Without saying his name, Larry Merchant mentions that Roy Jones Jr.’s next mandatory WBA opponent is from Argentina. It’s unrelated to the 1613 CHESTnut address, but the fighter he referenced, Dario WALTER Matteoni, turned 45 years old the day some grannies expired: 08/31/05. Unrelated to calZAGhe: Jones ultimately never fought MATTeoni, but next fought REGGIE Johnson, the first guy shown on the prospects graphic (01681874 incarcerated in Texas at HAMilTON-200 LEE Morrison Lane, bRYAN, TX 77807)

How is Ward a hype job? He entered that Super 6 tournament and won the thing. Then he turned around and beat Dawson. When his shoulder heals, I'd like to see him fight Golovkin, that would be a great fight too.

This fight was in Pensacola , his Home Town in a Venue which only held between 8 to 10K Fans and he couldn't even sell it out and it sold very few PPVs , and I applaud the Genuine Boxing fans for staying away and not purchasing his Junk PPVs as was so honestly put by HBO .

Jones was scared of Collins AND Michalczewski, I can bet you that! Why? Coz he liked fighting cherry picked opponents and dancing around them, someone he could look good and flashy against. With Steve and Dariusz, he'd really have to FIGHT, no clowning, no dancing, coz every mistake he made could be his last, esp against Dariusz the ko artist. This is the only reason why I don't like Jones as much as I used to. He claimed he was the best and would beat anyone, but he DIDN'T fight EVERYONE.

@@speedkills7710 He beat Bhop in 93 , they were both quite young and there was lots of guys at MW , Champions like John David Jackson , Julian Jackson , Nunn , Kalambay , Mc Clellan , Johnson , Collins , Pyatt and many more who were Ranked as high as them , even higher . My points about Jones is that he became an Athlete and very clever Businessman after his best win V Toney in late 94 , he actually started fighting lesser quality Guys from then until 03 . I don't count a 40 years old Mike Mc Callum , a 39 years old Reggie Johnson and Virgil Hill , who was the wrong side of his Career and had lost his Titles to the Best , most successful LHW of the 90s , the year before , Darius Michalczewski . Jones fought Hill in 98 in a Non Title Bout , because Hill lost to Dariusz and Jones ditched his only Title , WBC LHW in late 97 , to avoid Nunn , it was the 2nd time he avoided him and would do so again in 99 . Nunn wasn't the only Guy Jones ducked numerous time , Collins and most shockingly of all Gracianno Rocchigiani , he ducked these numerous times also . For me personally , Jones got badly rattled and shaken after what happened to his friend , Gerald , The G-man , Mc Clellan after his fight with Benn , early 95 , by his own admission , he became an Athlete as opposed to a Warrior in the Hagler Mould , who was prepared to fight The very best out there and willing to leave the US , in the process . He decided to protect himself , first and foremost , his Paper Titles and his 0 , the best way to do that ,fight lesser Class and old timers . He most certainly wouldn't have got away playing Basketball if he had to face Mc Clellan , Jackson , Benn , Collins , Liles , Rocchigiani and Michalczewski , I assure you that . All the best , take care 🥊🥊

@@speedkills7710 During Jones 2 years Reign as IBF SMW Champion , late 94 to late 96 , he had his Career Best win V Toney but would fight just another 6 times V Guys who weren't SMW Champions , he fought Lucas , Thornton , Pazienza , Sosa , Byrd and Brannon in that period . Seemingly in 95 , there was a Superfight proposed between Jones and Mc Clellan , at SMW but obviously this couldn't happen after what happened to the G-man , so how come no fight between Jones and Benn , the WBC Champion ? This would seem to be the most natural fight out there and would have generated Huge sums of revenue from ticket and PPV sales but then again if you were Jones , would you fight Benn ? There was also Eubank on the scene but when Collins came along and beat him twice , then Benn twice , he was the most obvious Guy to fight but no , despite Team Collins traveling over and making big money offers to him . Even forgetting Benn and Collins there was Frankie Liles , WBA SMW Champion , 93-98 , he too was a very dangerous opponent who Jones priced himself out of fighting by demanding 85% of the Purse . Jones may well have beat them Guys but unfortunately , we'll never know as he just didn't want to fight them then . 🥊🥊

Roy unified Lght Heavy division. Beat Johnson, Devalle, and McCallum for 3 main belts. So you're wrong. He attempted and did unify belts. He beat an undefeated James Toney who was in everyone's pound for pound list. If you check how many pound for pound boxers fought each other, I don't think there's that many if ar all. If Roy wasn't #1 maybe it was Toney?. Did you know he beat Sugar Boy Malinga who years later would beat Benn? You said he beat B level fighters, but I bet you he beat more future champions than anyone else you can think of. Definitely more than those fighters you said he ducked. He also beat Gonzalez, RIP, quite easily, who years later would beat Michaelczchi. Easily too. So is not "debate", these are FACTS!!!!-. Know them before you start saying people don't know anything.

@@xeniadiaz6457 If you consider Jones as an Undisputed LHW Champion, that's fair enough as he was , by cheating Rocchigiani out of his WBC Title which he won after beating Nunn in March 98 , after Jones had vacated it to avoid Nunn , he was handed the WBC Strap twice for free , yes free , in 96 , he was declared New WBC Champion after beating a 40 years old Mike Mc Callum , who wasn't even Champion , Tiozo was . Jones also got to win his WBA and IBF Straps in 98 v Delvalle and 99 from an old way past his best Reg Johnson because they were stolen from the True Legitimate Champion , Darius Michalczewski who won the IBF , WBA and Lineal Titles from Virgil Hill in 97 , to add to his WBO Title , which he held since 93 . The facts are that the WBA , WBC and IBF , screwed and stole Michalczewski and Rocky's Titles from them , not even allowing them to defend them Titles and Jones didn't even have the Honor or dignity to fight them . In 2003 Rocky proved he'd been screwed and cheated out of his Title in a Court of Law in NY City , which awarded him over 30 Million Dollars against the cheating and disgusting WBC but would settle for less as they were crying Poverty but most Crucial and importantly , the Judge reinstated him as the Legitimate WBC LHW Champion and even backdated his Reign to March 98 until April 00 , where he lost to Michalczewski , thus rendering the Childish , cheating Jones's false claims to be Undisputed and also rendered his WBC LHW Title Reign during this period as Null and Void , and a joke , which it was .

Jones was never Undisputed at MW, he held 1 Strap for 18 months , in this period, Mc Clellan held 2 Straps , why no Unification Bout? The Gman beat Jones in a tough fight at Amateur level and Jones seemingly admitted , he didn't want to fight him at Professional level. When Gerald lost to Benn, who could hit big, at SMW, can you imagine the shock waves this sent through the Jones Camp? After Collins had beaten Eubank 2 , and deservedly, especially the 2nd fight, he really bullied Benn twice, who wasn't the same fighter but retained all his power and hit Collins numerous times with some thunderous hooks flush on the chin and barely rocked him, these events would have been taken into serious account by the Jones camp also. When Roy became SMW by beating the Excellent J Toney, he would fight 6 more times at this Weight V lesser Class opponents and wouldn't Unify this Division either. Liles, Benn, Eubank and Collins, all held a SMW Belts around this time, why no desire by Roy to Unify? He was Big Business back then , with a massive contract with HBO and a very good Team of trainers and Advisors , who would have picked the bones out of the events surrounding the fights I mentioned earlier, and advised Jones not to fight Collins , who would have given him a harder night than you think.

Not " he was advised not to fight Benn, Collins or whoever else. Roy fought everyone. I can't believe anyone would actually believe Collins had a chance. Look it up it's on CZcams. Roy = G.o.a.T!!!

Collins started calling him out in 95, after his 2nd defeat of Eubank and again the following year, after the Benn fights. Considering the talent he had, do you not find it a bit strange, that he never seemed to aspire to be the Best, MW, and SMW, of them all back then, and he called the shots, you have to admit this, he fought who he wanted V lesser Class opponents. He is 1 of the the Greatest P4P lads for sure but not MW and I consider Calzaghe as the Goat of SMWs, because he came closest to Unifying it. Johnson and Mc Callum, who beat Collins in 92 and 90, were way better back then, than they were when they fought Jones, especially Mc Callum, who was 40, and Collins improved big time as he got older. It's a shame back then that a lot of Guys seemed more interested in protecting their 0s instead of actually fighting each other and there are lots of Guys who avoided each other including Collins and Jones and if they try to deny this, they are lying. The only Guy who avoided nobody, was Mike Mc Callum.

Roy had already beaten Hopkins 6 years prior at MW and wanted a 60-40 split for a rematch which B-Hop refused.
Darius refused to come to america (typical european bum)
Roy beat Reggie Johnson and David Telesco in his 2 fights immediately after this
and Reggie beat Collins before that LMFAO
    Roy wins

There was a good pre-fight scene of Calzaghe with his sons playing "Fight Night" and Calzaghe's sons voice their concerns over Roy Jones and Calzaghe tells them not to worry because he has diminished and is no longer the fighter he once was. This aired before the Calzaghe-Jones fight. Be realistic.
