- Venezuela's economy is emerging from a deep recession, after years of political upheaval and US sanctions.
Poverty has fallen 15 percent to 50.5 percent in the past year, though income equality continues to widen.
And President Nicolas Maduro is capitalising on the situation to strengthen his grip on power.
Al Jazeera’s Alessandro Rampietti reports from Caracas, Venezuela.

I hope the people can keep recovering.
I hope so too.
Sanctions are being lifted on the oil. With the way Russia are messing about Venezuela has a big opportunity to do REALLY well in the coming years.
educate yourself on nato before you comment on Russia
Russia dominates the air. Russia could tear them apart but they don't want to. Maybe it's the way Biden is messed about
Im so happy for venezuela
Best of luck Venezuela 🇻🇪 from India. You will come out well❤❤
We supported Venezuealan and thier serveignity
Thank you for your support.👍
So why are there people leaving and coming to America?
Exactly! All the ones who don't work are coming to the U.S.
Very happy for Venezuela 🇻🇪 people's 👏👏 I have seen how hard life they were surving. i hope it recover soon 💯 Best wishes from an Indian 🇮🇳

Sitting on the largest oil reserves while people are in poverty.
That actually takes effort.
@@dr0117 every one educate your own people and build your own infrastructure. Stop calling us and take care of your own neighborhood.
How is it that once engineers or farmers left most countries fall apart.
Give the Saudis a call and let them give advice. They own their stuff and didn't steal it.
(Zimbabwe is doing well too)
@@CHMichael Yep the US is one of the world's richest countries yet it has the largest homeless and incarcerated populations on Earth.
Shame on the US.
They got money for wars and ruining other people's lives but 0 dollars to help their own.
@@ernestkhalimov1007 you must be from somewhere else.
The US spending 1.2 trillion on defense is misguided but compared to social spending including state budgets it's really not that bad.
I wish we would behave more like Switzerland..... still better than 95% of all other countries.
That's great hearing some hope when they were so devastated for years.
Same.
Dolarisation of Venezuela will give them some small window of reprieve there is need to mantain the local currency
Venezuela has the capacity to bounce back
Hyperinflation takes time to recover a lot of time I take every news about this with a grain of salt because the US is partially lifting sanctioned is because Biden wants to save his approval rating
Reasons aren't important. Actions are.
Keep the black gold glowing.
*Venezuela🇻🇪 have border disputes with Guyana.*
make border agreement & peace!
If people only know how different Cuba and Venezuela would be with out US sanctions and blockades..
I give you Cuba because they are half surrounded by the US and US influences. -- I bet they could do very well. Exporting rum and cigars - tourist. Havana club with pineapple j - delicious.
Venezuela not so much. They completely dropped the ball on making sure they had people to run their industry.
Cuba has things to offer - what can Venezuela offer out of their own capabilities?
Cuba and Venezuela can't seize property and then complain they are being treated unfairly.
Blockade?? Please sir, please.
THEY are the ones that have it on their own people.
From the US side, the " blockade " doesn't include personal items nor food.
Rafters, new arrivals, family members etc. Listen to what they say and hop off that bandwagon.
@@CHMichael Just how ignorant are you? Are you aware Venezuela has the largest prevent oil reserves in the world. Over 304 billion barrels to be precise. So what exactly do you mean by what can Venezuela over out of their capabilities? In all of your life. Have you ever seen a product made from any middle eastern country? Yet all these oil rich monarchies like Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates are filthy rich from oil money. Please educate yourself. Venezuela would today be the second wealthiest nation in south America without illegal US sanctions .
@@baroneleve1196 all that oil in the ground and no one smart enough to get it out. - I guess you read only half of my comment.
The Saudis are a good example of how to own your oil industry.
Can't deliver oil that's in the ground.
the problem is not maduro, the problem is sanctions
Theres sanctions because of maduro 😂🤡
i agree with you, where you from ?
That’s the kind of sh!t I used to say when I was a dumb socialist commie idiot
El pueblo aguantando hambre es la clase de economía desarrollada en Venezuela.
Take it easy something would work out
Hope Venezuela could sell more oil to the USA so the farmers could get better price for their farms and we the ,customers, could get lower price. I have a cousin, he's a farmer, told me that the price of diesel fuel is so costly.
i hope usa get oil if pay the price for the damage what the sancions created..

What ever it takes to ease the pressure on your self you should it's only one you lol😮
la interpol acaba de girar orden de arresto para nicolas maduro ya que se encuentra en argentina
Stay in Valenzuela
If President maduro has decided to establish close ties with USA/canada, is a late but very much right decision in favour of the people, country and the continent.
Don't let any one to disturb this peaceful continent.
In another step he should move to unite the people of the venezuela to end every type political crisis for maintaining peace in future and to project the venezuela in the list of powerful countries of the world.
Where do i think close ties with USA/ canada are very much in favour of almost all the small and big countries of this continent.
It is proud for the people of this continent that the big power of this world is from their continent.
The comments are hilarious here. There’s no recovery. I just came back from Venezuela and the people are hurting. This is state propaganda 😂

Yes and how convenient for the US to lift sanctions so quick!
@@beckyberringer3685 are you kidding, not worthy? Your border's are open !
Late, but very much right decision of moduro to set close ties with USA.
Maduro needs to tell his people to stay home and stop crossing the US southern border illegally! We have our own citizens to care for.
You need to tell Biden and the Pentagon to stop burning billions and fix your homeless and healthcare problem
The USA created sanctions for years. So the USA deserves the extra expenses. Instead of being angry at Maduro be angry at US politicians who pulled this charade which harmed so many people, including the US.
Why not try to kick him have a new president
Maduro is friends with Lula del Silva and is a special guest for Lula's inauguration day!
Lula del Silva has opened the money tap to Maduro.
