The Boston Bruins Weren't Supposed to Be This Good...

- The Boston Bruins are coming off of the best regular season of any team in NHL history. They lost Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci to retirement and also lost Dmitry Orlov, Tyler Bertuzzi, and Taylor Hall to free agency. They were supposed to take a step back this year. But, so far, they have picked up right where they left off last year and are 2nd league wide in the standings with just one regulation loss. Can they sustain this excellence? I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I’m glad they held onto Ullmark and Swayman. They made some good moves in the off-season too
JVR was a great signing and I really hope that he comes back for a few more years. He's a veteran player and I feel like he can help this Bruins team to the SC.
But he’s washed look how he played in Philly man was useless thanks for taking him we actually have room for real players 👍
being surrounded by shitters will do that to a man @@edited1325
@@redryder1306LOL they’re doing so much better without him HE was the problem
@@edited1325 Maybe he wanted to play for a team that actually has a chance to win the cup lol

Been a Bruins fan my whole life. Marchand may be called a rat by every other fan base but that is his job! To throw others off of their game!! Off the ice though... he is a great guy & father! I'm glad to see that he is wearing the well deserved C on his jersey! He has earned it! Keep up the great job Bs!
I'm a Leafs Fan and Marchand is the Greatest All Around Player this Century so far.
Marchand just has to wink at the other bench and he’s in their heads. The Doc Holliday wink. 😅
Hall was traded, we didn't lose him to free agency.
I forgot about the trade part yeah, mostly a cap dump but that’s true
@@DropthePuckHockeyget your point. We were needing to use that hit on the salary elsewhere. Great video man!
Not a big loss there. Hall never lived up to expectations.
I mean a lot of the players they „lost“ were deadline trades when they were already on pace for the regular season record. Bergy and krejci also missed/ took a break in a lot of games. Krejci especially was great, but he didn‘t play a lot. Bergy/hall were the two only big losses for depth. Hall missed a lot of games too. With poitras stepping up and getting some more depth in free agency, they are basically a 1C away from the record-setting roster in quality
How to win in the NHL:
1) good, consistent goaltending
2) a commitment to team defense
3) a balanced scoring attack
4) leadership
Consider this. Of last 30 Stanley Cup champions (1993 - 2023) only three teams have had a player on their roster who scored 50 goals the year the team won the Stanley Cup (Graves in
'94 and Sakic in '96 and '01). No Stanley Cup champion since the 2004 lockout has had a player score 50 goals the year it won the Cup. In the salary cap era, well-balanced teams that play defense win Cups. The Bruins figured this out a while ago. Smart organization.
Honestly, we’re really privileged. One of if not THE BEST right wing in the league right now, a solid top pair with very good defensive depth, Zacha starting to perform like a 6th overall pick as soon as he gets handed to us(granted, playing with Pastrnak will do that to you) of course the Goalie Tandem being Arguably the best(arguably in the sense of it could be argued otherwise, but relatively they are generally considered the best) and apparently Jim Montgomery is good at his job.
Best Right Winger in league right now is Matthew Tkachuk no contest
@@soccermtb13 oh there is contest considering he spends time in center and the left wing
Pasta has more points and goals then tkachuk😂
@@validcreator3105 Tkachuk had more goals and assists in the playoffs than Pasta... the only ones that actually matter XD lolololol imagine thinking season goals count towards a stanley cup run
@@validcreator3105 but for real, I'd take Tkachuk (a leader, playmaker, and clutch game winner) on my team over a pure goal scorer like Ovi or Pasta any day. He's a more complete nhl player, and he had 17 more assists than pasta last year lol... 4 less points, and lead his team to the cup finals over the vesna winning... oh yeah bruins XD
Best October team every year
The kids have speed and talent and they still have Lysell waiting in the wings.
Here's the point. The Bruins just need to get into the Playoffs and then go nuts. And you forgot to mention the huge pool of talent that they have been able to call on from Providence to fill out there team when someone gets injured or someone gets suspended. The last two weeks, showed us that pool and it's pretty freaking good.
If we are contenders, we could also get a piece at the deadline
Don't Over Work Marchand with too many Euro Players and Boston will be Competing.
Marchand needs Checkers so He can Relax until the Playoffs and then LOOKOUT!
How did that work for them last season,? Bwahaha
@@RodCalidgethe bruins management stupidly played an injured goalie instead of going to Swayman. If not they would’ve won.
@rodneydecormier1504 That and the league letting Chucky and the Toddlers get away with every blatant foul known to man. As soon as they started calling them in the finals, the pussycats were done.
I'd argue that middling on offense (14th in goals scored per game), and elite on defense (tops in GA/gm, currently #1) is exactly what we expected. It is a suprise that these levels would manifest in this good a record, but a solid record is not a surprise.
It was the same narrative before the record breaking season as well lol. I saw some saying they should tank this year…like yea a team with two of the best goaltenders in the league, a Rocket Richard winner, and the #1 defense should tank 😂 wishful thinking from them
JVR & Poitras have been some of the biggest surprises for the Bruins. JVR was just meant a be a cheap signing after dumbing Taylor Hall, and I don't think anyone Expecyed Poitras to be this good this soon.
And of course Ullmark & Swayman continue to be the be Goalie duo in the league.
They started the off-season pretty much in the same place as last year and wouldn’t you know, they’re off to a similar start
Great win over the Blue Jackets, offence was firing and Ullmark put on a clinic….let’s go Bruins
? they havent played the blue jackets this season
You mean buffalo??
NOTHING MATTERS..IF THE CUP DOESN'T COME HOME...
i mean their D core didnt really change so they're gonna be decent-- need better offense tho hopefult they can pick up kane or something.
Beecher and Lohrei give me hope of a Dynasty
Poitras + 28 million in cap space next off season certainly is a bright sign of that
They have been……this year it’s a little different this year …. Goaltending Goaltending Goaltending has been the difference
I dont get this stuff last season they said the same thing at the start. How can u doubt boston its not only their players that are good its the organization thats good everything is built to win. Everyone wants to win from the owner to the GM to the 4th liners.
Pastas penalty shot was gross
Yup, they're a great regular season team... unfortunately, you know some team which barely scrapes their way into a playoff spot will beat them in the first round having zero pressure and zero expectations. Again. That's the modern NHL.
I braced myself for pain this summer. I still haven't braced for *this*- but I'm not complaining!
Season has just started. Rangers look great so far too, but there are still a few games left.
Update: we're above vegas now 🤎💛
It's still early, just gotta make the playoffs and not shit their pants like last year. That was embarrassing.
You act like Boston lost a ton of players. Their only notable players are hall, Bergeron and krejci. Maybe foligno you can throw in there. Bertuzzi and orlov were deadline deals. That doesnt change what the team was from last year. Biggest holes to fill are Bergeron right now. Krejci wasn’t that large of a loss as they’re done fine without him
LETS GO BRUINS!!!
They’re ahead of vegas, not sure where you pulled taht from
I made the vid right before that game haha
Regular season dont mean nothing if you lose to the 8th seed in round one of the playoffs
How did your team do?
When they play the Rangers we will get a better idea of the kind of team they will be.....
We will get abetter idea about the Bruins, Rangers or any team when the playoffs begin!
We've got the records; who cares now. Just get enough points; make the playoffs and stay stingy. Bring that cup back to Causway.
It's all for nothing if they don't have success in the playoffs.
Don’t worry they ALWAYS CHOKE
Always huh...I must've imagined the Stanley Cup wins we've had. And I'm just counting the 3 I was alive for, not the 3 between 1929 - 1941.
They have the same points and nearly the same record as last year. It’s always about the playoffs and if they will implode…I’m not buying the hype yet
It’s not even about this year either they’re gonna get even better next season
Mac Jones should be out them he got sacked 5 times in the first half his head was probly spinning how do u Blame everything on one guy isn’t this a team game does 11 guys on the field for chrissakes
Sorry wrong article lol
Wrong sport....did you watch the video?😮
Vegas - Boston finals 2024.
the difference this year has been two words. Sway, and Man
They lost Montreal.
Being the best in the regular season means nothing if you get eliminated in the first round of the playoffs...just saying.
I guess you’re new to hockey. Playoffs are unpredictable, and in the cap era, every team in the playoffs is pretty evenly matched. The best team gets knocked out of the playoffs almost every year. It’s not surprising, at all - at least not to veteran fans.
But I get it… you’ve only been watching for a couple seasons or so. I remember how new and exciting everything was. Don’t worry you’ll catch on soon 👍. Welcome to hockey, kiddo

The Bruins also weren't supposed to choke in the first Round of the Playoffs 😂
Unlike you, I guess they actually have a gag-reflex
They will get knocked out in the 2nd round.
Tough part of the schedule coming up so we'll see how really good they are.
Yeah cuz that week of Toronto, Florida, Detroit and Dallas was super easy. Any team would’ve performed as well🙄
@@dronemachine4694 We shall see.
yeah but they were expected to be good, and still make the playoffs... while they're on a surprising hot streak, the Canucks are far outdoing the bruins when it comes to expectations for the 2024 season. However I expect the Canucks, Bruins and VGK will all drop off quit a bit as the season goes on, as they've all had a fair bit of luck involved with their hot starts.
The thing is bruins aren’t relying on hot offense like other teams but lockdown defense and good goaltending which is way more sustainable
@@edited1325 yet they lost to the bottom feeding habs who are in the 2nd or 3rd year of a rebuild.... The bruins will not sustain their current record, and if you want to put money on that I'll gladly take it.
@@soccermtb13 can’t win every game and it seems they did something really stupid by going out partying the night before
@@edited1325 if you really think the bruins are going to hold a 80% win rate through to the end of the season because good defense and solid goaltending.... You're delusional. I wouldn't even bet on them finishing first in the east personally... but hey I'll root for it, as it's that much funnier when they choke in the playoffs XD
@@soccermtb13 they did last season and they’ll probably be somewhere between .700 and .750 this year after 82 games
The thing is they’re unbelievably consistent at a reasonable rate between games when it comes to everything not the highest scoring team but that doesn’t matter when you’re 1st at goals against with that defensive system it reminds me of the devils back in the day and the islanders a few years ago a system that helps the goalie most nights
They don’t get rattled either like some other teams
The crazy thing is they’re only gonna get better in the next few years with young guys popping up and looking promising 28+ million in cap space next year with only debrusk and swayman needing extensions (grezlyck is mid imo he ain’t worth much)
VGK aren’t gonna drop off by much either that team is also stacked and play a similar style of defense
Canucks are on a serious hot streak and are putting up ridiculous numbers which won’t last
Defense is easier to maintain then offense
They may win a lot of games, but they can't win the Stanley Cup.
They won most recently in 2011… and then got back to the cup finals in 2013 and 2019 (which were very close series).
So they came within a couple goals of 3 cups in the last 12 years. So how did YOUR team do? Unless you’re a fan of Chicago, or Tampa, etc… you really can’t talk buddy lol
yeah just wait till the first round of the play offs
Bruins are chokers and jokers.😂
They will choke anyway so the start is useless. Choking is in this franchise's DNA.
Hmmm...in their DNA. Someone should inform them of that before they win a 7th Stanley Cup. 🙄 Tied with the Blackhawks for 4th in most Stanley Cup wins. You may not like them but don't sound stupid. All you're doing is showing how little you know about hockey 😂
I wouldn't worry too much about the bruins come playoffs
Let’s go Bruins.
The truth be told; We won't know how good or bad the Bruins are until the Playoffs begin.
Relax, the habs beat them
Relax, the habs got spanked tonight 😂
Dont tell me Marchand is the Bruins captain. Looks bad on the franchise
Not in Boston 😂
Every fan would be kissing his derriere if he were on their team.

This is the reverse osmosis season for me. Win the cup, and I will review or watch the regular season games on youtube. Don't care if they win the Harry Schmedlap trophy for the most points, don't care if they have the best goaltending, don't care, too many disappointments 71,74,78,83,90,91,10,13,15,19,20,23.
Boston is only good in season. I'm pretty sure Bruin fans can agree.
It seems you have no likes
