In this informative video, Westex offers an in-depth analysis of what an arc flash is and how you can protect yourself by wearing the proper electrical PPE.
My boss did this once... I ran into the vault and i couldn't see anything but smoke...i thought he was dead..but when the smoke cleared, he was standing in front of the switch gear all blinded by the flash, like han solo out of the carbonite 😄 he was fine thank god
The flash sometimes can be as powerful as a 12-inch to 20-inch professional fireworks salute shell inside the electrical switch, fuse box, or circuit breaker, or bus complex blowing right in front of you. The injure zone or kill zone may be quite small in arc flashes, but if you are in the danger zone as the flash happens, this can still have extremely dangerous physical consequences without PPE (can lead to death), but lesser chance of serious injury or death with PPE. Some arc blasts can heat up as much as 35000 degrees F. That is much hotter than the hottest kiln oven on earth!!!!
Just fyi, there is no such thing as 100 times slower, (see 1:32). By its nature, multiplication is an operation of increase, not decrease unless you multiply by a number less than 1. Did you fail basic math?
hey, masters level physics student here. 100x slower is a valid way of saying it, you can represent it multiple ways. 1: represented as a 100x change in magnitude, indicated by "slower" its clearly in the negative. 2: multiple of denominator. This is a perfectly normal way of saying a reduction equal to dividing by 100.
I saw the thumbnail and thought "That's clever! If you don't have PPE just have someone else stand directly in front of you while you work."
