the clog doesn't get shoved up into the shower.
You are right. It seems a plumber would be a reasonable option since access to blocked area shouldn't be as difficult as external pipes under a driveway as is my situation...but hey, if you've got it figured out great!
Good demo. Thanks! I was wondering if you were about to sacrifice your phone to get the shot near the end where you seemed to stick it down the pipe. ;-)
All it does is pressurize the pipe if it's a paper clog it might move it but it won't get roots out of sewer or get grease and sludge or tampon clogs out it's a gamble of a temporary fix at best after blowing open if you don't go in with blades or a jetter the clog will be right back
I just get scared that it’s going to blow the pipe off lol idk if that can happen with so much pressure but going to try and have my hopes up and give it a try on the kitchen sink that has rice grains stuck in there
That is a reasonable concern, but the pressure generated by the bladder cannot exceed the water pressure within any closed pipes within your home. If you have a weak connection outside of your home AND a blockage beyond that weak spot, you must have it fixed. The ideal solution for any recurrent drainage problem is to consult a plumber, the professional who can solve the problem permanently.
I tried it on blocked gutter but it didn't work because the gutter was half filled up with dense roots. It doesn't work under those conditions which are likely to be much more common in those kind of drainage systems unless the problem is a soft blockage with leaves. I don't think it would hurt to try it though. I had to remove and replace gutter down spout because the roots were so dense. Also as many landscape drainage systems usecorregated plastic rather than PVC they are more likely to rupture with the bladder. You might try hand crank augur if blockage is near opening
It depends on how much pressure is needed. I tried it without success on my downspout.Roots had grown into it. However it did work on the underground drain from my water fountain.
When I did this procedure, the bladder came off and was stuck in the pipe. I tried again with a second bladder but it too came off the hose. It did unclog the pipe and both bladders are gone down the drain. Has this happened to you ? Could it have been 2 defective bladders or did I do something wrong?
Cynthia Roberts you didn'ttigjten the bladder and you were twisting it so it came off next time tie a rope but I would avoid using this as it can get stuck and potentially make it a pipe repair instead in other words get a plumber to do it they don't even use this cus of the same reason
There's a max PSI these bladders have which is on the package. You should test your water pressure with a $10 gauge from the hardware store to make sure it's not too high.
I would assume so because the flushing action is away from the house. Also It would be my guess that most homes have just one outlet which is my situation.
To Mark Berry: To Rob Truth: It's good to try the inexpensive things first, like this bladder and a hose -- outside of the house. Question: Would this be not such a good idea if the clean-out pipes were located inside the house? This would mess up the basement or crawl space.
I would just use on outside cleanup pipe valve located closest to the house. The hose will feed on a curved arc away from your house assuring you that all flushed contents will go to main drainage system away from your home. Inside pipes could potentially expel the contents in any direction.
Georgia, but I'm partial to all Southern accents! My wife speaks with a crystal clear Midwestern accent, so I can't pretend I didn't hear her. Of course I try to like all of the people in our great country and long for the day when we will pull together to save her...and I have confidence that will happen.
Not likely.. When a downspout is clogged in my experience its usually packed with roots requiring manual extraction by any means at hand. I have actually had to cut off the impacted segment and replace it. As the downspout is thin, the water pressure could damage pipe.
I work as a plumbing technician. This does not solve the problem and remove the roots, it creates backpressure and pushes out any soft blockage that may have hooked on to the roots. Its an excellent toop, especially on a budget, but is simply a bandaid.
The pulsations forced into he pipe intermittently compress pockets of air in the pipe and the sound resonates in accordance with the wave length of the air waves and the turbulence generated by the irregular directional bursts of the water jets! Heck I have no idea, but I hear what you hear and laugh it off.
Wow that's smart. That would give you instant feed back. Also I would be interested if the pressure you recorded before the blockage was removed was the same as, less than or more than the pressure recorded at the outdoor spigot. Recently a viewer expressed concern that the pressure generated by the bladder might rupture the blocked pipe. As the bladder is a passive system that does not use additional force generated by an electrical or hydraulic pump attachment, my best guess based on the conservation of energy principle would be that the pressure distal to the bladder attachment could not exceed pressure from spigot.
@@charlesberry2662 Yep, that's exactly the idea. The pressure was around 22 psig, when I did my control trial in a 1 ft long empty pipe. Just enough to support the bladder like it is in a real drain pipe, but with its outflow leading to open air. With the blockage, the pressure in the feedback gauge was around 30 to 35 psig. Once the blockage was removed, it reduced to 25 psig. The static pressure in my water system is 40 psig, when all fixture valves are closed. Since there is a change in diameter of the stream as it moves thru this bladder, the pressure you measure with the gauge upstream, will not be the same as the pressure after the bladder. The Bernoulli equation will trade pressure for velocity, plus there is frictional loss. So this bladder will not expose your drain plumbing to pressures beyond their 30 psig rated limit.
@@charlesberry2662 Another thing that helped, was equipping the fittings with a valve, before the T-fitting and pressure gauge, so I could instantly turn it on and off. This also enabled me to pulsate the flow, which helped clear the blockage. Somehow, the pressure increasing and decreasing in cycles, helped clear it much better than a steady pressure of the maximum my system could deliver.
This isn't always a solution for a main sewer problem. And there are other things to consider before using a blow-bag (which is the correct term) in your main, sometimes you can't use a blow-bag. You can get yourself in deep shit (pun intended) if you don't know what your doing. You know you have a "belly" in your line and you know where it is. You have to know your sewer lay out, where your drains tie into your sewer. Just call a plumber, keep your day job, and let me do my job.
correct. if they are minimal, have been ground out and one uses copper herbicide you might get more mileage, but you really need that fixed by a plumber IMHO
Be very careful with this drain bladder I had 2 of them explode in my main sewer line under the house, by the grace of god I was able to clear them after renting a rooter machine.
Thank you for that warning. I would never use them within the boundaries of the home. When they exploded it sounds like parts of the rubber tore away from the bladder structure. Wow. If the drain popped like a balloon it should have all still been attached to hose and be pulled out intact.
1st of all he says to keep feeding the hose for as long it will go, he doesnt do that, you dont leave it for 10 min not neccessary more like 1 to 3 min running hes off
In subsequent times I fed the hose in just far enough to clear the y junction and it worked. One time however it didn't, so I advanced the hose until ti stopped (around 75 yards) and then it did work.
Sounds like you have a belly in your line. I wouldnt wait every 6 months I would hit it every qtr if you know it stops up every 6 months. Why dont you just get a spot repair instead of a whole line replacement? Go through your electric company or home insurance wait a few months then just pay your deductible. 🙌🙌🙌
WOuld insurance pay for a 25 year home with this problem? Mu spot is under my concrete driveway. You are right about the belly; my plumber diagnosed that with a scope.
A belly is a segment of pipe that sags below the flat plane of the pipe allowing debris to be trapped in the sagged area which then act as a nidus to allow other flushed material to attach to it, eventually clogging the line.
I can understand why, and I addressed that issue by saying this was a temporary solution and that a plumber as a pro would fix the problem permanently. I respect their professionalism and integrity.
I just want to thank you for showing me how this works. I had one in the garage and after two days of trying snaking, plunging, baking soda-vinegar treatments in every opening I could find, I tried looking on CZcams for a new idea. And there you were. Thank you!!

Nice tip on handling a clog in a dipped septic or sewer pipe. The manufacturer should add a jetting nozzle to the outbound end of the tool.

I equipped mine with a T-fitting and a pressure gauge, so that I could see the pressure drop when the blockage was removed.
You don't want to get your hands wet!
Good video, but you should of done it on real blocked drain to see it in action.
good point; next time it blocks up, which it inevitably will, Ill add that addendum.
Ours exploded, now what!
Just call a plumber, keep your day job, and let me do my job.
beamer1974 Call the plumber one time, watch him, take notes and do it yourself for the next time you need to flush out your plumbing.
One of the 87 plumbers who thumbed down the "do-it-yourself" video
you could have turned the air conditioners off during your demonstration.
Yes he could have and you could have not made a dumb comment about it. I don't need audio to figure out the tutorial, did you?
@@jasontx1274 I am vision impaired so the audio would have helped.
sorry, I noticed that after video completed and actually mentioned that but was too lazy to repeat video!
This device won’t get tree roots out of you line
It won't, but it sure helps a lot.
duh
correct. if they are minimal, have been ground out and one uses copper herbicide
you might get more mileage, but you really need that fixed by a plumber IMHO
Be very careful with this drain bladder I had 2 of them explode in my main sewer line under the house, by the grace of god I was able to clear them after renting a rooter machine.
Thank you for that warning. I would never use them within the boundaries of the home. When they exploded it sounds like parts of the rubber tore away from the bladder structure. Wow. If the drain popped like a balloon it should have all still been attached to hose and be pulled out intact.
@@charlesberry2662 The front completely blew off twice, I assume something was blocking the hole.
1st of all he says to keep feeding the hose for as long it will go, he doesnt do that, you dont leave it for 10 min not neccessary more like 1 to 3 min running hes off
First of all, learn how to type. Its a good video. Get over it.
@@jasontx1274 phuck u no its not, you wouldn't talk to me that way in person I guarantee that
In subsequent times I fed the hose in just far enough to clear the y junction and it worked.
great idea; what is a belly?
WOuld insurance pay for a 25 year home with this problem? Mu spot is under my concrete driveway. You are right about the belly; my plumber diagnosed that with a scope.
A belly is a segment of pipe that sags below the flat plane of the pipe allowing debris to be trapped in the sagged area which then act as a nidus to allow other flushed material to attach to it, eventually clogging the line.
Wait for it to explode
Did it explode?
87 Plumbers and counting thumbing down a simple video to save a lot of money.
I can understand why, and I addressed that issue by saying this was a temporary solution and that a plumber as a pro would fix the problem permanently. I respect their professionalism and integrity.
why does it fart like that ? asking for my blonde girlfriend ?
It does that when I do it but only sometimes. Don't understand why either.
How did that work for you!!
