It's now 2023 and all of the Free Birds have all flown home. They all live in Rock n Roll Heaven. Now all of the most original members have left now left us. Long Live Lynyrd Skynyrd. Brother's and Sisters forever.
A revamped Lynyrd Skynyrd Band 10 years after the crash. 1987 / One of my Favorites 'Comin Home' JVZ looked so much different then. Love Allen Collins seen in a few spots here. Also Love ED KING ♥ They're all gone now. (except Arti) May God Rest their Souls for eternity. RIP Gary Rossington♥
I’m 62 born raised here in Miami. Picked up a Guitar at 15 because of them. My 1st concert was them here in Hollywood,Florida a few days before their plane crash. Trust me the music is not the same after the crash..
@DonAllenScott Sadly, my friend, your skill set is not at the top of the list when the economy is falling! I sympathize with you, but if you don't have real world skills! Entertainment falls behind groceries.
In the mid 70s I chased a dream. In 84 I listened to this song one night, and knew it was time to 'go home'. Best decision of my life. I've loved this song for so long now. I so miss all the Skynyrd players who went home.
1977. Such a tragic and monumental year in rock-n-roll. Not only did we lose part of Lynyrd Skynyrd , we also lost Elvis that year as well. God Bless to all.
What a ride for this band! Johnny has held the mic for Ronnie and with the surviving members gave them a chance to go out as time passed to join Ronnie. Now with Gary gone it’s time for the Free Bird to land! You did a great job Johnny Van Zandt.
Saw one of their shows in 87, greatest show I ever saw, when it came to Freebird Johnny wasn't singing it yet and asked the crowd to sing. It was a great ending to the best concert, I'm sure Ronnie was enjoying thousand of fans singing for him & the others. GOD BLESS THEM ALL.
Check out Blackberry Smoke Richard. I was dyed in the wool LS fan (pre 78) & then Rossington Collins Band. BBS is 22 years together & are the best live band playing today. They even do a couple songs by LS & cover them brilliantly. Listen to Whippoorwill CD in its entirety. Like LS Second Helpings, there isn't a bad song on the CD.
I was there in 75 witnessing this incredible southern band. The band was very tight but free flowing when they played. When I saw them barefooted with long hair it was hard to believe how good they were. They were my favorite band hands down. Back then I never thought anything of the confederate flag they had I just thought that’s where they were from good ol’ southern boys taking the world by storm!
I cant believe its been 46 years since the other day the music died. I sure miss all the men and women from the band...from Ronnie Steve and Cassie to Gary and everyone weve lost in between. RIP everyone...we miss you all
The BEST band i never saw! Ronnie and Gary were cool on stage, wiry Allen jumped in the air, landing without missing a note, Ed and Steve's lasting contributions @ their respective times, all the others. As Arty put it, We worked our asses off (@ hellhouse), and it showed!
I saw them twice in 87, in Louisville & Lexington Ky. This is one of my favorite Skynyrd songs. Johnny's vocals on this song is outstanding. I wonder whatever happened to Randall Hall who replaced Allen Collins. It was good to see Ed King back with the band & what a great guitar picker he was. Southern Rock Rules!
I was at that baseball game awesome .I saw then at the volunteer Jam then Atlanta twice that year then back to Starwood in tenn My favorite band of my lifetime .Playing in heaven now
I saw them at Merriweather Post Pavilion, Columbia, MD, during the reunion tour. Great evening and performance for those who never were able to experience the original line up (my brother and I had tickets to see them at the Spectrum in 1977, but it wasn't meant to be and I remember being devastated as Pronounced was the first album i owned and they were my favorite band). They still are 47 years later.
I saw Miami 1976. Miami ‘77. Orlando ‘87. I thought that would be the last. In 2014 I won ticket to see them at Universal. Got to take my then 17yr old son. They kicked ass. Every single time. I’ve walked and heard there is footage and audio from Miami and 77, just days before the crash. I hope it sees a light day one day! I had brought a tape deck in with me, and recorded the whole show, but it didn’t work when it came time to record Freebird. I had to take her about 15 years. I don’t know what the hell ever happened to it. Wish I had share with the world today!
Well-done! Thanks for sharing. One of my all time favorite Skynyrd songs. Lot's of familiar faces included in this video too. Again, great job putting this together
They both were not in the band that long in 74 .... they all grew up together rick actually worked as lighting help ....Rick and Greg went back and pursued blackfoot Rick did few songs with them it was short time he was with them
Vince Gill !! No slouch aweskme set of pipes and lead guitarest very clean shreds it big time always my fav version. Rite here have had to play it many times i. Cover bands over the years Could really go ape with him on leads .shread it more Vince would be my request if i had the opertunity to ppl lpay will the vin man lol.
Ed King playing a mean slide guitar on this song. He was a phenomenal guitar player and his contribution during his time with Skynyrd has always been underrated .
This band is all about freedom, but why not allowing to be proud of their country, or being protested of raising the flag of history-I can’t even find a name logo of T-Shirts in stores: Happy 4th of July!🇺🇸🇵🇭
Not a Damn one of you wannabe Lynard Skynard imposters…Get a fuckin hint! Artimus did! Knew Allen and Leon, and Artimus…we all played in the Battle of the Bands! Tropical TeenClub in Jax

Simply the greatest group of musicians ever it was a honor and joy to see them in 1977 1989 1990 2021 and 2022 they are truly missed everyday
There’s still one alive the drummer Artimus Pyle
@@TylerMiller-lb5yn Hes not the orginal Drummer, That honor belongs to Bob Burns.

I'm 63, but while the original members might be gone, the music is still alive! Sadly, the South isn't the same!
You mean, it was worse??
@jeph33 No, it was better. You could actually get to the beaches.

Johnny best performance of a Skynyrd song sadly they no longer play it live. But I did see this in 1987
This sounds so close to the real thing 👍😎
An American institution. They'll be like Glenn Miller, Hank Williams or Elvis. Unique American icons who's music lives for generations.
So sad, they were the best live rock party ever.
Uncle Jeff.
Johnny just seems like a good dude. Never has anything bad to say about anyone.
Seeing Allen Collins in that wheelchair ...... Had it been Allen Gary & Ed in 87 ........damn..... Now my eyes are welling up
This is up there with Freebird.... fantastic song. Will be played at my funeral. RIP boy's ....
Few good shots of Allen!

They sure have made me smile all these years!
Saw them on this tour in Tampa. There were people crying everywhere. One of the best shows I've ever been to.
I miss those guys. RIP boys.❤
Greatest band of all time. They put every other band to shame. The so called bands of today are no talent garbage-all studio bs.

Being that I was 8 years old in '77 made it a dream come true when I was able to see the Tribute Tour in '87. Thanks again for making it happen!

Ricky Medlocke, Artimus Pyle, and Leslie Hawkins are all that's left
You mean Artimus and Leslie.
@@ElizabethJohnson-ss4ceCorinna Gaines is alive and well. Daughter of Steve and Niece of Cassie. She talks to Johnny regularly.
@@PhantomDetectivesLLC That's nice, but she wasn't a member of the band.
simply the best 🌈
It's super great to see the band , family putting out there heart's and talent, and seeing Allen happy there.
Absolutely, Allen Collins master guitarist
Allen Collins isn't even in the lineup. Collins was already disable and in a wheelchair
@@user-lo1bp4zv4n That's what I meant seeing Allen there. Not playing. 56 seconds in.

Now the good LORD knows what we were blessed with. He's sitting up there listening to the whole original band. GOD bless a simple man.
PURE GENIUS!!!!
They never sounded the same after they stopped using those 70s peavey mace amps in the mid 90s. That was the secret to the old Lynyrd Skynyrd sound.
Grande band! From Torino, Italia. By rockstaff
Rest well big guys! You are missed !
Always was a great concert 1976
I seen them in concert in Greensboro,N.C. in 2000. They were awesome!
Heart touching video! Thank you so much for sharing! 🇺🇲❤️🇺🇸
Saw em'in 1976 St.Louis, 1987 Tampa, 1991' Indianapolis,2018 Nashville... so long
Such an excellent song.
Great video!
Lacy looks like my Dad so much , they could be twins .

You can really hear the Allman Brothers influence they had on LS in this song.
I've always thought that. Gary Rossington and Steve Gaines especially. Ronnie many times would dedicate Free Bird to Duane Allman
@@jasonmiller2962 yes he did. Ronnie and Duane were friends.
@@billwalker7556 that's awesome. we lost Duane Barry Ronnie Steve and Allen way too early
Catch the vibe.
best song ever
Saw them at reunion arena in 87 and again in Columbus Oh in the early 90s
Ladies and Gentlemen the one and only LYNYRD SKYNYRD!!
Only 2 left artimus and Hawkins
They both were not in the band that long in 74 .... they all grew up together rick actually worked as lighting help ....Rick and Greg went back and pursued blackfoot Rick did few songs with them it was short time he was with them
Rickey played drums Greg played bass 2 years 71-72.
That's dosint make them original
Artimus was in the band playing the kit for only 3 years does that make him original.

Damn gary was handsome...prince charming
I'm a man and totally agree with you. I wish I was as handsome as him.
Didn't see Steve & Cassie Gaines. 🙏🙏
Because this was the 10 Years After tour.

Randall Hall is still alive
The beginning/strong/
Was at the reunion tour when they came back home to Jax colosseum. The one version of Johnny’s I like more than Ronnie’s original.
Whoevrr edited this thinks gary played the slide...it's Ed
And no one can do it as well as Ed.

Allen, Gary, Leon, Billy, and Bob are all gone now. Yikes!
