    Just want to point out that the gasket in the video that goes under the impeller housing did go in when I saw it laying there on the work area right before I started installing the bolts. since the impeller was in all I did was lift it up and put back down after I put the gasket on. no seal was used on it.

    Good video(s), both of them. By the way, you were correct the 1st time at 24:24. That is an engine, not a motor. Engine = combustion; Motor = electric. ;-)

      Thanks for that. If I called it a motor before I stand corrected.

      Too hot this week and too crowded on the weekend. Temp drops next week so hopefully Monday or Tuesday? When I do will have a test run video👍 Oh, started the backup kicker yesterday with no problems. Using the 50:1 fuel mix I made for the Merc Mark 10 worked great to run it for storage last fall. Started right up. Every year have had to clean the carb to get it running so was pleasantly surprised👍

    Hello from New Zealand thank you so much, appreciate it, I'll try and change the Impeller on my mercury 60hp bigfoot 2004. I'll let you know when it's done..👍👍 cheers Tim

      Thanks for watching King, just remember though there are different setups Mercury has on these for the shift linkages. Some have the connection on the front of the leg with a nut connecting the upper and lower rod. So if the leg just doesn't pull apart like mine look it over to see if there is something else holding it on. Don't force it. If you have any questions just ask. Tim

      Thanks Tim my 60hp bigfoot was slightly different but like your advices help me a lot now it's done and I can't wait to test it out Amazing. I just can't thank you enough for your help 🙏 ❤

      Excellent, you should test it before you go though just in case the water tube going to the tell tale exit is clogged like mine was a year after put my impeller in. I always test my motors here before going to the lake. But understand some folks don't have a yard to test and store their boats somewhere else.

    I think you forgot the gasket between the impeller housing and the metal plate? Great video though, I used this to do mine!

    • @TimsWorkshopTJY
      @TimsWorkshopTJY  Před rokem +1

      I got it in when I saw it laying on the table. I figured anyone who follows the diagram in their service manual or seeing the old one when removing it. Plus the new kit should have one in it too. Glad the video helped. Tim

      @@TimsWorkshopTJY I just got done replacing my impeller base (below the metal plate). It was dry rotted in and was a doozy to get out. Figured while I had her open I better do it, plus my kit came with a new one.
      Using your video to calibrate my fuel injector next! I have the same Merc 60.

      just make sure you put the gasket in that I didn't get on the recording but it did get installed. Thanks for watching and good luck on your impeller job.

    7:14 on video. No gasket put in, video cuts and magically the gasket that was forgotten is now missing from the table of parts. It’s no problem to make a mistake but tell people about it cause if they follow your instructions here it’s not going to work.

    • @TimsWorkshopTJY
      @TimsWorkshopTJY  Před rokem

      The gasket went on before I closed it. You will see where it was laying it disappeared magically. Good catch. I'm sure when folks take theirs apart they will see a gasket goes there

    Hi Tim just done the impeller on my mariner 50hp and having a few issues with the gears engaging.
    My prop is now spinning quite fast in neutral when it never done that earlier.
    I have turned the prop with the outboard off and in neutral and it turns clockwise but not anti clockwise.
    Does that indicate the shift shaft was off when I put the lower unit back on?
    What’s the best way to remedy this ?😊

    • @TimsWorkshopTJY
      @TimsWorkshopTJY  Před 2 měsíci

      Yep, I had to take mine back off too. It's touchy to get it right so test it before reinstalling it to make sure the prop free spins without the drive shaft moving. Then make sure it mates up with the spline adapter if you have that type between the lower and upper drive shafts. if it doesn't mate up turn the flywheel by hand so they do line up or when putting the lower unit on it will pop it into gear. doesn't take much. take out the spark plugs to turn the flywheel allot easier to fine tune the alignment. you should be in business after that. Oh, some props do spin in neutral because of the spin on the water impeller. Fyi

      @@TimsWorkshopTJY my lower end is like yours Tim, if I drop the lower unit can I manually move the shift linkage using my hand to engage neutral? My prop is only turning clockwise at the min indicating the lower unit was installed when in forward gesr

    • @TimsWorkshopTJY
      @TimsWorkshopTJY  Před 2 měsíci

      The drive shaft only turns clockwise no matter which gear you are in. With the lower unit out turn the shift rod till you can turn the prop freely. If in forward or reverse turning the prop by hand you will know it.

    • @GraemeJones1979
      @GraemeJones1979 Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@TimsWorkshopTJY my shift rod is the push pull type not the one you can turn to engage gear. I believe I can pull or push the shift rod up or down to engage neutral F or R when I drop the lower unit

    • @TimsWorkshopTJY
      @TimsWorkshopTJY  Před 2 měsíci

      More like my yamaha outboard then. Just need to find neutral but make sure your control shift is in neutral too. But if you need the shift rod at a specific location to attach the bolt like in gear then match it in that gear below and your console shift so they all match up after the lower unit is installed

    I replaced mine and as I was reinstalling I pulled the lower unit back out and noticed at the top of the mid section where it goes into the splines it looks like a spring has moved into the shifts path. Not sure if I should reinstall and the spring will go back into place

    • @TimsWorkshopTJY
      @TimsWorkshopTJY  Před rokem

    • @aaronhollie2236
      @aaronhollie2236 Před rokem +1

      I have commented before on another video. We have the same motor. The spring is actually apart of the midsection or power head I guess.

      @TimsWorkshopTJY  Před 2 lety

      It's called Super Clean. It's a degreaser but for me what really works good on just greasy metals is brake cleaner. Don't use it on plastic or rubber stay with Super Clean
