This is one of the songs that really put Brandy on the map. I love Brandy. I heard in an interview that someone back when she was wanting to break into the music scene or be a singer or something like that. One of her teachers or someone told her she couldn't sing and she wasn't pretty enough boy were they wrong. She was on TV too.
Brandy is an underrated legend. She is the foundation of Modern Day teenage Pop. Brandy was the template that Whyte music executives mimicked to start the careers of Britney Spears, Christina Agulera, Justin Timberlake, NSYNC and so many more. Brandy was a commercial Pop princess in the 90s. She had multiple top hits, ranked #15 on Billboard's Most Successful Artists of the 90s decade with only two albums and ranked high to other legends like Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Toni Braxton, Madonna, TLC, Boys To Men and a few others. Additionally Brandy out ranked Usher, Britney Spears, Aaliyah, Monica Christina Agulera and NSYNC to be the most successful teenage artist on the Billboard Charts for the 90s which is impressive considering that Whyte artist are pushed more and overrated than Black artist (even though every genre of music from Rock to Country was stolen and Whyte washed by Whyte artist đđ). Additionally Brandy's Never Say Never has sold over 20 million copies globally making it one of the world's greatest selling albums of all time. This song alone was a top 5 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 charts (I think #2). Brandy's decline in success will never be understood. I always cite the white washing of teenage Pop music as one reason, but I also believe that the music industry didn't know how to market Brandy as she got older. She got pregnant at an early age and the music industry did not like that for her because it was against her "innocent" Pop appeal. But when Britney Spears got pregnant early, everyone was mute đđđ Additionally industry politics played a role in Brandy's decline. By the early 2000s, Brandy's success had declined along with Monica, Aaliyah had tragically passed and Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake and Usher primarily Usher careers had reached massive levels of success. Usher alone was the world's most successful Male Pop artist of the 2000s decade, while Britney Spears ranked #3 behind Beyonce and Alicia Keys in overall most successful female Pop stars of the 2000s decade. Unfortunately Brandy didn't have that level of success in the 2000s. However Brandy is a legend and I'm glad she is getting her flowers.

Beyonce came along, became the token black girl, and killed RNB! There so many RnB girls that came and went because everyone was so far up BeyoncĂ©âs butt that I think are better artists than Beyonce. Amerie, for example, is so underrated and never got the proper backing she needed to further her career. That said, I couldnât agree with your statement more. I was straight up rnb until the young pop scene came along and took over, but I was only really into Christina Aguilera because she can sing. But that, coupled with BeyoncĂ© overshadowed some of the other rnb girls. And this is not on Beyonce, she is doing what sheâs supposed to be doing, entertaining! But this is on the industry that chose to ignore the other girls in favor of Beyonce and give her all the opportunities. And itâs across all of entertainment, where they keep awarding the same A list celebrities, based on name alone and NOT the quality of their work!
