In Mexico when you're in kindergarten at the end of the day they'll give you a star sticker in the forehead to show that you were a "good kid" so Mia being the most childish, spoiled, attention wh*re character always wears one

Idk why I reading “kindergarten” and “attention seeking wh*re” in the same sentence is so funny to me. 😂

The Roberta doll is pretty but they are basically Fashionistas with more clothing pieces. Mattel's prices are over the place. You can get a MH reproduction with beter detail and articulation for the same price as one of these. That $100 doll looks like it has the same quality as the 65th Anniversary.

This is like watching the chipping away of brand loyalty in real time. If we have a relationship with brands, can those relationships become toxic and one sided? How much abuse do we take before we walk away? Didn’t the CEO say that Mattel is not a toy company but an IP company? So many questions you’ve inspired w this video!

The set is actually based on the band RBD which originated from the telenovela. They're using outfits wore on past concerts, so it's like more the actual individuals than their characters. I guess they're named like this due royalties, maybe it's cheaper to license fictional characters than celebrities. Maite (Lupita's real name) wore bangs on the launching of the original Barbies in 2007, so you can give her bangs and still be canon 😅

Wait so Rebelde and RBD are not the same thing?

    • @robsonriot
      @robsonriot Před 2 měsíci +6

@@unknownn1073 Yes and no. The band was originally a stunt on the show but it quickly became a real thing because of its huge popularity. The show eventually ended but they continued as a group for several years after.

I’m Mexican and this novela would actually play at my house from time to time but I never sat down and watched it. Of course the actress Anahí always in the news, gossip shows etc. I was either a sophomore or Junior in high school and my brain was somewhere else. 🙃

Exactly my thoughts on the Styled by series. MH dolls get a playset with an extra outfit for 30usd, 2 dolls and a car for 50usd yet we have this for 100usd. It's wild that Mattel seems to be "sabotaging" Barbie or pushing the collectors limit as to how high they can sell a doll with as little material as possible.

Like they have sets of two dolls for $90. Mattel Creations is having a sale now on their older dolls. She most likely will be on sale later her and the Ken aren't selling.

I am half German, half Guatemalan. This doll line is amazing to me because Lupita looks so much like my older daughter who’s almost 16 and Mia can work for me when I get my tan when I am home in Guatemala. Doll brands so often completely ignore how diverse Latin American people are and how much diversity we have with skin , hair and eye color. My one wish is to get a pale bit olive skin toned doll finally. I am very pale but still have olive toned skin, like many Hispanics. I might get both versions of Mia as well, eventually. Love the single dolls darker blonde. We basically never get darker blonde hair. It’s so much like my natural hair color, I love this. And Lupita and Roberta were a must for me because I love those face sculpts so much. I just wish they’d have given them at least the single joints like the Extra line has. I will put most in mtm bodies.

My biggest complaint about the modern day collector barbie is how "safe" they all are. Slap a mermaid style dress with some embellishments and ruffles/layers with a simple hairstyle for $100+ and use fancy words to describe it. It also feels catered towards the inbox collectors. Funny when Disneystore also is guilty of this but the dolls still have articulation. They have the articulation Model Muse body but don't use it. I wanna see designs that aren't just "red carpet" and break the mold and get creative.

I love your reviews! I think your knowledge of sculpts and doll history are so fascinating. And you sound like you are personal friends with the designers.
I didn’t buy the five pack because of the articulation. However, that Roberta doll is special and the shoes are actually good. And the Romeo headsculpt? I did not know how rare he is. I will definitely take a second look.
So right about collector dolls. But I too have spent on dolls I was not in love with. It happens in this hobby.

Totally agree with you, on the new collector dolls I am a Barbie Signature member and cannot see spending 100 for 1 doll that comes with nothing and they must be bombing cause they are still on the site... and some from last year with sales pricing still not sold out. They went overboard last year w/ Barbie movie dolls most of the dolls should have been 25 not 50 to 75 ridiculous. I think we the consumer / collectors have realized that mattel thinks we will just buy anything but no, they have loads of competition now and they better figure it out as people are selling off collections, downsizing, and only buying/ looking for quality. Thanks for your reviews they are honest and I appreciate them.

I think they really wanted the Roberta's piercing to look nice, and that woudn't happen if they choose UV resin print. But i wonder why they didn't did it to Mía? The star on her forehead was an iconic fashion trend the telenovela make happen, it deserves a better treatment too. About the Lina face, they changed because of the plastic surgerys Anahí (Mía) has done, so now she does look like this, and the big eyes are accurate too. I bought the whole set, the single dolls and the 5-pack. I love RBD and i'm really happy to have those dolls.

I got this 5 pack, from you telling us about them. I love them. New or rare face molds & very cute outfits. For the girls. The guys are ok.

I agree with you on the best of the Rebelde dolls! And also on the lacking of the wow factor in that Signature doll. A better hairstyle and a 2nd outfit would have made a huge difference

I got a Modern Circle Barbie in May she is a nice doll except the outfit on her was black pants and long trenchcoat with a orchid purple top. I needed to clean ink splotches off her body but in a prettier outfit its not the career girl look thats promoted.

The dolls are cute, but I’ve never heard of them before. I think Roberta is my favorite, but I think all the girls are cute. The boys are at a disadvantage, because I don’t like molded hair…
Not sure if I’ll get them.

Question? Is ot true that of you put modge podge on a pixelated doll that ot helps the dolls eyes look not so pixelated?
I like the Lupita, Mia, and Roberta dolls. As for the boys, I like the one with the black hair best. I am so sick of Mattel making dolls with no articulation and cheap material for their dolls. I would love Lupita, and Roberta and the black haired guy but I can't see paying $100 for this set although you get more on this set than on the 1 $100 signature doll. I have purchased more integrity dolls versus Barbie dolls because the quality and clothes is so much better. Mattel really needs to stop making cheap quality Barbie dolls. I am over Barbie low quality unless It is articulated. They are just not worth it anymore without articulation and quality clothes.
