If the tube material is fabric, “O” shaped tubes are required but if the tubes a metal, “D” shaped tubes offer more interior space. Filling the interior of the tubes with non water absorbing foam like Boston Whaler uses is the key to a safe passage home regardless of the mission.

The welding technique is the same as we’ve used on our HDPE barge/narrow boat. Those welds are super strong.

In my childhood I thought that boat is inflated using air and I was worried maybe a sharp rock or a needle fish can punture it.
Are those welds as strong as the base material? Is the weld placed on top of the gap or in a trench in between segments?
