  • This video goes over the process we followed to install the standard brake lines, parking brake lines, and fuel line. All of the lines installed are stainless steel to prevent rusting and help them stand out when looking under the car. The brake booster mounted easily and running the lines was not difficult. The general shape of the lines fit with the sections of the frame and body that they mounted to, but I did have to do some bending and shaping with a bending tool to get them just right and correctly installed in the mounting clips.

    Great work! I removed my brake lines last year and couldn't remember the mounting points for my new pre-bent stainless line. One day I'll remember to take pictures of everything as it's removed. You saved me a lot of time and frustration. Thanks

    Great job! Excellent work on restoring the Nova like new to enjoy it for many decades to come. I love seeing all old muscle cars restored! Videos like this are helpful to those of us working on our Nova's. Sometimes we see small details as you pan by and I saw one here and was like "Oh that's where that goes! Ha ha. Thank you for taking the time to document what you are doing. I really like the frame rough texture paint you used. I am getting close to that point right now on my '68 Chevy II SS. What type and brand did you use? Thanks

      Thank you for your comment and I'm glad you are enjoying the videos! For the frame, we took it to a local powder coat shop and they did a textured satin black powder coat. The company we used was Partin Powder Coating in Dallas, GA. We had quite a few of the "support" related pieces (frame, radiator support, a-arms, etc) powder coated to help ensure longevity of the coating.

      Thanks for the compliment! I appreciate it! Camaros would probably be similar to Novas since the two vehicles have a lot of other similarities.

    Great video. I'm in the process of putting new lines on my 71 too. Question. In the back of the back seat under the car, there are 4 lines coming out that I guess runs from the charcoal canister. My new tank has one connection. What are those lines used for and which one is used for my fuel tank line?

      Glad you liked the video! We don’t have a charcoal canister for our Nova and there wasn’t one on it originally so I don’t have a reference for you. What I do know is that our fuel line from the tank comes out of the tank on the passenger side, runs up the on-body frame and the goes across to the drivers side by running behind the back seat area from passenger to driver side. I’m not sure if that helps you locate the line you are looking for.

    What did you paint the frame and undercarriage with .

    • @SouthpawGarage
      @SouthpawGarage  Před 2 lety

      The frame is coated with a textured powder coat. The undercarriage was primered and then painted with a sealant Eastwood Rust Encapsulator Plus) to prevent future rust.

      Was your car originally disc brake ? Mines drum but switching over to disc in front.

    • @SouthpawGarage
      @SouthpawGarage  Před 2 lety

      Car was originally disc brakes in front and drum in rear. We just put an entirely new brake kit on the car (new disc brakes, new spindles, new calipers, new brake lines, new drum brakes, new brake booster, etc)

      My brackets for the brake hose is on the side of the frame not the top .I guess since it was originally a drum brake.May buy an assembly manual .

      @rustdawg7364 Před 2 lety

      the lines you put on were for the conversion kit for front drum brake car .Im deciding on right stuff or inline tube.

      Still working on it. We had a couple of things that have put us behind schedule. You can check out my Nova playlist for more videos about the project.
