So according to the dev the quicker the game ends the more games you can put in and get more credits. This isnt true because the longer you are in a game the more credits you get. Jackfrags tested it out. He beasted a game and got 200 credits. Next game he sat around and died a shit ton of times and got 300 credits because the game was longer

Thats the problem also keep out progression out of the DLC and no endings as DLC or competitive extra's for the payers. I never had a problem paying for DLC just make it worth the money. Witcher 3, Horizon, Monster Hunter World is how to go at it. 😉
      But these companies go for maximum with minimum effort. 🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑
      Thats what these companies go for i dont want to gamble for DLC the same goes for Overwatch yes i would pay a reasonable amount of cash for cosmetic skins.

    Loot boxes in free to play games are rather amazing. Like League of Legends, it's just skins ("I want to support this game, here's a few bucks for a Disneylookalike-skin"). In a paid title, I will never be ok with it.

      @ancholatrix3444 Před 6 lety +11

      JapanskNinja I agree, I dont find nothing wrong with loot boxes in free-to-play games cause the company has to make money somehow and you dont feel cheated, like my favourite game Warframe. Overwatch (a paid game) also have loot boxes but its just cosmetics and again you don't feel cheated.

      JapanskNinja Agree 100%. And if the F2P tries some sleezy tactic or makes the game an unbearable grind fest in order to coax people into paying for useless trash, guess what? I just stop playing. No harm no foul. I didn't pay a dime to get in. If your game is good however, and progression is satisfying? Sure. I'll kick you a few bucks for some worthy cosmetics or something of the sort.
      It's funny how it works out because in a F2P, they have to EARN these MT's. They have to get people hooked on their game. Which means they need to make a fun game. A satisfying game. In full retail games? They don't have to earn shit. People feel like they HAVE to enjoy the game because they paid for it. Which they can't, because the progression system is an absolute SHLOG. A tedious fucking chore. So they run to the marketplace and drop 50 bucks just to try to make it bearable.
      F2P model for the mafuckin win.

      @wuzuppe0ple Před 6 lety +16

      If you are actually a dev, fucking do something! Every new mainstream game has loot boxes now, and when will it stop? When did content become something to dodge? Gamers complain about DLC completing and ruining games, "oh we have free DLC, just pay to win instead!", why does any of this exist at all? Because devs allow it to happen. Is it hard to ask for a full game without pay to win? Apparently yes! League of Legends is completely free to play and is the biggest game of this decade. Clearly Overwatch does well with that system even if I payed them for it, what is so wrong with making THAT the norm?

How hard is it to do that in Battlefront? I mean you could do that in the original Battlefront 2 and that had a progression system in it back in 2005 even tho it was very basic, remember the Award Assault Rifle etc? There is perfect working formulas from past games, what is being done nowadays is just ruining all AAA games and giving them shorter lives. People want freedom in games, they don't want to be forced to open multiple lootboxes to get an item they have seen on another player, they want to find out the way to get it and work for it.

      Zant I don't actually have concerns about the loot boxes. I'd way rather have loot boxes compared to paid dlc. I'm getting free dlc so I'm happy. Since I played the beta, it was extremely easy for me to get loot boxes so I really didn't care. And I never felt like I lost a gunfight because someone had a star card that he got from a loot box. And they changed them since the beta and made them better. And you have to remember, the gaming industry is a business, and thats an easy way to earn money for the company but its also there because games are extremely expensive to make now, and in order to have free dlc, micro transactions are there to make up the money.

BUT I hate the whole money=gameplay I think that it SHOULD BE PURELY COSMETIC like OW lootboxes, their system is good where duplicates give you currency to buy the things you want and etc. lootboxes that give weapons like Halo 5 req system, this, SoW their lootboxes are shitty and all around greed, lootboxes that are centered around emotes or PURELY cosmetic then they are fine

Most of them had their own engine and get forced to use a certain Engine from the Publisher. Right now the Development cost of anything game related is low, the lowest it ever was.

      I dont know, you have to remember that this is gaming so not as easy to gain real data on each persons thoughts on a game. Though I will say, it would not surprise me if a bigger portion of the player base does decide to play for a longer period than normal, because of how they set up the progression system. For example: Last of Us had an amazing multiplayer game mode, literally on pair with other games that solely have multiplayer without a single player, yet the population in there did not have as many as other games.

    As soon as Joe asked why Loot boxes should be in the game, all I heard was stuttering and answers to questions except the one that was asked.
    People pick a particular path in games, why? Because they paid 60 fucking dollars for it, they can take whatever path they want - this whole Loot boxes help players keep playing is bullshit.
    Great gameplay, a great community and great, competent devs make a game replayable. Not fucking loot cards.
    The fact he dances around the P2W problems and the fact that loot boxes are entirely corporate. It's disgusting, you're targeting vulnerable people to gambling with their money or just relying on people who don't care paying, either way - take a look at yourselves in the mirror.

That’s why people end up staying for the long haul. Collectors, completionists, people who just want the best items they can get, people who like or are trapped by gambling. It’s easy to reel them all in while keeping them there with the steady release of new and better loot. And no I’m not justifying it I’m simply pointing out the shady and messed up business practices.

If anything they should keep the loot boxs for cosmetics but rng rewards after matches. The better you do the higher the chance to get somthing good. That way it also encourages players to do better for a better chance at better rewards not only that but they can also lock some rewards behind challenges. So you have something for those who want to look cool, somthing for those who just enjoy playing the game and somthing for those who strive to be the best.

      Jake Runyan I'll be honest, no, I wouldn't.
      I would value my artistic integrity more.
      And I don't believe some of these devs are too happy with these choices they are contractually obligated to make, either.
      This *is* a business, and businesses have bosses that you bend over backwards for.
      In this case, it's EA, and thus, they are the ones at fault here, not DICE.
      DICE has always treated their players fairly, lootboxes and malpractice is not what they are known for in the past.
      This new lootbox craze is being spear-headed by production heads in companies like EA, in their attempts to normalize it as a service, in order to make more money.
      The main people I feel bad for, (Besides the consumers being abused) are the devs of the games, whom not only have to make creative sacrifice on their projects due to contractual obligation, but whom also end up being the main source of criticism from the community (Since it's the only face gamers have to identify the issues with).
      EA is the one making the majority of the dough, and when their OWN forced malpractice starts to ruin a franchise, they simply flush it, instead of handing over complete creative control to the dev teams.
      This is what's troubling for DICE, the more intervention EA has in their games, the more consumers will get mad, which will then hurt their games, and by extension their company, until they go the way of Visceral Games.

      It'll be enough when companies stop making tons of money off these shitty practices. I hate this nonsense as much as the next guy, and I make my voice known by not only not rewarding the company for micro transactions and loot boxes, but I flat out will not buy the game at all.

    • @mariotheflower9454
      @mariotheflower9454 Před 6 lety +2

      They listen after they get their money. The most spend on loot boxes and any type of micro-transaction happens at the start of the game from players who are already totally aware of the fact that spending = advantage. They stopped early enough that it makes you question your belief that EA are just in it for the money and get out, but late enough that they got the lion's-share of the money they would've got.

  • @Branded.Schnoz

    "Durr we want people to keep playing for a long time, so loot boxes."
    My guy. Do you know how fucking long people played games like Call of Duty 4, or Halo 3, games that didn't have any micro-transactions? To put things in perspective, *those communities are still around.* It's really quite simple -- make games that are GOOD, and people will play them for a long time. A game's quality should speak for itself, and it shouldn't need to have bullshit stuffed into it to artificially create longevity.
    Conversely, if a game is bad, it's bad. Releasing it in such a state and then saying, "don't worry Joe, we'll address some of those concerns POST-launch!" is ridiculous. If EA's that worried, maybe they should delay the game's release instead of putting out an inferior product in time for the fucking holiday season. Games like Persona 5 and Breath of the Wild were delayed multiple times to make sure the quality was there, AT RELEASE, and you know what? Those are damn near *perfect* games.

    • @DirEnGay
      @DirEnGay Před 6 lety

      Those games that you mentioned have paid DLC by the way. People still do play them, but then again people still play just about every game. The only difference is how many people quit before a DLC was released and didn't justify paying for it? In this game all future DLC is free so people who play casually or get bored can come back to the game when new free DLC is released. I basically do this right now on Overwatch. I get bored and quit for a month or two then a new map or character comes out and I come back. As for the lootboxes, they ain't an issue if you play the game you get them for free. People crying over them haven't figured out how easy they are to unlock without spending any real money...

    • @Branded.Schnoz
      @Branded.Schnoz Před 6 lety +10

      Paid DLC, e.g. map packs that have nothing to do with player progression, are not at all the same thing as lootboxes. I'm not sure if you watched this video, or the rant that preceded it, but Joe broke it down pretty clearly: yes, you will _eventually_ unlock things for free in this game, but it will take you *hundreds* of hours to get it all. Why? So that you buy the lootboxes instead. I'm glad you've apparently "figured out" how to get around this problem in a game that hasn't actually been released yet, but I don't know what your point is here. The promise of free DLC in the future is empty, it means nothing. It's only happening because they've found a logical progression for their greed. Unlike new maps, these lootboxes are inherently tied to progression, they affect gameplay significantly. EA doesn't _need_ to charge for DLC anymore, see? This is a much, much better scam

      Exactly this. And damn I miss Halo 3.
      Loot boxes will never equal more game time. I can put more time into Super Metroid than most games today because its so repayable with all the sequence breaks, clean fluid movement, awesome atmosphere and music. These things don't matter anymore. So sad.

      At this point I think Joe did put back his own hate and tried his best to get EA in a real conversation (which didn't work) because he probably wants to see BF 2 succeed, which on the other hand would mean that more of the blaming they give EA from all sides (justified of course) wouldn't help much in that situation.
      It's unusual for Joe to hold back that much, so there clearly clearly has to be a different purpose in Joe's mind than to beat a dead horse.

      I was thinking that myself... they're a necessity? You mean with a budget the likes of EA and Dice they couldn't even think of another creative way to introduce progression that allows for players with skill to progress at an appropriate rate while still allowing bad players to progress? How about a Steam style market system? Maybe a free loot crate every day, or every level up?

      Deej from Bungie gets the same treatment. It's hard for these community managers, even though Paul isn't one, he's probably just the guy that drew the short straw, when the companies they work for make stupid decisions because most of the blame and hate will be thrown at the community managers.

      leonthesleepy No, aim it squarely into his face - especially in this specific interview. He’s representing the Dev team and EA. There’s no reason to pull any punches. This isn’t about hurting somebody’s feelings. It’s about refusing to let $60 games turn into some garbage mobile market filled with Clash of Clans business models. They need to hear that message loud and clear. If he’s going to shoulder the responsibility of interacting with the consumer, then he’s the guy that needs to hear it the loudest.

    Dear Joe,
    I'm just one fan but I do hope you read this.
    Been following your show for years, and our gaming taste is so similar, it's amazing.
    Your rant represents me 100% EVERY TIME which makes you GREAT in my eyes.
    However I do have one point I'd like to make across:
    If you hate Battlefront 2 and the evil system surrounding it so much - be a man of action, and boycott it. Don't stream it, don't cover it.
    Give your rant in full facecam and don't show ANY footage.
    You will lose a few bucks.
    But you can't expect EA to not to try microtransactions for a few bucks, if you yourself can't lose a few bucks to truly reject it.
    As a wise man once said - with great power comes great responsibility.
