      I was in Melbourne recently as well, to film Metro Tunnel. Look out for that in April. I spent a very enjoyable hour wondering around Southern Cross Station, watching loco hauled regional trains departing (it was the evening peak). I enjoyed the classic diesel smell that you don't get Sydney, and did notice the long canopies as well. It took me a little while to find the dual gauge tracks. Yes, it would have been nice to have the full roof canopies at Central (and elsewhere in Sydney), not so much for the rain, but more for the strong sun in the summer.

And trains to Cronulla & Waterfall are every 15 mins. And you sometimes get 4 carriage trains (in peak hour) on Illawarra line. Every train on Illawarra line to Central & Central to Illawarra should be 8 carriages.

    Hi Paul, interesting video. Will the station actually be split names with Chalmers Street and Central? If so, where exactly will be the location where the name will change. We are doing the opposite here in Melbourne, with out new planned rail line with a second Burwood station being built near Deakin University. The other Burwood railway station is further west on the Camberwell to Alamein train line. The two Burwood stations will be completely separate. Time will tell how that progresses. Maybe one Burwood station will have a name change as time passes!! Incidentally, how far are the north and south Central Walk escalators from each other? Interesting seeing Central Walk, which reminds me a bit of the walkway that we used to have at Spencer Street Station. However, this was all demolished when they rebuilt it all as Southern Cross Station. Will they be renumbering any of the platforms later, due to platform 15 now being gone? Which train lines used platform 15, when it existed? Just thinking, they more likely have spare seats and platform signs from platform 15, which they could now re-use on other platforms. Anyway, all the very best. Rob.

    • @TransportVlog
      @TransportVlog Před rokem

      Thanks Rob, the light rail stop for the L2 & L3 is called Central Chalmers Street to differentiate it from the L1 stop which is called Central, Grand Concourse. However, the train station is still called Central, and the new Chalmers Street entrance will be another way into Central Station. Yes two Burwood Stations would be confusing! Let's hope they change that! I would say the north and south escalators are about 50 metres apart at the platforms. It's about 3 carriages of a Waratah Train. No plans to renumber the platforms. It's too difficult these days, as the platform numbers are programmed into many different computer systems! Same scenario as Platform 11 at Flinders Street. Platform 15 was rarely used, and was primarily for stabling trains only. The platform signs have been reused, but the seats are new. Glad you enjoyed this video. I'm working on a Melbourne Metro Tunnel video at the moment, which I'm sure you'll love. Hope to release that later this month.

    Hey Paul! Are you gonna make a video of this area, with any pans of demolition of the non child proof building? Would love to see an update, apprently its completley open now? No clue.

      I've got a couple of Central Station videos coming up. The first (probably on Sunday) will cover the new Chalmers Street entrance, which was damaged by the Randle Street fire. This will then be followed by a deep dive into the newly opened north-south concourse. I'm not sure which building you're referring to (the non child proof one). Maybe you can elaborate on that?

      @@TransportVlog I was referring to the Randle street one, apparently that wedged building that was wedged on Randle street and lane and what was damaged I noticed was a little bit of the brick work on the entrance and the whole HVAC was pummeled.

    Hey Paul
    I went to central today..
    There are no tactile tiles around support pillars garbage bins seats or hydrants.
    An unacceptable over-site In My Opinion !
    The glass panels for the skylights in the platform do not sit flush to the metal it is set into-it is a trip hazard.

    Transport Vlog, they will start testing the metros on the 21st of April

    • @TransportVlog
      @TransportVlog Před rokem +2

      Yes someone else mentioned that to me. They still need to complete the overhead wiring within the Marrickville Dive Site and within Sydenham Station, before testing can start. I guess that can be done in 3 weeks!

    My only criticism is that they seem to have made a stylistic mess of the different elements...it doesnt all hang together. The best stations are clean and uniform and readable.
