I don’t think I’ve ever heard a CZcamsr actually say that they want to be careful of what they say about food/weight/eating disorders because of the kids following them. So much respect for that statement.
basically the opposite of the body positivity movement
It's slowly coming out more and more, but there's a really dark underbelly in climbing with eating disorders.
@@defaultstate4536I don't think so. The idea behind the movement is to feel good in your body and don't judge others for their body. So being sensitive about that topic is one of the main goals the movement wants to accomplish... Getting rid of glorifying super low weight is one of the main goals.
like basically what magnus said is the same as basically all people i know who support body positivity
@@undeniablySomeGuy Maybe so but I think Magnus promotes healthy eating (not under eating or over eating to detriment of health), and will be very careful not to promote unhealthy eating behaviours, therefore protecting his viewers.
Many in the "body positivity" group do not share that philosophy and some of their viewers are potentially in danger of following trendy but unhealthy role models promoting eating patterns that could cause serious issues years down the road. It's awesome that Magnus seriously cares for his fans and vulnerable people and would never put them in risk the way some social media trend setters are doing.
It's a miracle Juji met Magnus in that gym that day, great to see them both together again after so long
Didnt juji do a collab with magnus to promote grip genie? I agree of course 😁
Miracle, no.
Unlikely and fortunate, yes.
🙄
@@OriginalPuroloser alert
was that on an episode?
It's amazing to watch Magnus climb. But more than anything, I've been blown away by Magnus's ability to focus and commit his body to whatever he's doing. He's damn strong, but more than just being strong, he's a great example of how powerful mind-muscle connection and willpower can be in maximizing performance.
I especially loved reading the parts in his book about him training in his bedroom at night doing tons and tons and tons of ab work every night in his parents house no matter what.
@@jujimufu his marathon in death valley really made me realize just how serious Magnus was. Dudes a unit
I love both of these amazing men. They are both such sweet, humble human beings. I remember when they both met and I'm so happy to see their friendship continue.
Hearing you talk about tricking Juji, really makes me miss my tricking days. Spending hours at night in the available open gyms, fighting ants in the soccer fields, and sneaking in sessions between my cheer/tumble coaching. I am thankful for all the years I was in tricking, I didn't meet many trickers, but I made many friends through tumbling and college cheer. I'm grateful for all your sharing of information in the 2000s on trickstutorials and through youtube. Your tutorials not only helped me, but it also helped others around me such as my students, fellow tumblers, and other coaches. Thank you for all that you do.
Thanks for the thoughtful and kind response Jodenc. I miss tricking too. I took a fork in the road when I peaked in that sport to pursue my own thing, and continued gaining weight, getting older, and losing skills. My arsenal is a fraction of what it used to be but I'm grateful for what it taught me about my relation to training, my body and life. Happy to see a fellow trickster here. And definitely relate to the late night open gym sessions, fire ants, getting kicked off fields (again and again and again), being a grass connoisseur, and all of the above! Thanks for hanging around! And coincidentally I have Yuri Marmerstien and Justin Carney swinging by this weekend to film a kind of "tricking video" for this channel. Video will be done in July sometime. Gonna try to learn some old man moves. ;-)
@@jujimufusuch a wholesome response :)
I love the friendship of these two. They are both polyathletes who have a great appreciation for what other people can accomplish or accel at. Both are amazing in their own fields of pursuit, but they can still genuinely appreciate people who may not be as "good" as them at what THEY do, but show their ability in ways they're less familiar with.
The book should reaally be called "magnus opus". That would make my life complete
how about magnus opum?
You are the best interviewer Ive seen. That was personal! You knew a lot beforehand and asked very good questions!
Genuinely surprised to read this. I struggled to host this, didn't realize how difficult it was. Now I have new respect for the greats like Tim Ferriss and Rogan as hosts. I did read Magnus's entire book before this interview though with lots of notes, and have been friends with him for years, so that helped a bit LOL! Appreciate the kindness my friend!
@@jujimufu It's really difficult to put into words what makes a good interviewer, but first and foremost, you weren't a stranger and helped Magnus share everything about him and his book in 55 minutes. His life journey and the little things like Magnus opening up about Playstation problems. haha. But, the interview was personal, and I felt like I got to know Magnus and learn from his expertise. And thats part of the reason to watch an intervjue with somebody, they got a unique perspective and expertise. You achieved that! Very often, interviewers interrupt the person being interviewed to explain something, and in doing so, they lose the thread of the conversation. I often feel it would be better to simply read the person's book, and not watch more of an interview. It just messes it up.
I am Norwegian and have read Magnus' book, and I have never seen a better interviewer than you. I hope you continue with this. One thing that would be really exciting would be if you wrote a book. And maybe even an interview where you are the one who tells about your journey, but it has to be done by someone who can do interviews. Because it's not easy to conduct an interview; you need good questions and a consistent thread throughout the conversation. Asking questions is not for amateurs. You did it better than Joe Rogen!
Both of you were extremely inspirational in my fitness journey. Thank you!
Fr Magnus got me addicted to climbing over a year ago and Juji inspired me to start getting gains 💪
Honestly wish Juji did have a podcast, it's always interesting hearing people speak on things that they never would have in a video if it weren't for something like this.
Yes. He is more insightful, thoughtful and deep than the average viewer understands. People see the muscles, flips and splits.
And those are a lot of what he is for sure. That is an aspect of his personality that he cultivates and makes the money. However, I think a lot of people, younger people especially, could benefit from knowing that they can also be more nuanced without losing the fun. A lot of it just comes with age tbh
Admitting struggle is taking steps to face true strength. Not where you want to be but meeting yourself where you stand. Proud of both of you
I've only ever seen Juji on Magnus' channel. This was a great chat and I'm impressed by how well spoken they both are. Interesting topics as well. With regards getting older and grading down, I'm a few months off turning 65 and still improving my climbing grades after starting a couple of years ago. Of course I'll never be elite but it's nice to know at my age you can still improve. Currently at 23/23 (@6c/7a I think). If I can nudge up a grade or two I'll be pleased but I'm more happy that I found something I really enjoy and both my kids climb with me.
Well Magnus and Juji, you guys have really raised the bar for content. The conversational way that you and Magnus talk about heavy topics is fantastic.
I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Not just the content but the atmosphere of the conversation. I've started watching videos at increased speed to make information consumption more efficient but I watched this at normal speed all the way through. Thank you.
I appreciate it. Happy you dealt with my inexperience as a "podcast" host here haha!
I found Juji from his tricking videos, his tornado 540 kick was a video that made me subscribe. When Juji brought mangus in his videos that's when I got interested again in his videos. You two should remain lifelong friends. You're both really genuine nice guys. Respect.
So glad you did this! Your channel is what introduced me to Magnus.. love this "not a podcast" podcast!
So great to see you guys together again! You always seem to learn so much from each other, and I wish I could be in the room for these conversations! I'm a rock climber myself, but I got my start in the tricking/parkour side of things, so I find myself identifying a lot with both of your perspectives. I've met Juji once in Toronto for a "Grip Gauntlet", but never Magnus. I hope to see you guys around in the future!
I need more content with the both of you. You both are so humble and have great chemistry together even though yall come from totally separate worlds. It's cool to see. Don't wait another 4 years to make it happen again
I have watched magnus for 5 years and currently I am 13 and have loved climbing from before I watched his videos and the first climbing video I ever watched was one of magnus and this video was really touching and it showed me how harsh dieting can be
As someone who grew watching parkour/tricking videos since 2006, got into parkour and then into climbing around 2014 (more specifically Bouldering), due to it's simillarities (dynos, hanging traverses, etc) it's só interesting to see this talk from 2 people Which i ve known for years!
This was such a chill conversation you had, I enjoyed every minute of it.
Felt like I was sitting right next to you in a (slightly old fashioned) living room after a workout, relaxing and just listening.
Thanks, Juji!
Great to hear magnus talking about weight challenges as a climber. I'm the same now that I've broken the v9 ceiling, weight and strength has become an obsession. Finding the right diet and still being able to enjoy food and life is really hard.
What's your weight at now?
This was great. Love the vulnerability to speak so open from both of you. 10/10 would watch you talk like this with other athletes.
Juji youu should definitely have a podcast. Your one of the better minds in the fitness world.
What a duo! Both of guys are such an inspiration!!
Love it. I want more "not a podcast". Thank you for the interesting thing you shared
Absolutely love the candid nature of this chat, lots of great messages.
This is so awesome, seeing the both of you doing this podcast, we are lucky to have the both of you collaborate 😁💖
I actually started rock climbing around 4-5 years ago after watching your first videos with Magnus, and I'm still going strong. Hearing of his struggles after dropping weight was interesting, because I'm still primarily a weight lifter rather than a climber, so I'm heavier than "good climbers", and was thinking about losing weight myself to hopefully help me start climbing V8 consistently. I'll stick to getting stronger rather than lighter!
The distinction you need to make is getting stronger at climbing rather than generally stronger (bench press/squat..etc.)
I think the takeaway would be: don't go below where your body naturally falls from specific training for your sport. If you were to focus on climbing for a year and drop/reduce heavy weight training, you would likely lose weight and that wouldn't be a health or performance issue. The issue comes when someone then decides to try to loose even more weight by starving themselves.
@@PorklionThat's an important distinction. If you're big and muscular, then you'd get a lot of progress in clilbing just by losing muscle in your legs, for instance. Making a distinction between functional muscle and muscle that isn't functional is important. If you're climber than you want to be as light as possible, so any muscle that doesn't help you climb better will be detrimental. Pros go so extreme that they will even mimise walking up when projecting. I haven't heard this podcast episode yet, but I've heard Magnus talk about it, so I'd imagine he mentions it.
And then there's the point about climbers being as light as possible. There's a saying in climbing that goes like this: "it's easier to get a kg lighter than a kg stronger"
@Finnspin_unicycles
LOSE. Not "loose" ffs 😖
If you are climbing because you enjoy it, don't do the crazy weight cutting stuff it's very bad for your health if you look at fighters some of them up dead, in hospital or with life long organ damage from weight cutting.
Find a group of friends near your skill level and a bit better and have a good time. If you have to win competitions to feed your family people go a bit extreme.
We need more of this great content Juji... keep up the good work!
This is incredible Juji, im fifteen minutes into it and im alredy loving it. Such a good insight into magnus as a persona and not magnus midtbo the climber. It feels human and flows naturally, and that is as good as it can get at least for me and surely for a lot of people.
Such a good conversation!! Love the thoughts on whether it makes sense to put your all into "getting back into your old shape"... I feel like what a lot of people turn a blind eye to is that all excellence requires tradeoffs and sacrifices, so it's not just a question of can or can't but of which priorities you really want to align your whole life with!
You said it within the first minute and a half juji. If you start a podcast, it has to be named "I Don't Have A Podcast"
It's great to see these two collaborating again. The original videos and grip videos got my interest in a lot of climbing and strengthening of my hands.
So when does the book go public?
Great podcast man love revisiting your Chanel once in a while you really have a wholesome and chill vibe
Loved that book. Left it in ky classroom and a few students borrowed it and one even came to boulder with me after reading it. Thank you Juji for this "pod". Excellent stuff!
It's crazy to finally hear someone talk about the way athletics can drive eating disorders (maybe I've just been in the wrong space to find that lol). It's so real to hear Magnus say that he looked to the body type of his peers and thought he needed to look the same. The second I got boobs and the other athlete girlies didn't, it really fucked me up. Eating was no longer fuel, it was evil and would ruin my chances to be a good athlete ✊😔
I love the setup. Old comfy couch, microphones in hands. Mix on table.
I dug the "Not a Podcast" Podcast Juji, fun and interesting marketing with the name. I think you should continue this, perhaps next a strongman is in order?
When juji goes into the information dives and obsession with climbing, oh damn did I feel that section. I went 23 years before finally being able to afford my first shoes, and now I walk down the street visualizing projects from the spray wall. There's something amazing about finding that obsession.
Enjoyed this conversation a lot. Brings back memories of your collabs years old. 2 good people :)
This was a really insightful conversation. Thanks for sharing!
Please do more of these, especially with Magnus😍
Awesome interview/podcast!
You are a great podcaster. And thanks for being the big first reason Magnus blew up. I remember when he was on your channel all those years ago.
Nice to see a collab with Magnus again. Started rock climbing because of your videos.
This was a great idea! Looking forward to more Jujimufu podcasts!
This is awesome , full of little tid bits and hearing your guys’ real story is dope.
Loved watching this. I have been following both Juji and Magnus for a long time as a fellow rock climber I appreciate this content! Thanks guyd
It's really nice to hear that CZcams and making videos is still a passion for Magnus and not just a job. I'm sure it's hard sometimes. As a viewer it's easy to say (in a well-meaning way) "just take a break if you're not feeling motivated" but when CZcams is how you make a living it's not so simple to take a break. I get a sense that a lot of creators struggle with that.
Anyway, by how much enthusiasm Magnus seems to have towards filming and the whole process of making a CZcams video, I can already tell it's going to be difficult for him to outsource some of that work to other people. But I agree that IF he wants to keep growing his channel it's probably the right move to make.
Oh wow, finally some news that Magnus and Marte are still together. Glad to hear that.
Hell yeah! I have a feeling this not a podcast could become a this is a podcast!
If you could only hear his voice, Juji sounds like he wears glasses and sells life insurance. Visually, Juji looks like the reason you need life insurance. Absolutely love your channel and every Magnus collab!
Just amazing! Very intresting, regards from Spain
Wow gonna double comment because after actually listening to this whole thing at work, I wasn't expecting it to resonate as much as it did. The magnus juji podcast needs to be a thing!
I needed this. Thank yall so much.
This was honestly amazing, thank you Juji.
I'm not a rock climber nor am I a body builder. I just like watching both of the activities on youtube haha. I was a fan of both these two before they met. I love the collabs.
Oooh I'd love if podcast becomes a thing YEAAASSS
Awesome first podcast. I m not a podcast person but really enjoyed this one.
I've been looking for a Magnus podcast and finding an interview by you Juji is such a gem! My only feedback:
You'd ask Magnus a question and then when he'd be ready to answer, you'd continue explaining the question. I wish you would let him talk a bit more.
These two are great because they are so honest.
This gives me old school youtube vibes, just watching people have fun, no rush, no skipping through, I wish I could go back to watching content like this
I can't even describe how awesome it is to see these two men, who both have been so influential for my passion for sports, just sit on a couch together and talk to each other about their sport. Both of these guys have been my idols during different parts of my life! The discussion around nutrition and body composition is especially relevant for both, trickers and climbers. When I started tricking in my early teens, I quickly stumbled upon TricksTutorials and I was soaking up all the information and guides by Jujimufu. Juji really helped me to ignite my spark towards tricking, which was a huge part of my life for nearly 10 years and he created such an influential community, which helped people to share information about this young sport. Now that my tricking days are over, the passion for rock climbing has pretty much guided my life for over a year now, in which Magnus and his educational and motivational content has played a huge part as well!
I also found it funny to hear them talk about body composition and different muscular goals. When I was doing tricking, I wanted to get swole since I was pretty much a wet noodle back then, and now when I'm packing some good muscle mass and started devoting my life to rock climbing, I've also been trying to get rid of some weight. The philosophy of being comfortable with your body and focusing on good nutrition, sleep and hard training was really inspirational to hear from Magnus.
Since this video conviniently has both of the important characters, who have done their part to shape me as an athlete who I am today, I want to sincerely thank you both for the work you have done towards your respective sports! Both of you guys have inspired many athletes with your hard work, educational content and wonderful personalities! Thank you!
Really cool podcast guys, as an avid climber it's really cool to see two driven people bounce ideas and chat to one another
Thanks juji, i follow both you and magnus both now. I find you both inspiring. Because of you i found devon and renewed my interest in that as well. Too much to type it all here. Thank you for your content and the parts of you you share. I feel the same way about Magnus and Devon as well. I hope to some day meet each of you.
Juji ❤❤❤ podcast!! Listening now 💪💥
Love seeing these guys together some of my favorites in their own professions
Have I really just sat for almost an hour, watching two guys on a sofa having a chat? It appears I have. Enjoyed every minute of it too. A bit sad that Magnus seemed more enthusiastic about cameras than climbing though
I met one of magnus's father's school friend here in Chattanooga at a popular swimming hole. He is as quality as magnus and it makes sense because they are from the same village. It is amazing how small this world is and how much we can experience through others testimonies
Just starting but this is going to be awesome!! There's not enough just chatting with Magnus
Bro everyone should feel it appropriate to have an impromptu podcast when the timing and company are appropriate! So glad this popped onto my feed!
Juji threw himself the best softball ever for the non podcast podcast using Magnus
In regards to the body and specific strength - im a 40 year old HVAC tech. 20 years ago i could do 20 plus pullups being at healthy weight for my height. Now, i can barely do a handful, yet this is the best shape ive ever felt ive been in. My fingers, and forearms are definitely the strongest parts of my body and its not even close.
Its just wild to me how the decline in age definitely contributes to that feeling of 'peek shape' regardless of your field of expertise or just generally going through life. Much love brother
i always liked your collabs with him the most because I watch him as well and he seems to be sort of old youtube like you where there is a small number of people like just one editor and maybe a cameraman and with a certain personality
Amazing "not podcast" sir. love your work and was happy to see your interview with Magnus. Followed him for a few years and have always been interested in how he thinks. Now we know. Thank you
This was great! Thank you both!
criminally underviewed
Loved this conversation
This is an awesome chat. Thanks for making it happen.
Good job Juji. Go climbing with him again!
Please. Juji. Become a podcast host :)))
Love this conversation SM!!!
I am late to this, I started watching climbing content for the first time a few weeks ago even though I am not very physical at all but I just love the community surrounding it. discussions like this are things I love as well so thanks a bunch for getting together to talk about.. honestly anything. I just like you guys haha
Love the stripped down long format chat
That was a very interesting conversation between two awesome people.

Really enjoyed this, maybe one day I can hop on your podcast that’s not a podcast 😂🔥
This is great guys!
been going to the gym for 38 years now, but always love looking at other sports ,looking at magnus climb is inspiring
Do more bro, really cool podcast
I just want to say Magnus you are truly awesome you are a awesome athlete youtuber and as far as I can say you are an awesome person. Juji you are of course also awesome and I really do like the collabs between you 2 guys, but for me magnus is just next level
haha the smelling salt bit at the end really brought a smile to the face, that was great!
It is a very interesting book. Had to preorder it. Been watching both of you for ever.
The extreme dieting experience and throwbacks to early 2000s rock climbing world were really awesome, fascinating, and surprising. Learned a lot.
I am a huge fan but, I must confess that I've been somewhat disconnected from recent developments, and I'm genuinely interested in Magnus's book that appears to be unavailable for purchase. Despite my effort, I haven't been able to uncover any information about it other than it was published and it is not listed for sell anywhere. Why is his book no longer available? Was it ever available? Will it ever be available again?
@@smmyfoster It was advailable by pre order when I got my copy.
@@smmyfosterdunno the full story but he had issues with the publisher and had to take it off the market.

Great interview!
Great one guys
I’m generally not a guy who watches long videos (30+ minutes) but I’m loving this talk. (another addicted climber here)
