Since I'm a green woodworker I didn't do much blacksmithing yet. Although I hope to start blacksmithing and be able to forge my own tools together with a friend of mine who has a coal forge.
Thx alot for the great videos and inspiration Nils!
I hope to visit Sweden next summer to be able to visit other craftspeople and maybe have time to follow some courses.
      Keep up the great work!

This really helps people like me who are trying to learn to make hammers and axes without the giant power-hammers etc. I'm still in the process of making my own tongs and drifts so that I can make my own hammers and axes in the future. It would be great to have this beautifully crafted, hand-forged hammer to get me started in that process. Thanks again from the Netherlands.

I recently moved, but I had been living in Cleveland where a local guy had set up a blacksmith shop where he had multiple forges and had started a sort of membership model, where you could pay to use the forge and get materials and whatnot. • @fredfchopin
      @fredfchopin Před 18 dny

Punching it isn't all that terrible, especially with a power hammer or even a treadle hammer. It's drifting the eye that's difficult, since that's where all the stuff can go wrong and you have to fix it. Doesn't take much for the eye to become crooked or off-center in some way, and if it's off center then it's tough to heat only one side of the eye without a coal forge.

I agree with you. Punching by hand is pretty rough, especially in the beginning.

I'm getting ready to set up my own forge and it would be a great honor to use one of your hammers after all the great things you've shared with us over the years

That is a good looking hammer. Been forging in for about three years. I have been looking at getting a new Cross peen to replace the lousy store-bought one.

You are such an inspiration Nils! I am getting into Scandinavian axe making thanks to you and would love to use a hammer forged by you to make them!

Amazing work and great info as always Nils! Just starting in the world of blacksmithing but your videos are great resources to have. A hammer like that would definitely be a game changer from my $25 Amazon special 😂

Very nice work. I've forged 5 hammers with similar techniques, but they certainly did not turn out nearly as well. May be time to revisit hammer forging!

I just built myself a backyard forge after following your videos and I'm finally outgrowing my hardware store sledgehammer! This is such a great video! Thanks so much for making these.

I am just starting to learn to forge and watching your video's have taught me so much. I hope to have as good a set up as you one day. For now I am simply using a 2 lb sledge and a 10 lb anvil with a Fire pit forge, but We all start somewhere don't we? Please keep up with the wonderful videos.

A hammer is one of the most versatile tools out there. Blacksmithing, carpentry, masonry...

Nice hammer and great video! I have taken my starting steps with a piece of rail as an anvil and a forge I made myself from a brakedrum. And it works! Since I don't live that far away from you one of your courses might be the next step.

Personally find the spring fullers work great to moving the larger stock thickness when making hammers, the only tricky part is getting the set down lined up, but patience is part of the work.. great video 🍻🍻

    •  Před 18 dny

Yes! focus and patience. speed comes later :)
