- The Yamaha MT-09 has been with us for 10 years, and through all the changes over this period, the original ethos of the bike has remained intact. Fast, Fun and Agile. So does the 2024 model just continue the story or does it push it on even further. There's new tech and features, but the important thing is, does it still offer the legendary MT-09 experience? In this video, I look at all the changes Yamaha has introduced for 2024 and offer my thoughts on the riding experience.

I bought it in April and I‘m so happy! I‘m 65 and the MT is the best bike I‘ve ever been ridden!
Great review up to the old "I don't think I could trust myself" comment. I'm in my 70's and love the machine and I'm no slouch. With age you learn when to apply the power, great bike for all ages.
Thanks, but I think maybe you misunderstood me. There’s just too much temptation with this bike!
@@mancavemoto Heaven 17 "Temptation" lmao.
As Oscar Wilde said, I can resist anything except temptation. @@mancavemoto
Never ridden any previous MT but had a 900 triple Triumph Tiger GT and this triple is definitely more exciting, especially in Sport mode 😀. Had a short test ride last weekend and going for another this Saturday but 99% certain this will be my new bike. Tech and display style much better than the Tiger even if not as big. Never been keen on the looks but love this one in Cyan. Thanks for a great review. Watched all the reviews on YT this past week and not heard anyone not love riding this bike.
Beautiful bike, personally I love the blue wheels ❤
Test ride this Monday 😬
Great review as usual 😊
Thank you 🤗
Nice review, thanks mate.
No problem 👍
Great review. Even if it's not my thing. Definitely one of the great engines.
Ride safe 👍
I've got my MT09 on order in midnight Cyan. Hopefully it won't be too long 🤞🏻
Test rode one this morning for an hour. Really liked it and have bought the Cyan colour. Been riding an SV650 for the last three years after coming back to biking late in life. I’m 69 this year 🙂
@@frankpenton Sir, congrats with your new bike, one question, I learned on a sv650 and thought it was kinda slow, is there a big difference (feeling wise) in riding between these 2?
hi mate i have received mine a month ago and i love it alot
Sounds sweet
Getting this soon..
Nice one Tony. Thank you. The only bike on my list for 2024 is the XSR-900 GP. The original MT-09’s were, in my opinion, horrible. The disconnection between the front and rear suspension and chassis setup made it a very nervous bike when being pushed. At least they have finally nailed it with this generation as it’s a night and day comparison.
Love to see the 2024 MT10 or MT10SP.
As ever, informative and relevant for the majority of riders who want an educated and rounded review - keep it up.
I think you answered itr already in another comment (not in the review), but you'd take this over the Streety. Can you say why? Overall package, comfort, fun vs serious, etc?
I'm hoping to see reviews doing direct comparisons, but your early insight would help fuel my need to replace my aging '11 Street Triple R which with an aging body too feels very firm these days.
Cheers!
I’ve been looking for a replacement for my 2021 Tiger 900 GT Pro, as I’m not doing any touring anymore and I want something lighter, i did have a KTM Duke 890 last year as well, I test road the Triumph Street Triple RS but found it too focused and I refuse to pay the extra for Cruise Control, I then test road the MT 09 and have ordered a SP for August delivery, never rode one before simply based on the styling I’ve also ordered a 2024 Husqvarna 401 Svartpillon for those days when I want to poodle about or if the weather is poor.
Best in class imo I tried the crop when I bought my gen 3 sp and for a road bike it’s better than the triumph and ktm can’t imagine the gen 4 being any different
Funny, I test road the gen 4 today. In all truth, it didn’t feel to much different from my gen 3 but have to admit, although all the changes are subtle, on the whole does make it a slightly better ride.
Slightly better in what way would you say?
@@ExcursionRipzz The engine and the performance is the same. There is slightly more weight on the front end which transfers into more feel into what the front wheel is doing. It gives more confidence. The front brake is also improved offering more feel and progression. It’s not a night and day difference but definitely an improvement for sportier riding. What with the new dash and connectivity, it’s a better around experience. Would I say is it worth trading the gen 3 to a gen 4, I guess that’s up to the individual. Its better, but not massively
Hi. Great review of a bike I'm considering. What jacket are you wearing in the on bike footage btw? many thanks.
Cheers, it’s a Klim Drifter jacket
Looks like a great buy & will consider one but the Sp version so I'm just waiting patiently for a review on that or a test ride?😊 Great review Sir!!👌🏻👍🏻
Thanks
Heard the sp isn’t worth it now they’ve improved the base model so much
@@SludgedBbrembos and ohlins is always worth it 😂
@@DaleMt09sp see you at the track maybe
@@DaleMt09sp It's an oem ohlin rear and brembo master cylinder already comes on the standard. Unless you're riding to the absolute limits of the bike, you aren't going to notice that much with these stock brembo callipers
Beautiful bike. I love triples. Really nice dash. You like it, don't you. Nick
Found the seat tips you towards the tank which squeezes the nuts somewhat and is uncomfortable afer about an hour. Would get the ergonomic seat i think. 990 duke seat and position more comfortable for me but £2900 dearer so something to think about for me.Cheers
Is it a good choice for a first bike?
Is it just preload front and rear. No rebound damping adjustment at all? Thanks for the review.
My old 2019 MT-09 had a fully adjustable front suspension. From what I've read, the 2024 does too. I remember having mine set to be really soft, which caused a little wobble at hard acceleration at higher speeds. So, I firmed it up and it mostly went away.
Yep, I’ve just realised I said it was preload only, when it is of course fully adjustable. My mistake
Was hoping you'd comment on the fueling/mapping? I tried the Tracer GT+ and found even Street to be too snatchy and on/off for my liking.
Nothing to report on the fuelling, the only issue was a sharp initial bite on the clutch
Watched a few reviews on this new bike but never a mention of the ABS does it have an IMIE with ABS on bends etc
Yes, cornering ABS and traction control
What do we think on pillion riding on it? Enough power and comfort for a couple of hours?
Enough power, and the pillion seat isn’t too bad size wise, but a couple of hours would be the limit I’d guess
This is one serious contender for my next bike I’ve also thought about mt10 but from what I’ve heard through the videos the 09 is the best one what do you think I’m not real far from you I’m near Colchester and thought of TK copes being my nearest dealer
I’d pick the 09 over the 10, but that’s just my own personal choice. Might be worth a trip over to QBS in Maldon, it’s a really nice dealership
hey, i've passed my A license on a 2008 honda cb600 hornet, do you think an mt-09 would be a good first motorcycle in rain mode until i get some experience?
If you turn down the throttle response etc they’re easy to ride if you dial it up and turn off the aids it can be a bit back wheel happy a bike will only go as quick as you want it to imo it’s always better to buy something and grow into it than buy something and get bored of it in a month which I’ve fell victim to in the past
Just bought one last week. Love it but needs an exhaust and flash bad. Has a weird dead spot in 2nd gear
A few other reviewers have mentioned this, they believe it’s to do with the emissions, can’t say it bothered me.😊
I hate how flat second feels... Flash will void warranty I think, so I guess I gotta deal with it for now :/ I ordered an M4 Exhaust and it should be arriving soon. I can't wait, it's gonna sound glorious.
Try watching Mark Pulling's review with an after market Akrapovic exhaust.
I had the 2020 XSR900sp. I sold it because of the head shaking. Oh if only I bought it this year😪.
Is it subscription for the sat nav. What are the costs
No, it’s a free app
@@mancavemoto thank you
Think I’d still go XSR900 with gen 3 quick shifter and comfy seat. Certainly won’t go for it til seat is comfy. And not going to spend 500 on a Corbin seat
True, in reflection id take the Xsr over the mt as well
This or the streat triple?
For me it would be this
I rode one today. Fit not quite right for me but i rode the mt10 as well and that worked for me. @@mancavemoto
I wish it didnt look so horrible, technical its solid, but the eye wants something too
It is a vast improvement compared to the previous model that was hideous.
Nice review sir. I briefly considered this updated Yamaha, but bought a new Street Triple RS in yellow instead. The MT09 has the torque. but the Triumph just looks so much better, and goes and handles so well! Even at 67 yrs old, I still have to consciously think about speed as it begs you to go fast. And track days are a blast for sure.
I’m finding the handling to be very good on the mt09 I’m on my first 100 miles and this weekend going to really take it on some curvy roads but even quick shifter felt better on it than the triumph.. which I didn’t get since full coverage was outrageous in the states for me
I'm so happy I got a gen 3, if I wanted my back and wrists to hurt I would have kept my Aprilia RSVR.
I really dont like new tablets they put on a motorcycles...what happened to old speedometers 😢
Progress? ;)
3 new tyres every 2 years put me off of big bikes. That and you can't twist the throttle without getting into some sort of trouble. Ya know how much fun you can have on a PCX 160?
I have a ADV 350 as well as my other bikes, scooters are awesome 🙌
sounds like you have the wrong hobby...
@@redshiftit8303 Only for the rich, cars are cheaper.
Have to say, the exhaust looks like it was designed in Eastern Europe in the 70s. Not many uglier than that.
It’s not a good looking feature is it
EU emission regulation ruining bikes since 1992...
How can I filter out British motorcycle content? Tired of the accent and 90% of videos about the mt09 are from the UK for some reason
