  • "Stubbies" or foreshortened prosthetics are a vital tool used for a new amputee to begin the process of walking. Later on, they continue to be a great option for many situations where it is beneficial to have a lower center of gravity and a knee joint would be a counterproductive. We have developed our unique protocol and fitting techniques to optimize the fitting and training for an individual with bilateral above knee limb loss.

    Interesting.
I am a bilateral leg amputee, and I can see using "stubbies" around the house.
I have full size prosthetics that I use when going out, but that also involves a walker.
I want to take a pill that will cause my legs to grow back!
    (That only works in dreams!)

Our protocols are all focused on walking independent of canes, crutches, walkers, etc. We host our annual Bilateral Life Camp workshop at our clinic where we engage in a lot of peer support and demonstrations. If you are interested in more about what we do that is unique to providing better independent mobility you can visit our website at www.dreamteamprosthetics.com

And this is the evidence that stubbies are, by far, very comfortable and after some training, easy to walk with ! They are light, reliable and fairly cheap to obtain and to maintain.

Can you use your both prosthetics exclusively or do you have to use a wheelchair on occasions?

How many bilateral above knee amputees just stick with the stubbies and live as a little person?

Mark, Seth is using our custom designed direct skin fit suction sockets so he utilizes a sock made out of parachute nylon material to slip his leg inside of the socket and then seals it by screwing in a valve to keep air from entering. It is a straight forward process to put them on.

Is there a weight limit my mother is a double amputee and she weighs 271?

Yes, prosthetics are weight rated and the lower the overall body weight, the more efficient and functional the person can be.
