    Another great video. Here's a question for you. From all the awnings you have reviewed and owned: Which one would you choose if you could only have one? Keep the videos comin'.

      @@beaudog59 this is a question I get regularly. It would be the Westfield Lynx Travel Smart 200. It’s lightweight, quick and easy to pitch and looks great on the Basecamp. I have crafted a review of it. Follow this link:- czcams.com/video/zpkM15vK9yE/video.htmlsi=vGVBaP9Y0KqOOOMl

    Another great vlog Nick I do like the RVA2 but I just don’t trust it in the wind. I always take it down. I think there should be fixings for storm straps at the beams especially. I do fancy an RVA1 but the wife is not to keen due to its size the only thing that puts me off it is the weight.
    Look forward to your next vlog mate 👍🏻🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

      It can be trusted in the wind John providing each and every stake is secured in the ground. It all has to be correctly pitched…. However not in the storm conditions I tested it in😂. The RVA 1 will stand everything and I would use it as my winter awning but it’s big and bulky for the shorter trips I do in the winter. For the money, worth snapping one up for when the time comes. Unbelievable how cheap they go for and it’s a brilliant bit of kit.

    I’m glad to join your community, Nick 😃, really nice vlogs and such a beatuiful small trailer. I’m getting a small one to before August, I’m so looking fireard to it after some years with a motorhome. It’s not a Base camp, it’s an Adria Action but I’m sure I’ll learn a lot from your experience and vlogs 😀. Cheers from Barcelona 👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻

      Thanks for your comment and amazing to hear the vlogs reach Barcelona😎. The Adria Action is a nice caravan. Same concept as the Basecamp but a different design and layout. Most notably is the door which is on the side. The 2023 model I would say is a notch higher in the quality of the finish.

    Great video again 👍 What do you have to do if you have to take down and pack away an awning when its wet? I have vivid memories of coming back from Scout camps and having to string up our tents in the Scout hall to get them dry 😏

      Unfortunately I’ve had to pack the awnings away wet numerous times whilst simultaneously getting rain on! I lay them out to dry in the garden as soon as possible.

    We are close to ordering a Basecamp with an awning. With the best part of 35 years of camping together in all sorts of tents all over the World, we took one look at that orange vestibule and thought “kite”! It will be a slight compromise on space and prettiness, but we think the Kampa awning, with poles, not air beams, will be our choice. We can use storm straps and know that it is secure. You have both, Nick, what is the compromise on space? Is there room in it for a small table and 2 chairs?
    Great video again - keep them coming!

    • @FlyCampCaravanNorthWales
      @FlyCampCaravanNorthWales  Před rokem

      The Kampa Dometic 200 with poles is my winter awning. With the storm straps it’s very secure in bad weather. The compromise is it’s a small internal footprint. A table and two chairs will fit but not leaving much room for storage. The Pro version has an overall nicer finish. Many Basecamp owners use the Kampa as their go to awning and are very happy with it. The Vango RVA 2 is a great awning with lots of space for storage and a table and chairs and we eat and drink in ours regularly. Surprisingly the orange vestibule is very secure and I did have exactly the same reservations. As mentioned in the Vlog it all depends on how the Basecamp is going to be used. For us, we camp all year round in all weathers so I can’t rely on the RVA 2 alone.

    I agree that the RVA-2 is a great awning. The only downside is that, despite my best efforts to pitch it correctly, during very heavy rain there is “pooling” of water just above the central beam. Any tips?
    PS loved the video of Invercoe in Glen Coe - great site.

    • @FlyCampCaravanNorthWales
      @FlyCampCaravanNorthWales  Před 2 měsíci

      Yes that can happen if the awning isn’t highly tensioned. Once pitched I go round the awning and reposition the walls and pegs pulling the awning as tight as possible.

    Hi, really enjoyed your video. We are considering a base camp and are curious about the other awning you mentioned. Would you say the RVA2 is still the best one of the three you have?

    • @FlyCampCaravanNorthWales
      @FlyCampCaravanNorthWales  Před rokem +1

      Hmmmmm…..that’s a tough one. If I could trust the RVA2 is all weather then yes I may say that. The RVA2 is so dependent on a good pitch to tolerate windy weather. It’s certainly my “favourite” awning as it looks so good on the caravan and is the perfect combination between weight and practicality.

    Recently bought a Basecamp 2 and RVA2 awning. Currently on our 1st trip away, with awning up for the 2nd time, and two of the air beams have burst. So doesn’t seem like particularly good value, and concerned about the long term durability / quality.

    • @FlyCampCaravanNorthWales
      @FlyCampCaravanNorthWales  Před rokem +1

      That’s unusual although punctures are always a risk with airbeam tents and awnings. Can I ask how that happened…Was it during or after pitching the awning?

    Nick… loving your work! We’re about to pick up Brian our new BC2 on Friday. Got a choice of awning rva2 or domestic 200 air pro. Have requested the domestic…. What do you think? Wrong decision? Was nervous about the weight.. but see the 2 is lighter!! Welcome your thoughts..

    • @FlyCampCaravanNorthWales
      @FlyCampCaravanNorthWales  Před rokem

      The Dometic Pro is a very popular awning and looks great on the BC. I would upgrade the guidelines to the storm straps and you’ll be good go all year round. The RVA2 has a bigger footprint and looks amazing on the caravan but does come with compromises as explained in this Vlog.

    Even taking inflation into account these compared to the original purchase price of our ABI Adventura is well overpriced and not in our opinion value for money

      I do appreciate you taking the time to comment on my videos but I’m not sure digging into the ribs of the Basecamp every time is adding much value. I do admire your passion for your ABI. Sounds like you’ve had years of fun with it and I can only hope for the same from my Basecamp.

    • @JohnSmith-bx8zb
      @JohnSmith-bx8zb Před rokem

      @@FlyCampCaravanNorthWales one point I failed to make was that it was quite clear that in my opinion the ABI was met by a hostile caravan media and dealerships
      My local ABI dealer would not stock them as in his opinion it was not a caravan as it did not have a oven nor carpeted floor.
      The then Caravan Club said that they were only 3 berth and not 4.
      I sent a photo to the CC mag showing my 2 children in the 2 separate bunks. A comment was published in the mag written in a flippant tone, no doubt as I pointed out their ‘bad research’ and no correction of their error.
      You will probably recall the other similar layout with the Kanaus.
      However the concept of the Kanaus and ABI and now the Basecamp is in my opinion an ideal one for today, small and lightweight (Kanaus being a bit more in the BMI stakes) with space gaining by using the concept of a motorhome body on a trailer.
      Incidentally I still get people asking if the ABI still available when on site.
      Happy caravanning and hope you get as much fun from your Basecamp as I have from my ABI.
