For people like me, we don't have a luthier shop in our town or anywhere nearby. So i have to rely on online purchase to buy one and i really want to play the violin from the bottom of my heart...

I paid ~£1000 for violin 3 years' ago in UK. I purchased it from a reputable shop in London. As a complete beginner I was totally "green" and relied totally on the advice of the shop. 3 years on I realise that the advice I received was good, and that the instrument I was sold was first rate. Since the original purchase, and as I've "grown", I've upgraded the strings and treated myself to a new, more expensive bow. For myself, I would say the only way to purchase a stringed instrument reliably is to do this - go to a reputable shop and take their advice: they have years of experience!

I like how he refers to instruments as our companions.
