I bought the Meike Extension Tubes through your link because I needed Macro capabilites with out the Macro lens cost, and WOW! I use this in all of my CZcams videos now. This is the least expensive "lens gear" that I'll ever have but use the most. Thanks!

    I bought a Fotodiux Pro adapter for my Nikon lenses to use with my a6000 and I attached my Kenko extension tubes. It does a great job. It doesn’t focus but with most macro shots you have to physically move to get the object in focus.

  • @magicebuyer2010
    @magicebuyer2010 Před 8 lety +1

    I have tried these kind of things in the past and while the do work I often found my camera struggled to actually focus correctly (and even when it did it was no where near as fast as the lens without these things on them), I also found them just generally very awkward to use in general.
    I did finally bite the bullet and got myself the 3.5/30 Macro E-mount lens a few months ago, I have to say I am very impressed with it. But one thing I do see often not mentioned is that it is a real lens in its own right, it doesn't just do macro, it's a very capable lens for normal photography too - so I see it as I got a pretty good (for the price) 30mm lens that just happens to be really good at macro.
    And remember to always update the firmware on your new lenses for the A6000 range, my macro didn't work at all well until I did this (and it couldn't use the advanced focusing at all).

    • @SonicBlue

    • @scry1888

      @@Luis-dz4vb I got mine today and was having the same problem. Also a total amateur and a beginner user of my A6000. What worked out for me is getting physically closer to my subject. It takes some time to learn how close you need to get with each extension (or the combination of the two). If you are too far, the lens suffers trying to focus and fails.

  • @ThisIsWideAngle
    @ThisIsWideAngle Před 7 lety +32

    Maybe a nitpicking point, but this doesn´t make your lens a macro lens, it only reduced the minimal focal length. Macro lenses are designed to optimize their performance on close objects.They have different optical builds and finishes for different wave lengths. Even if you are able to photograph objects closer to your lens it won´t have the resolution a good macro lens has.

    • @SADEONTHERUN
      @SADEONTHERUN Před 6 lety +1

      ThisIsWideAngle is that why I noticed the blurred/out of focus background in this tutorial? I want to invest in a macro lens for a cooking video. I want crisp, clean shots.

    • @chileheadcraig
      @chileheadcraig Před 6 lety +17

      SADE ON THE RUN it's blurred because the DOF is so shallow when shooting this close. Why would you use a macro lens for a cooking video? To show the texture of a piece of lettuce?

    I have 3 questions. Hoping you could help me with them!
    1. How does the focal length of a macro lens affect its field of view?
    2. How does extension tubes affect different lenses' focusing distance and field of view?
    3. Do different lenses work better with extension tubes?
    Many thanks!!

    • @Nitrxgen
      @Nitrxgen Před 6 lety +1

      I'd also like to know - I know field of view is always narrow with macro lens, would a narrower aperture lens increase this with enough light? What would the result be with a wide angle 12mm lens? (for fun) -- if there's still no reply, I'll probably buy the thing and answer these myself.

  • @justinyuvilla8944
    @justinyuvilla8944 Před 6 lety +3

    you got a closer shot, but the dof is blurring a whole lot more. Is it possible to get a sharper cleaner shot if you used a tripod, together with adjusting your cam settings further with those extention tubes?

    • @frankzayas3103
      @frankzayas3103 Před 5 lety +1

      Using a tripod, faster shutter, smaller aperture will improve the sharpness and depth of field issues. Of course that will require more light, so either find a sunnier spot of use off camera flash. Also, focus stacking is a technique that requires some practice but once you have it, it will do wonders.

    I tried the neewer extension tubes, they're okay, but when they break you get a bunch of metal teeth falling out of the tube. I have a few spares anyway, but it's good to have options like extension tubes to bring in your focus range.

      If you want to see more detail in like flowers or small objects, fine print, etc, then yes, an extension tube or macro lens is necessary. I have an a5100 with the kit lens, very similar to your setup. I can only get about 6" from an object in focus. With the tube or macro lens I can get about 2 inches from my subject. Hope that helps you.

      Michael Bennett macro mode just forces your camera to push the lens as close as possible within the settings. The lenses have a closest focus distance that doesn't change in macro mode. Tubes are nice but to get true macro you need a 1:1 reproduction lens. This means something 1" in real life will show up 1" in camera.

    I tried to find an e mount extension tube without complaints on Amazon. Every tube has negative comments about gaps that let in light, loose fit that allows lenses to droop, etc.
