    Just gained yourself a new follower. Growing my first garden this year and my cantaloupe and watermelon look good but wasn't sure if they were ready turns out I probly have a couple more weeks. So the ones that I accidently broke of the vine looking at are just going to the chickens!

    Thanks for the knowledge. I'm still a novice growing cantaloupe. This is only my second year growing cantaloupe melons. I start with an 10-10-10 granular fertilizer and after 3 weeks I used Neptune's Harvest liquid hydrolyzed fish fertilizer that has a 2-6-4 n p k Some melons were sweet and some were not. I had 14 cantaloupe on 4 plants in a 10 foot raised bed. We had a storm that dropped 5 inches of rain the day after I watered them. I'm thinking that was part of the reason for some having bland taste. I didn't know about a spoon leaf I will check to see if I can find it. Again thanks for the info. I have to put a piece of panty hose over my melons so the critters I assume squirrels don’t eat them so I’m not getting the field spots or webbing is it still going to have a good flavor?
    Also what fertilizer is best for my melons, and how often do you feed them?

    • @MBHeritageFarms
      @MBHeritageFarms  Před měsícem

      we always prefertilize with fresh chicken poop and dead leaves three months before planting and only water after planting until harvest.

    • @MBHeritageFarms
      @MBHeritageFarms  Před měsícem

      try more phosphate in pre fertilization stage before planting and spoon feed 4-4-4 organic weekly during the flower phase just before the melon develops,Thanks for watching and have a great weekend

    If they fall off the vine by themselves.

    • @MBHeritageFarms
      @MBHeritageFarms  Před 13 dny

      Then most of the time thats an indication of over ripe or rotting. The PEAK ripness is while its still on the vine. "Have google will research"

  • @larryhaydon
    @larryhaydon Před 4 dny

    Good Job Brother.....starting a garden in the Philippines. Had a few descent cantaloupes recently but 2 that I harvested were huge but not sure if over riped or under ripe...what happen if you harvest late?

    • @MBHeritageFarms
      @MBHeritageFarms  Před 4 dny

      Thank you very much. Harvesting cantaloupes too late can produce a copper or metal taste at first, which worsens as the rot starts and the fruit softens.
