  • Four iOS devices can be synced via WiFi to create a jam session, where recordings can be made simultaneously and then shared with the “band leader”.
    Much can be done here: any instrument can be selected by the band members, and then the band leader can press record, enabling all devices to sync and record all at the same time.
    Possibilities, possibilities, possibilities, and immense fun into the bargain...
    Here, in this video, I show the main features, together with a jamming partner...

    It's been a year since I started doing music because of your channel and the videos on this app, and you're still teaching me new tricks, now my phone has entered the game!

    I actually played along with both jam sessions with your daughter, with my iphone 8+ ,
    And recorded it (Albeit on just a cheap voice app on my other phone, haha)
    I used some C chord variations I used /changed from standard circle of 5ths
    (C⁶, C⁹/a, C , C¹¹ , Csus2, C⁷, G, and C⁵M⁷)
    ..... good fun!
    Thank you for all your priceless insight and knowledge ,
    @Dan Baker
    Cheers 👍🏼🎵

    Thank you both! Dan, perhaps you could shoot a Video about the Logic Remote App? Its possibilities seem to be endless. Wonderful stuff. I would love a tutorial done by you.

      Hi there! I’ve tried using the logic remote a few times but find it incredibly clunky and I’ve never managed to get through a session without it dropping the connection. Shame...

      Oh, that‘s rather sad, Dan because I have gathered only good experience with it. I even could not longer imagine mixing without it, using the faders via the touchscreen makes mixing so much more intuitive - love that. Plus now I can use all the GarageBand for iOS performance goodies like chord mode etc. which is really fantastic. Maybe a stable WiFi ...?

    Well done Dan, this was new to me and I tried it out just based solely on you and your daughter’s demo. Pretty cool actually, this would mean you could play from different rooms? That would fit with present health restrictions perhaps, I dunno, they would be entering the same property is all. I think your daughter sneaked in half a bar of ‘Fur Elise’, while Dad was busy doing something for more than two seconds, not directly involving her, so concentration wandered - perhaps that’s just me imprinting my own experience with my two girls! Now one’s at University, when we Zoom chat or woteva, she STARTS with a yawn? Is that Pavlovian or what...ungrateful ingrate...Thanks again Dan carry on and keep safe. Oh, my tip - rename the tracks in your ‘jam’ member devices, something that identifies the source? So I renamed my two thus: ! Poisn Synth SE ! and also ‘! Pno SE ! ... your ‘jam buddy’ does this on their own device, and of course that name comes with the cloning of the track the ‘band leader’ gets once they halt the recording process. Speed-reading tip - the ‘!’ mark means I don’t have to read hard, to see which trax are derived from ‘somewhere else’ in the jam session, just casting your eye down the instrument/tracks, you see the leading exclamation mark, and this makes for fast ID of ‘foreign’ trax - because of course, your jam-buddy may well use exactly the same synth or other instrument, and this is tricky to figure perhaps a week later say?

    Dan, when jamming with a group of four, how do you have your audio for the players to hear setup. Are you hard wired? Really helpful. Ya got a partner who is a keeper in this video.

    Dear Dan and daughter, thanks for demonstrating this. I've always wondered what Jam Session was for! Now I see an immediate use for it.
    I often want to double mic my acoustic guitar recordings, but as I only have USB inputs, I can only record one at a time on my iPad. So I've been recording one mic on one device and the second mic on another, then manually syncing them later once the second track is copied over to the "master" iPad. But now, with this, I could record them both, in sync from the start and both will appear on my main iPad. Have I understood correctly?
    Thanks for sharing!

    • @DanBakerMusic
      @DanBakerMusic  Před 3 lety +1

      I think the sync is not definite with the jam session: your method of recording on two devices and then physically syncing is not only a good way, but also shows your diligence and thought about the problem. If you find that dragging one file is not quite cutting it, you can experiment with the sample delay in the AU extensions within the plugins and EQ on GB, so you can apply tiny delay times to fully fix the issue...

    Thank you for this demonstration! Do you know whether it works for audio such as guitar audio? (I'm assuming midi transmission is easier than sending actual recording of audio)

    • @DanBakerMusic

      I think it’s meant to, but large audio files would take a while to send or receive...

    Is this for long distance remote jamming? Or just several iPads in the same room--sorry, I’m 45 yrs old and super tech-dumb....I have no idea what I’m watching 2 minutes in

    • @DanBakerMusic
      @DanBakerMusic  Před 3 lety

      I’ve never tried long distance jamming but would wager that there’ll be a significant delay!
