I legitimately love what they've done with Barret. His speech makes you understand why AVALANCHE follows him so closely. Because he's a damn good leader, and he motivates them. He's not just loud brash asshole; he's legitimately telling these people that he's here for them. It's wonderful. SO much more characterization.
I never really liked Barret in the original. Now, I think he might be my favorite character. They did a great job bringing him to life.
I also love that they didn't make him into an overly serious figure and kept some of his crude, goofy charm from the original. The elevator speech comes off as part political thesis, part pro-wrestling promo.
Seriously. I thought he was kind of underrated to begin with (obviously playing into some stereotypes didn't really help), but this delivery just really makes his character seem dynamic and three-dimensional. Believable, even. And they managed it without sacrificing his cheesy speech patterns. He's just a super appealing character.
Reminds me of Trump.
In the original game Barret was much closer to cool in the way Solid Snake was, but the English translation really leaned into the whole Mr. T thing. This take is way closer to what Barret was supposed to be but takes some characteristics of the translation too. It's interesting.
This is the only FF7R playthrough that matters

When Sepheroth says “Hold on to your hatred” i just realized later on in the game Barret says the same thing to Tifa and Cloud shudders.
I think he says anger, but yeah.

Aerith giving the flower that “symbolizes lovers being reunited” to Cloud, who think his life is Zack’s life and uses Zack’s sword. Zack being the first person the Aerith ever loved. Almost as if Aerith recognizes Zack in Cloud. That is some solid writing.

And not to mention this isn't exactly the real world. Armed to the teeth mercenaries would be a pretty common thing in a world where giant man eating monsters can just waltz into town. Even if that's mainly the slums, mercs probably come up to do some shopping every now and then.

No cap, he is a brilliant world building addition to the game, he's the first person to challenge Barrett's black and white world view and offers the first grounded real life look into the people that make up Shinra beyond the evil executives. I legit hope he shows up in part 2, maybe Tifa entrusting him with helping the people on the train will motivate him to re-examine how Shinra operates and he ends up working with Reeve to try to change things from the inside

One of the seemingly small, but vast details that I've loved about the remake, is the seamless change of the music when engaging in combat and then coming back out of combat. They have alternate versions of the same area's theme perfectly switching between each other in and out of battle. It's beautiful.
Agreed the music is definitely one of the best aspects of the game.
There's one section in wall market in one of the side missions where you first hear the normal overworld theme then it transitions when you see you someone you're fighting before you fight them or interact to the theme associated with them and it's one of the best usages of the music so far
They definitely took a page out of nier automata in that regard.

Sephiroth is a confirmed height of 6'1 whilst Cloud is at an average height of 5'7 making it seem like Sephiroth absolutely TOWERS over everything. Which in Clouds POV he definitely does.

That part was dope, when I was playing it. I like they added them to Barret and use it as an emotional device. Sometimes he has them on majority through the night and he'll usually take them off for a reason or emphasis on something. Just the little things that all add up I guess
Moon Moon that’s how special FFVII is. People who don’t play Final Fantasy games love this game. Including me.
I've never played FF7 before, and have never really been into most JRPGs at all and have no personal investment in the series of the remake.

I’m in the exact same boat. Haven’t played a single Final Fantasy game in my entire lifespan and the closest thing I have played and beaten is Legend of Dragoon on PS and just watching this is making me want to play it myself. Pretty sure even if I’m not a huge fan of RPGs that this is a must buy.

Here's the thing about Max, he hated RPGs "those games are for NERDS, I'M GONNA PLAY COOL GAMES LIKE KILLER INSTINCT AND STREET FIGHTER!!" then a friend showed him the original FF7, and he was hooked, because it had removed itself from the medieval fantasy setting. The original FF7 was the RPG to make you want to play an RPG and the remake rekindled that same passion now.
So.... that theme playing after meeting Sephiroth... did anyone else catch that that song is from Advent Children? It's called "The Promised Land" and wasn't in the original game. Also, it was one of my favorite parts of Advent Children.

It's also a variation of "Those Chosen By The Planet" from the original, which was Sephiroth's "theme" from the original (One-Winged Angel is basically just his battle theme).
One thing I love about this game is that the developers actually took the time to match the lip movement with the corresponding language. I played it with Japanese voices and the lipsync was perfect then and now, watching a playthrough in English and seeing the lipsync perfectly match the English voices as well is really something.

Seeing Max so emotional as the opening credits roll, and as he plays the opening sequence... I wish I loved anything half as much as Max loves this game. Half my life is already done, and odds are I never will; but knowing this kind of passion and gratitude exists in somebody else is nice to see. I think that's why I watch, actually. It's a rare thing to connect that deeply with anything really, a practice, a person, a hobby, and we're also lucky to get to witness it. Thanks for sharing, Max.

I guess we were just lucky to have been able to enjoy this game in the most formative years of our lives. I spent countless hours playing the original growing up, and it has had a special place in my heart ever since. The fact that I get to experience this remake is just like... wow, beyond amazing to me.

@@kingdavey87 I'm 38years old and even I was in tears when this was announced at e3. Ff7 has a huge part in my heart, and it'll always be my #1 game in history. I remember when I was a teen my dad and I used to stay up really late and go into the family room and spend hours playing ff7. Great times. I was sad when the game ended.

Though it was Avalanche that planted the bomb, Shinra caused the explosion to be much bigger than it was (The robots were shooting the reactor), thus allowing the public to see Avalanche more as a threat to the public than an enemy. Some well-played propaganda by the true villains ;w;

Yes, damage the reactor enough to shut it down, but try not to cause an unnecessary collateral damage. Of course, they know that this will likely get messy and collateral damage is unavoidable, but they prefer to keep it to a minimum. Thanks to Shina, that ended up going out the window.

When this game was first launched, I was 14yo. I've waited 23 YEARS for this, and It's a weird thing to be 37 now and find such an amazing feeling about something that is supposed to be for people far younger than I am... but I really don't mind. I've waited this for so long that it's hard as shit to believe this is real and not come to tears. In my opinion, this is the best video-game of all time, and to see it again so diferent, yet so familiar... gosh, can't even explain... I know how Max felt playing it, can tell you all that. Let's go!

I'm 34 and I remember asking my parents for this for my birthday. When I finally got it, I was blown away with it being 3 discs long. It's such an awesome feeling playing this game. When the first time I heard the remixed battle theme, it gave me goosebumps.
I played in 1997, the shit they are pulling right now is greed, and that really hurts my soul, and makes me hate square enix now. "remake" my ass pretty sure when they first released it all three disks were there. 50+ hours in the slums sucks balls, and so does waiting 2 years for the next part to come out, then who fucking knows how long for the third, oh and also $180 in ten years to FINALLY play the whole game. How fucking greedy.....

I feel you dude. At first when I started playing it I was like meh, cause it wasn't exactly like the original. But after 5 hours in, man i am so happy and overjoyed with the game. Everyone needs to experience this game and really get to know and understand the story. Its absolutely fabulous.

That's precisely what I was thinking upon replay/rewatching this scene.
Doubt it. If I remember correctly, Kunsel is a SOLDIER 2nd Class, not a lowly Shinra Officer. This might be the Officer that trained with Cloud during their time together when he was still an Officer or he could be one of the few members of Zack's Fan Club that was made after the Genesis Incident that disbanded after the Nibleheim Incident when everyone thought Zack and Cloud died in; that's probably why he'd recognize the Buster Sword since one of the Fan Club's Perks is getting memorabilia of the SOLDIER they are following. Sephiroth's Fan Club gave its members a replica model of his Masamune. I wonder if Kunsel got promoted to 1st Class after Crisis Core. Besides neither Reno or Rude recognizes Cloud's Buster Sword during their encounters especially that it is one of a kind and spending a lot of time together while Zack was part of Shinra.
@@StarscreamSigma gosh, you're right. I totally forgot that Kunsel was in SOLDIER with Zack at the time. I forgot to mention that you later on encounter that same infantryman during the Shinra rescue mission and mentions that he'll get Kunsel. He's more than likely 1st class now, but the real question is: since it's assumed he's still Shinra's loyal lap dog, I wonder if you have to fight Kunsel later on in the next FF7R game...or will he resign as SOLDIER and join Cloud and co.? Either way, there's so much up for discussion regarding this side story, imo.

Did Sephiroth just drop Zack's last words on Cloud right there? It's been a while since I played that part of the original game (or it's counterpart in FF7 Crisis Core). So I don't recall the words exactly. But am I just crazy? Cause if those were Zack's final words, I'm loving what they're doing there; getting into Cloud's head.

dude, i cried. im a 35 year old grown ass man..and when i heard the intro doo doo doo, i became a kid again. then after playing awhiloe i stopped. areith dying was traumatic as a kid, now we have a hd with voice acting...i aint ready for that man.

Whenever I feel down, and I have been for the last 5 month after a serious nervous breakdown, I always come back to Max playthrough. The joy he feels comes right through the screen and makes me feel better instantly.

My uncle talked about FF7 all the time when I was younger and how much he loved this one in particular. Needless to say I got addicted to it. Watching the Sephiroth fight scene over and over again on psx. I remember there was a anime that was based off Zack’s story and I got invested in that. Not to mention the movie that came out 2004 that still looks great till this day. I bought a $70 cloud action figure at a anime convention. I don’t know where I’m going with this, all I know is that this I love FF7.

Back then I always interpreted that scene as Sephiroth taunting Cloud by paraphrasing Zack's dying words and Cloud somehow remembering Zack no problem in that moment. After all, Cloud somehow remembers killing Sephiroth when he's not supposed to know what happens after confronting Sephiroth in Jenova's chamber.

@@ArcherWillows end of the game they’re in Aerith’s house. It’s implied that she, Wedge and Biggs all survived but were in critical condition. And because of spoilers at the end of the game, they’re likely to stay alive and join us again in the second chapter
Every few months I come back to this playthrough and watch it all the way through just to re-experience Max's unadulterated happiness.
This game made me travel back in time. Playing this remake evoked all the same feelings and more that I felt when I played the original game over 20 years ago. I've been saying the same as your title "I've been waiting over 15 years for this game." whenever someone asked why I was so hyped about FFVII:R finally releasing.
It is mesmerizing the care with details that the dev team had with this game, in all its tiny details recreating scenes from the original, on fleshing out the world with small things like posters and objects in the background that tells a small story on its own, with how expressive the characters are and how they interact with each other, the delicious dynamic music and nuances to other themes.
I see some people complaining about how the game has "too much filler" with side missions and other chunks of main story in between the portions from the original, but I am loving every second of them. Expanding Midgar and its characters was the best thing they could've ever done, and I'm thankful to the team for the passion behind this project.
I'm 11 hours into the game at Chapter 8, and it is magical. Much like Max, I sometimes stop and look around the background so masterfully crafted, with my jaw dropping. Then I take a deep breath of satisfaction and thank the Lifestream that I'm alive to play this game. Makes me forget about this whole real world crisis. Whenever I see Max stopping to admire the beauty of the game, I feel the same, because I'm doing that as well to savor every single moment.
Final Fantasy VII changed my life 20 years ago, and it changed again with this remake.
I dont see any thing that was added to the story as filler, theyre genuinely fleshing out the story more and its world more. Its amazing to see so much more going on within its world through even some of the smallest details theyve added
Its good to see people appreciating this game. Theres so many people complaining and hating on this game, even so called “fans”. Ugh it is my hope that “fans” dont ruin possible future remakes or spinoffs from ff7 due to a difficult fandom.

I'm playing FF7R with Japanese voice and Korean subtitles. As a person who speaks Korean, Japanese and English, I am enjoying an amazing narrative experience since every language has distinctive tones. I am so happy and can't get enough of it watching your video after I finished the chapters.
Can I just say that this game has some of the most satisfying combat? Not necessarily for the depth, but for the momentum. I can do a meaty ass combo into a finisher with cloud, and instead of waiting for his recovery frames to finish I can immediately switch to barret and do some thunder magic into another finisher, and then switch to tifa to do EVEN MORE crazy shit. The way you can smoothly transition from character to character and keep the flow of combat going is so addicting. Square, ya did good.
It is extremely satisfying. The depth will get there for sure. Maybe not in this game but as they expand that's when the tactics will be more in play
I do wish the AI was a little better though. There's a whole layer of strategy here that is kinda hampered by the enemies almost always targeting whoever you are controlling, even just after you switched characters.
I just wanna point out they made Tifa STUPID BROKEN with combos and staggering...and I wouldn't have it any other way.

@@Darkoriax17 I fucking love her so much. I love how unique and awesome every character's skillset and playstyle is, but Tifa is my favourite to play as. Building her chi level, pressuring like crazy then unleashing those 🔺️ attacks in succession to build the stagger percentage is SO satisfying. She's just awesome.

28 days remaining we are almost there just hang on the day is almost here there’s a state of play on February 6th featuring FF7 rebirth stuff most likely the demo is going to be in there I’m replaying FF7 Remake again on hard mode to get prepared for FF7 Rebirth and I’m close to getting it platinum trophy man can’t wait till rebirth we are almost there!! 😊
The one thing I will say about this game is that the choice in music is always spot on. Shinra's theme playing as you're walking the aftermath of the reactor blowing up? It fits the mood.... but makes so much sense once you realize all of this is AVALANCHE playing into Shinra's hands.
The FACT they plucked a song from Advent Children for this goes to show Nobuo was not messing around on that OST

For all we know, he'll probably be fine with it and will actually welcome the change cuz it's something new to the story, and I'll admit, I'm curious how they're gonna go with it moving forward to the next part of the game.

When “The Promised Land” starts playing after the Sephiroth scene, it was like everything hitting me at once. Knowing what these people have gone through and what they have yet to go through.
Still blows my mind how Square absolutely nailed the voice casting. This is what these people sounded like to me as a kid 20 years ago. To hear them all finally speak and hearing nearly the exact same voices I imagined them having was amazing.
Jessie has more thirst for Cloud on one scene than I had for Tifa for the whole game

What makes hearing everyone's pain and suffering really adds to the game is that so many of them are looking to Shinra for help, when Shinra is LITERALLY the person responsible for this.
Like, how much damage did Jessi's bomb actually do? One day's worth of repair for a single guy? They could have had the reactor up and running again in a few days and still blamed any power outages on Avalanche. Instead they completely destroyed the reactor, killed and or wrecked the lives of dozens if not hundreds of civilians, all for what? To exert more control over people who already look to them for everything? An excuse to wreck havoc, destruction, and death upon the masses?
I never finished FF7 myself(maybe I'll rebuy the game on Switch since I can't play the remake), but I'm more excited for and invested in this story than I ever was before.
Seeing Max enjoying playing this game really brings joy to me.
