    There was a reason the Hu chose her to write the English part of this song. Her refeverence and ability to honor the feminine is beautiful. Losing my mother at a young age Lzzy Hale's voice and words have propped me up as a young woman and as a vocalist on my own. That strength and power is inspirational to say the least. I can't begin to express my gratitude towards her. Bless you for reviewing this one, it hit me in a different way tonight.

    Just a comment on the drum rhythms. As in most Mongolian music it echoes horses in motion. This one is also the human heartbeat which is so prevalent in Native American drumming.

    • @MrZenGuitarist
      @MrZenGuitarist Před rokem +3

      Yeah, I've noticed that they often have several 'elements' (or instances) where they seem to 'imitate' a horse...I've especially noticed it when they do it on their stringed instruments though. But when you pointed it out I can clearly hear it from the drumming as well.

  • @glynnporrino9435
    @glynnporrino9435 Před 3 lety +29

    There is a video with the translation of the Mongolian lyrics and they are just as much of a prayer/worship/respect of the power and grace of women. I've lisstened to this song dozens of times and it still brings a tear to my eye. The emotional truth is pure.

    I know there will be an army of Halestorm supporters watching this with recommendations, but to swing attention back to the writers; I have seen The Hu live, and they sound even better and more amazing live than on record. This song was brilliant originally without her, for those who have not heard it. Make no mistake, I think Lizzy is tremendous.
    I worked security at concerts for years and will tell you that The Hu is the best band I’ve ever seen (Paradise, Boston MA). I expect that to change in October when I see Nightwish but post this as a footnote for others who could see an amazing show. Great seeing another 50 yr old discovering the worlds music thanks to the web. Geebz keep up the great work!

      Kai Tangata is a great track from Alien Weaponry too, and the video is pretty cool. I love that they took the proverbial bull by the horns at such a young age, proving that the youth of the world are still passionate and talented; it makes me happy to know the future of metal music is in the hands of kids who care deeply about keeping it going strong.
      My son, who wants to start a thrash band, is only a little younger than those boys, and when I found them I was like "see, you don't have to wait to grow up to do what you love! Just find friends who are as dedicated to music as you are."

    oh if you haven't heard Lizzy Hale in her full glory then you should really check out "I miss the misery", "I get off" and/or "Love bites(but so do I)" by her band Halestorm. she has got a voice that's up there with Grace Slick, Ann Wilson and Amy Lee, something not a lot of women can achieve. The HU themselves are just amazing though, i love the way they break through the cultural boundaries while staying true to their roots! if you want to see another really great Mongolian throat singer check out Batzorig Vaanchig.

      @@chrisgreen248 yeah, everyone just seems to want to wow Geebz with the longest most elaborate songs. I instead want him to do some of the more memorable shorter ones first, with something unexpected like Space Dye Vest. As amazing as Learning to Live is, it takes a few listens to really absorb, so I might leave that for later.
