  • This is the structure for the right wing of a MiniMax airplane made by me in Denver, Colorado. in 2017. This is my trial attempt to see if a video tells the story better than a lot of photos. I will post more videos as I go along with the build. I already learnt from this first video that while recording I need to pause the camera at important parts of the build, so a viewer has more time to study the critical parts. I will do that from the next video.

Thanks for not ruining a great visual video by putting loud horrible music over it like so many homebuilt airplane videos seem to have. Wing looks great

Thank you for posting this. It will be very helpful in visualizing the project. I am just finished cutting all my Raw Stock and will be beginning actual construction in the next day or two.

Thank you for post a good close up view of a finished wing. It makes the drawings much more clear to see a finished product.

Hey, great looking wing! I've built two MM, the last one was an EROS 1650. Great flying platform. I flew that plane for over 13 years - tried to put 1,000 hrs on it but only got to around 750 or so. Flew it everywhere.
Looking at your wing construction, I remember each and every piece of it! You have great "corner blocking" which will serve you well. I recovered my plane twice - and each time I removed the fabric from the wings, I saw NO failures of any areas. It was just like when I built it. You obviously have put in a lot of time on your build - and it shows.
I retired my EROS (needed a new fuselage as it was never in a hangar in those 13 years. Tied down outside. The Florida heat and humidity damaged my fuselage so I needed a new one. No place to work, so retired the plane.) Might buy a completed MM that I might find on Barnstormers.com. Lots of good deals there.
Can't believe you are building in your kitchen! Talk about dedication. :) I built three planes - two MM's and one Super Cat. The EROS was THE best of all. You will be so pleased when you finish your plane and fly it. Only problem I ever had was all of the paperwork required by the FAA - Inspection, registration, etc. But, it's all worth it. All of those hours of work will "wash away" as you "break ground" on your first flight. The FAA is now really into these "Experimental Amateur Built" planes, and the others. Yours will be an EAB.
I flew a lot of General Aviation planes over the years, but my MM was the most fun. Good luck. N-6395T

Michael, Thanks for taking the time to write a few words. My kids have grown up and moved to their own places, both out of state, so with just me and my wife we have plenty of room in the house where to build. I chose the dining room because floor is vinyl (all other rooms are carpeted.) I started the build in the 2 car garage, but as garage is not heated, (besides being too cold to work from Dec to April), the glue does not cure well during the winter. I do not build when my wife is home or likely to be in the kitchen.. I am retired and build only during the hours when my wife is away at work, and of course I clean up really well after I am done working for the day. I have a large wooden deck behind my home ( 40 ft x 14 ft.) I plan to do the final rigging ( of wings and empennage ) . Having a place to build is a major issue in the build process, and I envy all those guys residing at airparks. My wings before covering, came out at 30 lbs each, so by skimping a bit on the amount of paint to be used, may still come out legal Part 103.

Did you finish your MM? Hope so, and is it flying? I'll try to find a followup on your project. Again, GREAT looking wing.

Great video. Just building my wings. What size wood did you use for front and rear spa and web? The plans I think give the wrong sizes

The spar caps are spruce wood of section 3/4 in x 3/4 in. 12 ft long pieces are hard to get. Mine came with the aircraft kit from Team factory. Spar web is 1/16 in ( 1.5 mm ) birch plywood.

Is this an EROS? I'm teaching a group of 15 kids how to build one, and I can sure use advice. I'm already confused by the bottom right of page 10.

no need to apologize, I thinks it great what your doing. I see a lot of youtubes, were these people are building almost life size airplanes. But they're not for flying inside them, instead they use remote control and fly them from the ground. I don't envy them at. But what your doing, I guess it would be one of my dreams to fly. So I wish you luck.

Are you married? Only an authentic wingnut would have it in the kitchen! And, most wives would disapprove. Like when I tore down a 115 hp outboard in my bedroom, because it is cold in Indiana, and i did not have a garage lol!
